  • This study is to analyze the historical developments of references on cataloging rules. References is named cross reference on The Panizzi' and Jewett' Report and defined at Rules for a Dictionary Catalog by Charles A. Cutter. References is developed to “see reference”, “see-also reference”, “name-title reference”, and “explanatory reference” on AACR2. References have traditionally been regarded as syndetic devices, making it possible to retrieve and connect related works. Conclusionally, it functions as a tool which directly connect all the works related but in different formats of a same author name and a same title name. In online catalogues, it means that the role and function of references have increasingly become extended to be very important.

  • Due to rapid internet supply and the increase of electronic resources including network resources, there has been a sudden change in cataloguing fields. To deal with rapid changes, IFLA revised cataloguing rules for electronic and continuing resources; ISBD(ER) and ISBD(CR). This study is to analyze activities of IFLA and ISBD(CR), expecially in regards with concepts of continuing resources, new categories of bibliographic materials, major or minor changes in title proper, basis of the description, material specific area, definition of a new terminologies, changes in AACR2R 2002 revision and MARC 21 coding, and issues concerned with revision of KCR 4 and KORMARC.

  • For an efficient access to Internet resources, these resources need to be organized systematically for accessibility. and their cataloging technique has been developing. Consequently, after I compared and analyzed OCLC manual applying AACR2 techniques and procedures, with Dublin core metadata used for cataloging Internet resources, I examined their mapping into MARC format. Dublin core metadata elements should be transformed to MARC format fields. In methodology of integration into different types of the metadata, an update of MARC format and its new field should be provided. Especially, Internet resources cataloging experts familiar with these technology will be really wanted nowadays.

  • This paper discussed which of the three basic entries of serials that changed their titles-earliest, latest, or successive entry cataloging-is the most efficient, informative, and economical in a manual and an online environment. The results of the study are as follow: 1. Earliest entry cataloging or as an alternative, successive entry cataloging advocated by Cutter in 1976 was replaced in ALA Cataloging Rules by latest entry cataloging and with AACR1 and AACR2, latest entry cataloging was replaced by successive entry cataloging again. 2. Entry method of serial cataloging should be determined in consideration of goals of catalog, efficiency of catalog retrieval, theoretical and practical standpoint of entry methods, average cataloging time and cost, the state of adaption. 3. In a card catalog environment, if the numbering and class number of the serial that title proper changed into initials itself continue and the title history must not be too complicated, the serial is desirable to entry under the latest title. Except for above case, successive entry cataloging enables serials to be more quickly and economically made available to users than with either earliest or latest entry cataloging. 4. In an automated catalog environment, successive entry cataloging has more potential of satisfying and impairs the efficiency of both accessing and processing a library's serials collection. However, when initial cataloging by MARC format is done, careful screen design and complex programming will be needed. And subfield containing the local record number should be added to the programming means to link the various records together, i.e., 780 (preceding title) and 785 (succeeding title) fields for all related titles.

  • Due to rapid internet supply, the increase of electronic resources including network resources, and the appearance of metadate, there has been a sudden change in cataloguing fields. To deal with rapid changes, the related organizations such as IFLA are organizing the research team and revising rules. This study analyzes current trend of cataloguing digital resources, considering recent matters in regards with the revision of ISBD(ER), AACR2R 2002 edition, MARC 21, Dubin Core, KCR4 etc. This research discusses also the questions of how digital resources are organized; automatic indexing, matadata, and MARC format.

  • The Joint Steering Committee represented final draft of RDA that can be replaced for AACR3 on November third in 2008. RDA is aiming at standard of international cataloging rules fo the purpose of providing the bibliographic description and the access point of all media, and when it will be realized, KCR4 4th edtion have to revised to following up it. This study analyzes both cataloging rules of RDA and KCR4 in each area of KCR 4th edition. As a result, it present the points to take into consideration as revising KCR4.

  • This study is to seek to apply resource types of RDA to KCR4. It is difficult to choose appropriate term and to embody FRBR model because GMD of KCR4 is the mixture of content-based vocabularies and carrier-based vocabularies. SMD is to need to reflect the current technological terms. Resource type of RDA was already developed to overcome limitation of AACR2's GMD, and would affect the world cataloging environment, therefore it is need to apply resource type of RDA to Korean cataloging rule. For this study, case study and survey were used. In case study, it was to scan all GMD term for one university library to build by programming and to grape librarian and users' potential need. In the survey by cataloging librarian, it was to figure out the current description of resource type in university library and to test RDA resource type. As a result, it was needed to revise the vocabulary to the obvious and user-understandable list. Also it was different in correction rate in RDA testing by resource type. Based on the case study and the survey, RDA resource type was applied to KCR4 resource list by adding term such as computer game in content type, and by inserting terms such as DVD, CD-ROM, Blu-Ray, computer file in carrier type. It also applied RDA description method and display means to KCR4. This study would apply RDA resource type to KCR4 and contribute to revise KCR4 resource type.

  • This study make comparative analysis of the cataloging rules on the edition area included in the KCR4, NCR(2001), AACR2R, ISBD(M), and ISBD(ER). There is a delicate difference between the cataloging rules. The main features on the edition are as the follows. (1) In the bibliography description the concept of the edition is a general application. That is to say, the edition construct the new edition and the impression. The former comes the purview of a change content, the size, and a printing type. The latter publish newly- (2) The requisite for description of the edition area consists of a edition statement, statements of responsibility relating to the edition, additional edition statement, and statements of responsibility following an additional edition statement. Voluntary rules transcribe the parallel edition statement. (3) In the case of the electronic materials special versions on content and Auction indicates as the edition, but the environment of software does not indicate as it. (4) Parallel statement of responsibility relating to the edition, parallel additional edition statements, and parallel statements of responsibility following an additional edition statement are voluntary rules or not transcribed in the edition area.

  • Remotely accessible information resources are greatly increasing in number and importance, but thee are stored in different systems and in different formats all over the world. For this reason, the bibliographic control must be established for the network information resources. This paper intends to describe the characteristics of remote electronic journal, to review some projects and issues related to the cataloging of remote electronic journal, expecially field 856(electronic locatio and access) in the USMARC, and to analyze AACR2R(chapter 9,12), ISBED(ER), OCLC manual, and, CCM Module 31.
