  • Paper electrophoretic separation of octahedrally bonded (Ruc $l_{6}$ )$^{3-}$ has been carried out by using the specially designed migration apparatus. The supporting electrolyte solutions are as follows: 0.1M-HCl $O_4$, 0.05 M-HCl+0.09M-KCl, 0.1M-HCl, 5$\times$10$^{-3}$ M-NTA, 0.01M-HCl, 0.01M-HCl $O_4$, 0.01M-citric acid, 0.01M-K $H_2$P $O_4$+0.01M-N $a_2$HP $O_4$, 0.05M-borax, 0.025M-N $a_2$C $O_3$+0.025M-NaHC $O_3$, 0.01M-N $a_3$P $O_4$, 0.01M-NaOH and 0.1 M-NaOH. The (Ruc $l_{6}$ )$^{3-}$ appears in 2 to 4 peaks and is found in several chemical species such as (RuCl ($H_2O$)$_{5}$ )$^{2+}$, cis and trans (RuC $l_2$($H_2O$)$_4$)$^{1+}$, (RuC $l_3$($H_2O$)$_3$)$^{0}$ , (RuC $l_4$($H_2O$)$_2$)$^{1-}$, (RuC $l_{5}$ ($H_2O$))$^{2-}$ and (RuC $l_{6}$ )$^{3-}$. The retention value has been found to be highest in the 0.025M-N $a_2$C $O_3$+0.025M-NaHC $O_3$ electrolyte solution.n.

  • Cutting power estimation can be used to select appropriate actuators in the design process of machine tools. Therefore, accurate estimation of cutting power is an important part of the design process. In this study, pipe cutting power is first calculated theoretically using the slotting cutting power equation and then verified experimentally. In this case, a pipe cutting machine is used to cut two pipes made of different materials. Power consumptions in the motor during pipe cutting are measured by using the embedded software, Labview, and NI hardware. The slotting cutting power equation can thus be confirmed easily comparing theoretically calculated cutting powers with experimentally measured cutting powers. The pipe materials used in this study are SUS304 and AL6N01. The specific cutting power of AL6N01 material is proposed through our cutting experiment. As a result, this cutting power can be used to design machining tools for AL6N01 material.

A Study on the Utilization of Dietary [15N]urea in Cecal Ligated Chickens (맹장 결찰계(Cecal-ligated Chicken)를 이용한 [15N]urea의 이용성에 관한 연구)

  • The effect of cecal ligation on the utilization of dietary [15N]urea in chickens fed 5 % protein diet plus urea were investigated. Nitrogen balance and utilization tended (P<0.01) to increase by cecal ligation. Total uric acid excretion was significantly decrease by (P<0.01) cecal ligation in chickens from origin of diet and urea (P<0.01). Excretion of ammonia was increased in chickens from origin of diet, where as it decreased in chickens an urea diet (P<0.01). Amount of urea nitrogen excretion from origin of urea was significantly decrease (P<0.01) by cecal ligation, but cecal ligated chicken fed 5% protein diet with urea showed 51.6% urea utilization. Result obtained in present study indicates that ceca is having beneficial role for urea utilization in chicken fed protein deficient diets, but ceca do not always positive role for nitrogen utilization.

Effect of Niacin Supplementation on Rumen Metabolites in Murrah Buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis)

