A Digital Bathymetric Model combining Multi Beam Echo Sounder and Sidescan Sonar

  • The combination of Multi-Beam Echo Sounder swath bathymetry and high-resolution towed Sidescan sonar provides a powerful method of examination about hydrographic survey results. In this paper, we investigate the fast method of 3D bathymetric reconstruction with the Digital Sidescan sonar(Benthos SIS 1500) and Shallow Multi-Beam Echo Sounder(Reson Seabat 8125). The Seabat 8125 is a 455KHz high resolution focused Multibeam echo sounder(MBES) system which measures the relative water depth across a wide swath perpendicular to a vessel's track. The Benthos SIS1500 is a chirp(nominal fq. 200KHz) sonar which map the topographical features & sediment texture of ocean bottom using backscattered amplitude. We generates the very large 3D bathymetric texture mapping model with the Helical System's HHViewer and describes additional benefits of combining MBES and Sidescan Sonar imagery, the removal of geometric distortions in the model and a deterministic sounding noise.

Dry friction losses in axially loaded cables

  • A model of a cable comprising interacting wires with dry friction forces at the interfaces is subjected to a quasi-static cyclic loading. The first cycle of this process, comprising of axial loading, unloading and reloading is investigated analytically. Explicit load-elongation relationships are obtained for all of the above phases of the cycle. An expression for the hysteretic losses is also obtained in an explicit form. It is shown that losses are proportional to the third power of the amplitude of the oscillating axial force, and are in inverse proportion to the interwire friction forces. The results obtained are used to introduce a model of a cable as a solid rod with an equivalent stiffness and damping properties of the rod material. It is shown that the stiffness of the equivalent rod is weakly nonlinear, whereas the viscous damping coefficient is proportional to the amplitude of the oscillation. Some numerical results illustrating the effect of cable parameters on the losses are given.

Improving Energy Efficiency and Lifetime of Phase Change Memory using Delta Value Indicator

  • Phase change memory (PCM) has been studied as an emerging memory technology for last-level cache (LLC) due to its extremely low leakage. However, it consumes high levels of energy in updating cells and its write endurance is limited. To relieve the write pressure of LLC, we propose a delta value indicator (DVI) by employing a small cache which stores the difference between the value currently stored and the value newly loaded. Since the write energy consumption of the small cache is less than the LLC, the energy consumption is reduced by access to the small cache instead of the LLC. In addition, the lifetime of the LLC is further extended because the number of write accesses to the LLC is decreased. To this end, a delta value indicator and controlling circuits are inserted into the LLC. The simulation results show a 26.8% saving of dynamic energy consumption and a 31.7% lifetime extension compared to a state-of-the-art scheme for PCM.

CNN의 SoftMax 연산을 위한 연속 근사 방식의 로그 연산 회로 (Successive Approximated Log Operation Circuit for SoftMax in CNN)

  • In a CNN for image classification, a SoftMax layer is usually placed at the end. The exponentinal and logarithmic operations in the SoftMax layer are not adequate to be implemented in an accelerator circuit. The operations are usually implemented with look-up tables, and the exponential operation can be implemented in an iterative method. This paper proposes a successive approximation method to calculate a logarithm to remove a very large look-up table. By substituing the large table with two very small tables, the circuit can be reduced much. The experimental results show that the 85% area reduction can be reached with a small error degradation.

소실점 정보의 Loss 함수를 이용한 특징선 기반 SLAM (Line-Based SLAM Using Vanishing Point Measurements Loss Function)

  • In this paper, a novel line-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) using a loss function of vanishing point measurements is proposed. In general, the Huber norm is used as a loss function for point and line features in feature-based SLAM. The proposed loss function of vanishing point measurements is based on the unit sphere model. Because the point and line feature measurements define the reprojection error in the image plane as a residual, linear loss functions such as the Huber norm is used. However, the typical loss functions are not suitable for vanishing point measurements with unbounded problems. To tackle this problem, we propose a loss function for vanishing point measurements. The proposed loss function is based on unit sphere model. Finally, we prove the validity of the loss function for vanishing point through experiments on a public dataset.

