  • Generation and transport of nonpoint source pollution, especially sediment-associated pollutants, are profoundly influenced by hydrologic features of runoff. In order to identify pollutant export rates, hence, clear knowledge of rainfall-runoff relationship is a pre-requisition. In this study, performance of AnnAGNPS model was assessed based on the ability of the model to predict rainfall-runoff relationship. Three catchments, each under different nearly single land use, were simulated. From the results, it was found that the model was likely to produce better predictions for larger catchments than smaller catchments. Because of using the daily time scale, the model could not account for short durations less than 24 hours, especially high intensity events with multiple peak flow that significantly contribute to the generation and transport of pollutants. Since CN information for regional areas has not been built up, a careful selection of CN is needed to achieve accurate prediction of runoff volume. Storm distribution also found to be considered as an important calibration parameter for the hydrologic simulation.

  • The photoelectrochemical behavior of polypyrrole films on Pt, glassy-C and indium tin oxide(ITO) under illumination was studied in aqueous solution containing a redox couple such as I-/I2 or Fe(CN)64-/Fe(CN)63-. Polypyrrole(PPy) was coated on Pt, glassy-C and ITO electrodes using electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole by potentiostatic method. Illumination of the PPy film results in the increase of cathodic and anodic currents at redox potentials of the redox species. These enhanced currents are caused both by the semiconductor characteristics of PPy and by the photothermal acceleration of redox reaction at PPy-electrode surface, and are dependent on the pH of redox solutions and the dopants in PPy.

  • The nomenclature of genetic variants of casein which is major protein in milk have had a lot of confusion, but now have established. Genetic variants of ${\alpha}_{s1}-CN,\;{\alpha}_{s2}-CN,\;{\beta}-CN,\;{\kappa}-CN$ have reported 8 variants(A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H), 4 variants(A, B, C, D), 13 variants ($A_1,\;A_2,\;A_3,\;A_4$, B, C, D, E, F, G, $H_1,\;H_2$, I), 11 variants(A, B, C, E, $F_1,\;F_2,\;G_1,\;G_2$, H, I, J), respectively. Their data detailed have introduced in several web sites including www.uniprot.org. The studies on genetic variants of casein from Korean native cattle have been reported only ${\beta}-casein\;A_4$ but still not established the protein sequence. The classification and distinct nomenclature of genetic variants of bovine casein were required because the development of milk science and technology have been focused in the region that have to studied biochemically such as functional foods, EMC and GMO et al.

  • In this study, CN value was estimated by using detailed soil map and land cover characteristic against upper basin of Kumho watermark located on the upper basin of Kumho river and the hydrologic morphological characteristic factors were extracted from the basin by using the DEM document. Also the runoff analysis was conducted by the WMS model in order to study how the assumed CN value affects the runoff characteristic. First of all, as a result of studying the soil type in this study area, mostly D type soil was Identified by the application of the 1987 classification criteria. However, by that in 1995, B type soil and C type soil were distributed more widely in that area. When CN value was classified by the 1995 classification criteria, it was estimated lower than in 1987, as a result of comparing the estimated CNs by those standars. Also it was assumed that CN value was underestimated when the plan for Geum-ho river maintenance was drawn up. As a result of the analysis of runoff characteristic, the pattern of generation of the classification criteria of soil groups appeared to be similar, but in the case of the application of the classification criteria in 1995, the peak rate of runoff was found to be smaller on the whole than in the case of the application of the classification criteria in 1987. Also when the statistical data such as the prediction errors, the mean squared errors, the coefficient of determination and other data emerging from the analysis, was looked over in total, it seemed appropriate to apply the 1995 classification criteria when hydrological soil classification group was applied. As the result of this study, however, the difference of the result of the statistical dat was somewhat small. In future study, it is necessary to follow up evidence about soil application On many more watersheds and in heavy rain.

  • The rates of reaction between 4-substituted-2,6-dinitrochlorobenzenes with para-substituted anilines in methanol-acetonitrile mixtures were measured by conductometry. It was observed that the rate constant increases in the order of X = 4-$NO_2 {\gg}4-CN {\gg}4- CF_3$, where X is a substituent in the substrate. The rate constant also increases in the order of Y = p-O$CH_3{\gg}p- CH_3{\gg}H {\gg}p-Cl{\gg}m- NO_2$, where Y is a substituent in the aniline ring. Kinetic studies in the methanol-acetonitrile solvent system with various nucleophiles showed that the N-C bond forming step is making a great contribution to the overall second order rate constant. The electrophilic catalysis by methanol probably consists of the hydrogen bonding between alcoholic hydrogen and leaving chloride in the transition state. The nucleophilic catalysis by methanol may be ascribed to the formation of hydrogen bonds between alcoholic oxygen and hydrogens of amines in the transition state. All these experimental facts are supporting the operation of $S_N$Ar machanism with the second step being the rate determining. This mechanism can be successfully fitted to the PES model.

  • Aromatic nitriles possess versatile utilities and are indispensible not only in organic synthesis but also in chemical industry. In fact, the nitrile group is an important precursor for various functional groups such as aldehydes, amines, amidines, tetrazoles, amides, and their carboxyl derivatives. Representative methods for the preparation of organonitriles with cyanide-containing reagents are the Sandmeyer and Rosenmund-von Braun reactions. Recently, a catalytic route to aryl nitriles has been reported on the basis of the chelation-assisted C-H bond activation or metal-catalyzed cyanation of haloarenes. In those cyanation protocols, the "CN" unit is provided from metal-bound precursors of MCN (M=Cu, K, Na, Zn), TMSCN, or K3Fe(CN)6. Additionally, it can be generated in situ from nitromethane or acetone cyanohydrin. Herein, we report the first example of generating "CN" from two different, readily available precursors, ammonia and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). In addition, its synthetic utility is demonstrated through the Pd-catalyzed cyanation of arene C-H bonds.

