To operate organic light emitting device (OLED) with alternating current (AC) power source without AC/DC(direct current) converter, we fabricated the fluorescent OLED and measured the emission characteristics with AC and DC. The OLED operated by AC showed higher maximum current efficiency of 8.2 cd/A and maximum power efficiency of 8.3 lm/W. But current efficiency and power efficiency of AC driven OLED showed worse than DC driven OLED at high voltage above 10 V. This result can be explained by the peak voltage of AC was $\sqrt{2}$ times than DC, In case of low driving voltage the emission characteristics were improved by the peak voltage of AC, but in case of high driving voltage the emission efficiencies were decreased by the roll off phenomena. Finally, serial OLED arrays using twelve OLEDs driven by AC 110 V showed average voltage of 9.17 V, voltage uniformity of 99.0%, average luminance of $1,175cd/m^2$, luminance uniformity of 94.4%.
An alternating current (AC) corrosion on buried pipeline has been studied using coupon and ER probe. Coupons and ER probes were applied to the sites from high value of AC voltage to low value based on the survey of AC voltages on buried gas transmission pipeline over the country. Parameters such as AC current density of coupon, AC voltage, cathodic protection potential, soil resistivity and frequency were monitored continually. Corrosion induced by AC was observed even under cathodically protected condition that met cathodic protection criterion (; below -850 mV vs. CSE). Corrosion rate was affected mainly not by AC voltage but by both of frequency and AC current density. An experimental corrosion rate relation could be obtained according to effective AC current density, in which AC corrosion rate increased linearly with effective AC current density, and its slope was 0.619 in coupon method and 0.885 in ER probes.

This paper deals with harmonic components of the voltage on high temperature superconducting wire carrying an alternating current. HTS wire is used to manufacture superconducting power applications carrying an alternating current. Typically, international standard, IEC 61788-3 is used for critical current measurement. Thus, it is not ideal that critical current criteria in dc are adapted to superconducting power devices to decide the operating current of the devices. In this paper, we confirmed odd harmonic voltage on HTS wires carrying an AC. The ratio between harmonic components and fundamental component can be significant clues to decide the critical current criteria for HTS wire and its power applications in AC circumstance.

In this paper, silicon solar cells are analyzed regarding power conversion efficiency by changed capacitance in the depletion region. For the capacitance control in the depletion region of silicon solar cell was applied for 10, 20, 40, 80, 160 and 320 Hz frequency band character and alternating current(AC) voltage with square wave of 0.2~1.4 V. Academically, symmetry formation of positive and negative change of the p-n junction is similar to the physical effect of capacitance. According to the experiment result, because input of square wave with alternating current(AC) voltage could be observed to changed capacitance effect by indirectly method through non-linear power conversion (Voltage-Current) output. In addition, when input alternating current(AC) voltage in the silicon solar cell, changed capacitance of depletion region with the forward bias condition and reverse bias condition gave a direct effect to the charge mobility.
Direct current corrosion have being investigated by lots of scientists but Alternating current corrosion was ignored because the corrosion rate by AC was very small. Recently however, AC corrosion accidents have been reported in many other countries. So the study of AC corrosion is to be necessary in these days. In this paper, several experiments which intentionally imposed the AC or DC to the specimens also imposed AC and DC at the same time was carried out in the laboratory to examine the AC corrosion characteristics and in addition applied the same way in the field. Moreover, while the field investigations of the abnormal corrosion failures. It was the AC that caused one of corrosion failures.
This paper proposes a mathematical model that can calculate the luminescence characteristics driven by alternating current (AC) power using the current-voltage-luminance (I-V-L) properties of organic light emitting devices (OLED) driven by direct current power. Fluorescent OLEDs are manufactured to verify the model, and I-V-L characteristics driven by DC and AC are measured. The current efficiency of DC driven OLED can be divided into three sections. Region 1 is a section where the recombination efficiency increases as the carrier reaches the emission layer in proportion to the increase of the DC voltage. Region 2 is a section in which the maximum luminous efficiency is stably maintained. Region 3 is a section where the luminous efficiency decreases due to excess carriers. Therefore, the fitting equation is derived by dividing the current density and luminance of the DC driven OLED into three regions, and the current density and luminance of the AC driven OLED are calculated from the fitting equation. As a result, the measured and calculated values of the AC driving I-V-L characteristics show deviations of 4.7% for current density, 2.9 % for luminance, and 1.9 % for luminous efficiency.
To study the characteristics of AC driven OLED, we fabricated the fluorescent OLEDs and analyzed the electroluminescence characteristics of OLEDs with AC negative voltage. The luminance and the current density of the OLED decreased, and the number and size of the dark spots increased in proportion to the duration time and level of the applied AC negative voltage. The current efficiency of the OLED was improved when high AC negative voltage was applied within a short time. When the AC negative voltage of 10 V was applied for 1 minute, the efficiency was improved by 12.4%. Also, the degradation of luminance and current efficiency due to the duration of light emission was improved in the case of OLED applied for 1 minute with 10 V AC negative voltage. These are expected as a result of the improvement of the leakage current characteristics by eliminating the short-circuit region formed by the defect of the OLED at the AC negative high voltage. As a result, the continuous application of AC negative voltage reduced the luminance and the current density of OLED, but the temporary application of AC negative voltage with the proper time and voltage could improve the efficiency and lifetime of OLED.
This paper describes characteristics of the developed current sensor by means of two identically wound magnetic cores forming a clamp like for measurement of a low DC, or AC current. This sensor consists of peak value detectors, a sensor of an electrically compensated current transformer type, a reference alternating voltage, Precision measuring circuits to measure the output signals of sensor with harmonics, and can be measured up to 2 A at DC, or AC current. The current sensor shows a measurement accuracy of less than 0.3% in the frequency range 40 Hz - 10 HBz. The resolution and sensitivity of the sensor were evaluated 0.1 mA and 10 mV/mA, respectively.
This paper presents the characteristics of leakage currents flowing through zinc oxide (ZnO) surge arrester elements under the combined direct-current (DC) and 60 Hz alternating-current (AC) voltages. The current-voltage characteristic curves (I-V curves) of the commercial ZnO surge arrester elements were obtained as a function of the voltage ratio a. At constant peak value of the combined DC and AC voltage, the resistive leakage current of the ZnO blocks was significantly increased as the voltage ratio $\alpha$ increased. The I-V curves under the combined DC and AC voltages were placed between the pure DC and AC characteristics, and the cross-over phenomenon in both the I-V curves and R-V curves was observed at the low current region. The ZnO power dissipation for DC voltages was less than that for AC voltage in the pre-breakdown region and reversed at higher voltages.
