Array Sensing Using Electromagnetic Method for Detection of Smelting in Submerged Arc Furnaces

  • In this paper, we propose an array sensing detection method for smelting of submerged arc furnaces (SAF) based on electromagnetic radiation. AC magnetic field generated by electrode currents and molten currents in the furnace is reflected outside of the furnace. According to the spatial distribution of electromagnetic field a radiation model of SAF is built. We design a 3D magnetic field sensing array system in order to collect the magnetic field information. Through the collected information, the current distribution characteristics of SAF are described and the key parameters of smelting are obtained. Theoretical simulation and field test show that the curves acquired by the sensing array can accurately reflect the information of the relative displacement when the relative displacement between the array and electrode is 10 cm. Compared with the detection method of 3D single point, the proposed array sensing method of magnetic field obtains better results in terms of real-time and accuracy, and has good practical value for industrial measurement.

  • 가볍고 강도가 높은 이유로 부품의 경량화가 요구되는 분야에 급속하게 이용되고 있는 알루미늄의 아크용접에 관한 연구로써, 기존 알루미늄의 아크용접 방법-TIG, MIG-에 비하여 속도가 빠르고, 보다 얇은 박판에 용접이 가능한 용접 방식에 대한 연구 결과이다. 용접전류를 펄스 형태의 인가하여 줌으로써 1펄스 1용적이행이 가능하였고, 용접전류의 극성을 주기적으로 교번하여 용적의 입열량 차이를 이용하여 용입의 깊이를 제어하는 알고리즘을 적용하였고 그 상관관계를 증명하였다. 본 연구에서는 DSP 320C32를 이용한 풀 디지탈 제어방식의 10kw 펄스MIG용 접전원장치를 제작하였고, 120cm/분의 용접속도로 1.2mm의 알루미늄 박판에 극성비 0∼40%의 변화한 용접 결과에 대하여 용접외관 및 단면에 대한 결과를 검토하였다.

  • According to the industrial development welding technology is necessitated to develop in the direction of full automation, high efficiency, energy saving, and full safety. In this study, thus, a simple holder ampere controller for welding systems is developed and applied to arc welders and its capability is examined and tested. The results are as follows: 1. It has a simple structure, since the primary AC power for the welder can be directly control led using a triac. 2. It can control the electric power strength in several steps as well as on and off easily, since a small-sized variable resistance is installed in the small controller on the welding holder. 3. In real field applications a welding system with this controller increases the working efficiency greatly compare to the conventional arc welders without the system, because the controller can control the ampere onsite far from the main power supply. 4. It can reduce the probability of the electrical mishap due to electrical leakage, since the electricity is disconnected as soon as the switch is off or welding person's hand is taken off from the welder after the work or for rest. 5. It can control the welding depth in the beginning and do the crater treatment well in the ending of welding, since it always supplies the relevent amount of electrical current. Therefore, it can improve the mechanical properties of the welding zone.

Validation of Some Protection Guidelines for Neighboring Pipelines against Fault Currents from Power Transmission Tower

  • Fault current can be discharged from power transmission tower due to lightning or inadvertent contact of crane, etc. Pipelines in proximity to either the source of the ground fault or the substation grounding grid may provide convenient conductive path for the fault current to travel. Inappropriate measures to the neighboring pipelines against the fault current may cause severe damages to the pipes such as coating breakdown, arc burn, puncture, loss in wall thickness, or brittle heat-affected zone. Like inductive and conductive AC coupling, steadily induced fault current right after the coating breakdown can lead to corrosion of the pipeline. In this work, some protection guidelines against fault currents used in the field have been validated through the simulation and analytical method.

  • If the ambient temperature rises in AC PDP, some of the discharged cells arc turned off because of the addressing failure. Particularly, the addressing failure at the last scan line is more serious than at the first scan line. The failure is accompanied with delay of the address discharge and reduction of total charge involved. In order to compensate this kind of misfiling, the progressively increasing address voltage waveform is used instead of constant one. In this method, we found that the total charge and address time at the last scan line are similar to those of the first line. As a result, we can have stable discharge without misfiring even at the high ambient temperature.