  • Me3NO selectively abstracts the proton from [IrH(CO)(PPh3)2L(A)]0.1+,2+ (1) (A: -CCPh, Cl-, CH3CN and L: CH3CN, Cl-, C1O4-) to give the trans-elimination products, Ir(CO)(PPh3)2(A) (2). The reductive elimination of H+ and Cl- from Ir(H)Cl2(CO)(PPh3)2 (lb) to give IrCl(CO)(PPh3)2 (2b) is first order in both lb and Me3NO. The rate law d[2b]/dt=kobs[lb]=k2[lb][Me3NO] suggests the formation of (PPh3)2(CI)2(CO)Ir-H-ON+Me3 in the rate determining step (k2) followed by the fast dissociation of both H-ON+Me3 and the trans ligand Cl-. The rate significantly varies with the cis liaand A and the trans ligand L and is slower with both A and L being Cl- than other ligands. Me3NO selectively eliminates CO from [Ir(H)2(CO)(PPh3)2L]0,+ (3) (L=CH3CN, C1O4-) to produce [Ir(H)2(PPh3)2L'(CH3CN)]+ (4) (L'=CH3CN, PPh3) in the presence of L. Me3NO does not readily remove either H+ or CO from cis, trans- and trans, trans-lr(H)(-CCPh)2(CO)(PPh3)2 and cis, trans-Ir(H)2Cl(CO)(PPh3)2. The choice whether hydridocarbonyls, 1 and 3 undergo the deprotonation or decarbonylation may be understood mostly in terms of thermodynamic stability of the products and partly by kinetic preference of Me3NO on proton and CO.

  • Reduction of carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes, ketones, $\alpha,\beta$-unsaturated enals and enones, $\alpha$-diketones and acyloins was carried out readily with $NaBH_3CN$ in the presence of wet $SiO_2$ as a neutral media. The reactions were performed at solvent-free conditions in oil bath (70 - $80^{\circ}C$) or under microwave irradiation (240 W) to give the product alcohols in high to excellent yields. Regioselective 1,2-reduction of conjugated carbonyl compounds took place in a perfect selectivity without any side product formation.

  • The aerobic oxidation of the Fe(II) complex of 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane, [Fe(cyclam)$(CH_3CN)_2](ClO_4)_2$, in MeCN in the presence of a few drops of $HClO_4$ leads to low spin Fe(III) species [Fe(cyclam)$(CH_3CN)_2](ClO_4)_3$. The Fe(III) cyclam complex is further oxidized in the air in the presence of a trace of water to produce the deep green binuclear bismacrocyclic Fe(II) complex $[Fe_2(C_{20}H_{36}N_8)(CH_3CN)_4](ClO_4)_4{\cdot}2CH_3CN$. The Fe(II) ions of the complex are six-coordinated and the bismacrocyclic ligand is extensively unsaturated. $[Fe_2(C_{20}H_{36}N_8)(CH_3CN)_4](ClO_4)_4{\cdot}2CH_3CN$ crystallizes in the monoclinic space group $P2_1/n$ with a= 13.099 (1) ${\AA}$, b= 10.930 (1) ${\AA}$, c= 17.859 (1) ${\AA}$, ${\beta}$= 95.315 $(7)^{\circ}$, and Z= 2. The structure was solved by heavy atom methods and refined anisotropically to R values of R= 0.0633 and $R_w$= 0.0702 for 1819 observed reflections with F > $4{\sigma}$ (F) measured with Mo K${\alpha}$ radiation on a CAD-4 diffractometer. The two macrocyclic units are coupled through the bridgehead carbons of ${\beta}$-diimitie moieties by a double bond. The double bonds in each macrocycle unit are localized. The average bond distances of $Fe(II)-N_{imine}$, $Fe(II)-N_{amine}$, and $Fe(II)-N_{MeCN}$ are 1.890 (5), 2.001 (5), and 1.925 (6) ${\AA}$, respectively. The complex is diamagnetic, containing two low spin Fe(II) ions in the molecule. The complex shows extremely intense charge transfer band in the near infrared at 868 nm with ${\varepsilon}$= 25,000 $M^{-1}cm^{-1}$. The complex shows a one-electron oxidation wave at +0.83 volts and two one-electron reduction waves at -0.43 and-0.72 volts vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The complex reacts with carbon monoxide in $MeNO_2$ to form carbonyl adducts, whose $v_{CO}$ value (2010 $cm^{-1}$) indicates the ${\pi}$-accepting property of the present bismacrocyclic ligand.

  • Effects of the addition of single or blends of konjac flour (KF), carrageenan (CN), and soy protein isolate (SPI) into the sausage formulation were determined based on the physico-chemical and textural characteristics of low-fat comminuted sausage (LFS, fat <3%). LFSs had a pH range of 6.10 to 6.16, 77-79% moisture, <3% fat, and 13-15% protein contents, whereas regular-fat sausages (RFSs) had a pH value of 6.11, 62.5% moisture, 19.4% fat, and 11.9% protein. LFSs containing fat replacers were reduced (P<0.05) cooking loss (CL, %). KF alone or mixed with other hydrocolloids slightly improved the water-holding capacity, whereas CN increased (P<0.05) the gel strength, resulting in higher hardness values. Replacement of 6% lean meat with 1.5% SPI alone increased (P<0.05) yellowness (Hunter b value) and expressible moisture (EM, %). TPA values of KF+CN+SPI were the most similar to those of RFSs. These results indicated that triple addition of KF, CN and SPI at the ratio of 1 : 1 : 3 in LFS formulation improved functional properties, as compared to the low-fat control, and had textural characteristics most similar to those with RFSs.