스크루 회전속도, 수분 함량과 사출구 온도가 압출성형 분리대두단백의 조직화에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Screw Speed, Moisture Content, and Die Temperature on Texturization of Extruded Soy Protein Isolate)

  • 수분 함량과 사출구 온도, 스크루 회전속도가 분리대두단백의 조직화 및 물리적 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 압출성형 조건은 스크루 회전속도를 250 rpm으로 고정하고 수분 함량과 사출구 온도를 20, 25%와 120, 130, $140^{\circ}C$로 조절하였다. 또 다른 압출성형은 수분 함량과 사출구 온도를 30%와 $140^{\circ}C$로 고정하고 스크루 회전속도를 150, 200, 250, 300, 330 rpm으로 조절하였다. 사출구 온도가 $120^{\circ}C$에서 $140^{\circ}C$로 증가함에 따라 비기계적 에너지 투입량은 감소하였으며, 스크루 회전속도가 150 rpm에서 330 rpm으로 증가할수록 비기계적 에너지 투입량은 증가하였다. 사출구 온도가 증가하고 수분 함량이 감소할수록 직경팽화율과 비 길이는 증가하였으며, 밀도는 수분 함량 20%에서 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 사출구 온도가 증가하고 수분 함량이 감소할수록 기공형성이 증가하여 파괴력이 감소하였으며 사출구 온도 $140^{\circ}C$, 수분 함량 20%에서 $2.07E+04N/m^2$로 가장 낮은 값을 보였다. 수분 함량이 25%에서 20%로 감소하면서 갈변으로 인해 명도가 감소하고 적색도와 황색도는 증가하는 경향을 보였으며 총 색도차는 증가하였다. 스크루 회전속도가 150 rpm에서 330 rpm으로 증가할수록 총 색도차가 증가하였다. 조직잔사지수는 사출구 온도가 증가하고 수분 함량이 낮을수록 증가하였으며, 사출구 온도 $140^{\circ}C$, 수분 함량 20%에서 $26.21{\pm}4.28%$로 가장 높은 값을 보였다. 조직잔사지수는 사출구 온도보다 수분 함량의 영향이 컸다. 사출구 온도가 $120^{\circ}C$에서 $140^{\circ}C$로 증가하고 수분 함량이 25%에서 20%로 감소할수록 수용성 질소지수는 증가하였으며 수분 함량 20%, 사출구 온도 $140^{\circ}C$에서 $7.88{\pm}0.47%$로 가장 높은 값을 보였다. 스크루 회전속도가 330 rpm에서 150 rpm으로 감소함에 따라 수용성 질소지수는 감소하였으며 150 rpm에서 $2.83{\pm}0.51%$로 가장 낮은 값을 보였다. 본 연구를 통하여 수분 함량이 사출구 온도보다 조직화에 더 큰 영향을 주는 것을 알 수 있었다.

An Efficient Representation Method for ICLD with Robustness to Spectral Distortion

  • The Inter-Channel Level Difference (ICLD) is a cue parameter to estimate spectral information in a binaural cue coding that has been recently in the spotlight as a multichannel audio signal compression technique. Even though the ICLD is an essential parameter, it is generally distorted by quantization. In this paper, a new modified ICLE representation method to minimize the quantization distortion is proposed by adopting a flexible determination of the reference channel and the unidirectional quantization. Our experimental result confirms that the proposed method improves the multichannel audio output quality even with the reduced bit-rate.

영구자석 동기전동기의 벡터 제어를 위한 퍼지 각가속도 관측기 기반의 퍼지 속도제어기 (Fuzzy Speed Regulator based on a Fuzzy Acceleration Observer for Vector Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors)

  • This paper presents a new fuzzy speed controller based on a fuzzy angular acceleration observer to realize a robust speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSM). The proposed speed controller needs the information of the angular acceleration, thus the first-order fuzzy acceleration observer is designed. The LMI existence condition is given for the proposed fuzzy speed controller, and the gain matrices of the controller are calculated. It is verified that the augmented control system consisting of the fuzzy speed controller and the fuzzy acceleration observer is mathematically stable. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed acceleration observer-based fuzzy speed controller, the simulation and experimental results are shown under motor parameter variations. It is definitely proven that the proposed control scheme can precisely track the speed of a permanent magnet synchronous motor.

Long-term Growth Patterns and Determinants of High-growth Startups - Focusing on Korean Gazelle Companies during 2006-2020

  • To know the long-term growth patterns and determinants of successful startups, 15-year (2006-2020) panel data of 252 companies that had a growth rate of over 20% every year in the last three years were used. In the first analysis, statistics on the period required to designate a gazelle company or listed on the stock market were examined. In addition, five long-term growth patterns were presented. In the panel analysis, the R&D intensity, operating profit ratio, size, and age of the company were pointed out as determinants of growth. The operating profit margin and R&D intensity have a positive effect on growth. Gibrat's law was not supported, but an inverted U-shape was observed. Jovanovic's law was confirmed. Although many studies tend not to point to profitability as a determinant of long-term growth, this is an important long-term growth factor of a company. The operating profit ratio was used in this study.