  • An experiment was conducted on 3 male rumen fistulated adult buffaloes fed on wheaten straw and concentrate mixture in a Latin square design to study the impact of niacin supplementation on rumen metabolites. Three animals were fed wheaten straw+concentrate mixture (group I, control), wheaten straw+concentrate mixture+100 ppm niacin (group II), and wheaten straw +concentrate mixture+200 ppm niacin (group III). After 21 days feeding, rumen liquor was drawn for 3 consecutive days at different time intervals (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 h) to study the various rumen metabolites i.e., rumen pH, ammonia-N, total-N, trichloroacetic acid precipitable-N, non-protein nitrogen, total volatile fatty acids, their fractions and number of protozoa. Mean pH values in strained rumen liquor (SRL) of animals in 3 groups were 6.64, 6.71 and 6.67, indicating no statistically significant difference. Results revealed a significant (p<0.01) increase in TVFA concentration among the supplemented groups (group II and III) in comparison to control group. Mean TVFA concentration (meq/dl) was 9.75, 10.97 and 11.44 in 3 groups respectively. The highest concentration of TVFA was observed at 4 h and minimum at 0 h in all the 3 groups. The percentage of acetic, propionic, butyric and isobutyric acid was statistically similar among the three groups. The mean ammonia-N concentration (mg/dl SRL) was significantly (p<0.01) lower in group II (16.38) and group III (15.42) than group I (18.14). Ammonia-N concentration was higher (p<0.01) at 4 h as compared to all the time intervals. The mean total-N concentration (mg/dl SRL) was higher (p<0.01) in group II (74.16) and group III (75.47) as compared to group I (62.04). Total-N concentration was higher (p<0.01) at 4 h as compared to other time intervals and lowest value was recorded at 0 h.Concentration of TCA-ppt-N (mg/dl SRL) was significantly (p<0.01) lower in control group as compared to niacin supplemented groups. Mean value of NPN (mg/dl SRL) was significantly (p<0.01) lower in group III (23.21) as compared to group I (25.71), whereas groups I and II, and groups II and III were similar to each other. Total protozoa number (${\times}10^4$/ml SRL) ranged from 18.06 to 27.41 in group I, 20.89 to 38.44 in group II and 27.61 to 39.45 in group III. The mean protozoa number was significantly (p<0.01) higher in SRL of group II (27.60) and III (30.59) as compared to group I (22.48). It can be concluded from the study that supplementation of niacin in the diet of buffaloes had improved the rumen fermentation by decreasing the concentration of ammonia-N and increasing protein synthesis.

Changes in the Total Lipid, Neutral Lipid, Phospholipid and Fatty Acid Composition of Phospholipid Fractions during Pastirma Processing, a Dry-Cured Meat Product

  • Pastirma is a dry-cured meat product, produced from whole beef or water buffalo muscles. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of production stages (raw meat, after curing, after $2^{nd}$ drying and pastirma) on the total lipid, neutral lipid, phospholipid and fatty acid composition of phospholipid fraction of pastirma produced from beef M. Longissimus dorsi muscles. The pH and colour ($L^*$, $a^*$ and $b^*$) analyses were also performed in raw meat and pastirma. It was found that pastirma production stages had significant effects (p<0.01) on the total amounts of lipid, neutral lipid and phospholipid, and the highest amounts of lipid, neutral lipid and phospholipid were detected in pastirma. In pastirma, neutral lipid ratio was determined as $79.33{\pm}2.06%$ and phospholipid ratio as $20.67{\pm}2.06%$. Phospholipids was proportionately lower in pastirma than raw meat. Pastirma production stages affected pentadecanoic acid (15:1) (p<0.01), linoleic acid (18:2n-6) (p<0.05), ${\gamma}-linoleic$ acid (18:3n-6) (p<0.05), erucic acid (22:1n-9) (p<0.05), docosapentaenoic acid (22:5n-6) (p<0.05), total unsaturated fatty acid (${\Sigma}USFA$) (p<0.05) and total saturated fatty acid (${\Sigma}SFA$) (p<0.05) ratios of phospholipid fraction and also the moisture content (p<0.01). Pastirma process also affected pH and colour ($L^*$, $a^*$ and $b^*$) values (p<0.01), and these values were higher in pastirma than raw meat.