고효율 AC PDP용 MgO 보호막 형성을 위한 중성빔 보조 증착 장비에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Equipment of Neutral Beam Assisted Deposition for MgO Protective Layer of High Efficient AC PDP)

  • The MgO protective layer plays an important role in plasma display panels (PDPs). Our previous work demonstrated that the properties of MgO thin film could be improved, which were deposited by ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD). However arc discharge always occurs during the IBAD process. To avoid this problem, oxygen neutral beam assisted deposition (NBAD) is used to deposit MgO thin films in this paper. The energy of the oxygen neutral beam was used as the parameter to control the deposition. The experimental results showed that the oxygen neutral beam energy was effective in determining in F/$F^+$ centers, crystal orientation, surface morphology of the MgO thin film, and the discharge characteristics of AC PDP. The lowest firing voltage $(V_f)$ and the highest secondary electron emission coefficient $(\gamma)$ were obtained when the neutral beam energy was 300 eV.

  • 본 논문은 5KW급의 SOFC와 저전압 배터리를 복합전원으로 하는 10KW급 독립형 연료전지발전시스템의 전력변환장치의 개발에 관한 것이다. 이를 위한 전격변환장치는 연료전지로부터의 저전압을 상승시키기 위한 고주파 DC-DC 컨버터 및 이를 안정된 교류전원으로 변환하기 위한 DC-AC 인버터 그리고 저전압 배터리를 충$.$방전하기 위한 양방향 DC-DC 컨버터로 구성된다. 미국 에너지부 및 IEEE가 주최한 "2003 International Future Energy Challenge Competition"에서 제시한 90%이상의 효율과 $40/KW 이하의 양산가등의 사양을 목표로 개발된 본 전력변환장치에 대한 토폴로지, 주요 부품의 설계 및 제어방식에 관하여 기술하고 실험결과를 제시한다.험결과를 제시한다.

AC PDP의 MgO 결정방향성과 증착조건간의 상관관계에 관한 연구 (The study of the relationships between the MgO crystal orientation and the conditions of deposition on AC-PDP)

  • There arc several important issues in AC PDP researches such as cost reduction, reliability, and good image quality. The properties of MgO layer is thought to be one of the most important (actors that affects the panel reliability through the firing voltage variation. The MgO thin film mainly has (111), (200) and (220) crystal orientation. It is reported that (111)-oriented film helps decreasing the discharge voltage, and (200)-oriented film improves the misfiring on high temperature and the image sticking. In this study, we investigated the relations between the crystal orientation and e-beam evaporation process parameters such asdeposition rate, temperature of substrate, and distance between the target(MgO tablet) and the substrate.

  • A simple-structured thermal plasma generator for waste gas treatment has been studied. The thermal plasma technology applied to waste treatment has undoubtedly gained high importance owing to its outstanding properties such as flexibility, compact reactor, and clean treatment. Moreover, the thermal plasma generated by ac power has some additional advantages such as simple electrode system and easy maintenance. A prototype 200kW class plasma generator with specifications of 10-30m/sec gas velocity and 3000-5000K temperature on the center just outside of the nozzle has been designed and tested. Case studies on heat transfer, heat flow, velocity distribution, and temperature distribution using a commercial simulation package show lots of flexibility in design. The experimental results from theprototype generator show that the ac thermal plasma is easily controlled by working gas flow once it is ignited. A stabilization condition is discussed with the data from monitoring arc voltage drops with respect to gas flow rate during the test.

  • As a process to improve the insulation performance of VIs (Vacuum Interrupters), AC voltage conditioning is generally adopted by many manufacturers. Although the insulation performance is enhanced easily with AC Voltage conditioning, it has limitations when high recovery voltage is required due to high voltage rate or capacitive current switching. In particular, impurities such as oxides segregated on the electrode surface can be removed not by the energy level of the voltage conditioning but by the higher energy level achieved by the current conditioning process In this article, the current conditioning was carried out in various conditions and its validity was examined. The current conditioning was processed by changing the amplitude of applied current, arc time, the number of tests, and frequency. The insulation performance and the status of contact surface were checked as well. We concluded that as the applied charge quantity and the conditioning coverage area increase, the conditioning effect is much higher.