Effects of Purple Sweet Potato intake and Aerobic Combined Exercise on Health Related Fitness, Blood lipid profile and Insulin resistance (자색고구마 섭취와 유산소 복합운동이 비만 여중생의 건강체력, 혈중지질 및 인슐린 저항성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of purple sweet potato(PSP) intake and aerobic combined exercise in obese middle school girls. Twenty-four, obese(%body fat > 30%) middle school girls composed of the purple sweet potato intake and aerobic combined exercise group(A, n=6), the aerobic combined exercise group(B, n=6), the purple sweet potato intake group(C, n=6), the control group(D, n=6). The variables of health related fitness, blood lipid profile, insulin resistance were measured in all the subjects before the start and after the end of 12 week aerobic combined exercise program(40~70%HRR, 3 times per week, 70 mins). The test data were analyzed by paired t-test and one way ANOVA, and the alpha level of p<.05 was set for all tests of significance. In the comparison within each group, %body fat[A(p<.01), C(p<.05) groups], TC[A(p<.05), B(p<.01), C(p<.01) groups] and insulin resistance[A(p<.05) group] were significantly decreased and LBM[A(p<.01), B(p<.01) groups], muscular strength[A(p<.01), B(p<.001), C(p<.05) groups], muscular endurance[A(p<.05), B(p<.001) groups], flexibility[A(p<.05), B(p<.01) groups] and cardiorespiratory endurance[A(p<.05), B(p<.001), C(p<.01) groups] were significantly increased. In the comparison between groups, A group was significantly decreased in %body fat, TC and TG than D group(p<.05). A group was significantly increased in muscular strength and cardiorespiratory endurance than C, D groups (p<.05). A group was significantly increased in muscular endurance and HDL-C than D group(p<.05). A, B groups were significantly increased in flexibility than D group(p<.05). A, B, C groups were significantly decreased in insulin resistance than D group(p<.05). In conclusion, purple sweet potato intake and aerobic combined exercise were effective in improving the health related fitness, blood lipid profile and insulin resistance in obese middle school girls.

A Study on the Effect of Aluminum Alloy on the Crack Growth Behaviour (알루미늄 합금의 균열진전거동에 관한 연구)

  • According to the development of the aircraft industry, the fatigue strength of Aluminum Alloy becomes a great important material, but it seems that we don't understand an effect on the crack growth behaviour very well. This thesis is not only studied about the five kinds of 2017-T3, 2023-T3, 5083-0, 7075-T6, 7N01-T6 among the Aluminum Alloy which are the main materials of the aircraft, but also small or large relations against the fatigue strength of them. The consequence of the research was being progressed the accordance with the order. That is, The order is 2024-T3> 2017-T3> 7N01-T6> 7075-T6> 5083-0. These inclusion came out the acceleration phenomena in the crack growth behaviour among the high ${\Delta}K$ section Nevertheless I figured out their effects were being ignored at the 2b step.

Comparison of Carcass Characteristics, Meat Quality, Amino Acids Contents, and Fatty Acid Profiles of Korea Native Pig by Gender (한국재래돼지의 성별에 따른 도체 특성, 육질, 아미노산 및 지방산 조성 비교)

  • A total of 30 Korean native pigs (gilt 15, boar 15) were used to investigate the carcass characteristics, meat quality, amino acid, and fatty acid composition by gender. The carcass weight of boars were significantly higher than gilts, whereas the carcass yield of gilts had significantly higher than boars (p<0.01). Boars had significantly higher moisture contents in loin muscle than gilts, whereas the protein contents of loin muscle had significantly higher in gilts than boars (p<0.01). In the results of meat quality analysis, the cooking loss (p<0.01), shearing force (p<0.05), lightness (L) and yellowness (b) in meat color (p<0.05) were significantly higher, but the pH was significantly lower (p<0.01) in gilts compared with boars. Arginine (p<0.05), alanine, aspartic acid, histidine, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, serine, threonine and tyrosin (p<0.01) for gilts were significantly higher than those for boars. The results of fatty acid composition showed that gilts had significantly higher contents of C16:1n7, C18:1n9, C20:1n9 (p<0.01) than boars in intramuscular fat, whereas boars had significantly higher contents of C18:2n6, C20:4n6 (p<0.01) and C18:3n3 (p<0.05) than gilts in intramuscular fat.

Change of Mitochondrial Biogenesis Genes on Regular Exercise Training in Adipocytes of Ovariectomized Rats Fed on High Fat Diet (규칙적 운동이 고지방식이 난소절제흰쥐의 지방세포에서 미토콘드리아 생합성 유전자들의 변화)

  • Menopause and obesity are associated with metabolism. The purpose of this study was to examine the changes of PPAR${\gamma}$, PGC-1(${\alpha},\;{\beta}$), NRf-1 and TFAM mRNA and mitochondria biogenesis in adipocytes and investigate the effect of swimming exercise for 6weeks on ovariectomized rats. Rats were randomly assigned to 3 groups: (1) ovariectomized rats fed with a control diet (C, n=4), (2) ovariectomized rats fed with high fat diet (H, n=4), and (3) ovariectomized rats trained to exercise and fed with high fat diet (H+EX, n=4). Exercise was performed by swimming for 5 days/wk, with a progressive increase in exercise over the course of 6 weeks. Results showed that the fat tissue weight in the H group was markedly increased (p<0.01) compared to other groups, however, regular exercise significantly decreased fat weight. The PPAR-${\gamma}$ (p<0.05), PGC-$1{\alpha}$ (p<0.01), -$1{\beta}$ (p<0.05), NRf-1 (p<0.01) and TFAM (p<0.05) mRNA expression in the adipocytes of H+EX were higher than in the H group. These results suggest that regular exercise for 6 weeks might exert positive effects by increasing PPAR-${\gamma}$, PGC-1 (${\alpha},\;{\beta}$), NRf-1 and TFAM mRNA expression and mitochondria in adipocytes. Thus, regular exercise may be helpful in the improvement of mitochondria biogenesis function in obese, ovariectomized rats.

Effects of Persimmon (Diospros kaki L.) Vinegar as a Dietary Supplement on Feed Intake, Digestibility, and Ruminal Fermentation Indices in Sheep

  • This study estimated the effect of fermented persimmon (Diospros kaki L.) extract (FPE) supplement on feed intake, digestibility, nitrogen (N) balance, and rumen fermentation characteristics in sheep. Five male sheep (Corriedale${\times}$Polwarth) with average body weight of $48.6{\pm}1.3\;kg$ were housed in metabolism crates and assigned to a 5${\times}$5 Latin square design with five consecutive 20-d periods which consisted of 14-d adaptation and 6-d data collection. The sheep were fed ad libitum a diet containing concentrate and rice straw (3:7). The five treatments were FPE supplemented at 0 (Control), 5, 10, 20, and 30 g/kg of concentrate. Intakes of dry matter (DM, p<0.01), organic matter (OM, p<0.01), neutral detergent fiber (NDF, p<0.05), acid detergent fiber (ADF, p<0.05), and nitrogen-free extract (NFE, p<0.01) increased quadratically with increasing intake of FPE supplement and maximized (p<0.05) at 10 g/kg FPE. The digestibilities of DM (p<0.05), OM (p<0.05), crude protein (p<0.01), and NFE (p<0.01) increased quadratically with increasing amount of FPE supplement, and sheep fed 5 and 10 g/kg diets had greater (p<0.05) DM, OM, and NFE digestibilites than the Control treatment. By increasing FPE supplement concentration, N intake (p<0.01) and fecal N (p<0.05) increased linearly, whereas retained N (p<0.05) and retained N ratio (p<0.05) increased quadratically. The retained N was maximized (p<0.05) in sheep fed 5 and 10 g/kg diets. The mean rumen pH was not affected by FPE supplement, but there was a quadratic increase (p<0.05) of mean rumen ammonia N concentration and a linear increase (p<0.01) in mean rumen total volatile fatty acid (VFA) and acetate concentrations. The mean concentration of rumen propionate in sheep fed all FPE supplemented diets was greater (p<0.05) than the Control, but the mean ratios of rumen acetate to propionate in sheep fed 5 and 10 g/kg diets were lower (p<0.05) than that of Control sheep. In conclusion, FPE supplemented at 5-10 g/kg of concentrate improved feed intake, the digestibilites of OM and NFE, N metabolism, and rumen fermentation indices of sheep.
