Design and Implementation of Multi-rate Broadcast based Link Quality Measurement for WLAN Mesh Network (다중 전송률을 반영한 무선랜 매쉬 링크 품질 측정방법의 설계 및 구현)

  • We propose MBAP(Multi-rate Broadcast Active Probing) technique to get the right measurements for link quality in Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). Most routing protocols for WMN make use of link quality-aware routing metrics, such as ETX(Expected Transmission Count) and ETT(Expected Transmission Time), while the hop count is usually used in MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork). A broadcast based active proving technique is adopted in the previous studies to get the ETX or ETT of a link. However this technique does not reflect the multi-rate feature of WLAN because it uses a single fixed transmission rate for broadcast which usually differs from the actual rate used in data transmissions. MBAP overcomes this shortage by exploiting various rate broadcast frames for probing. We implement MBAP on linux system by modifying WLAN driver and related kernel sub-systems. Experimental results show that MBAP can capture link quality more accurately than the existing techniques.

  • Traditional applications are executed using the restricted resources of a single computer, do not consider contextual information, and can not support mobile users. However, ubiquitous applications provide optimal services for mobile users using the various resources of computers and the contextual information around users and devices. Thus, ubiquitous applications need to have the functionality of context awareness, user mobility and QoS adaptability. This paper design the CMQ(Context-aware, Mobility-aware, QoS-aware) middleware framework for ubiquitous applications and implement the middleware framework using Jini and Java. The implemented middleware system can process various contexts, provide the session handoff for a mobile user, and allow applications to adjust its QoS dynamically.

A MOM-based algorithm for moving force identification: Part I - Theory and numerical simulation

  • The moving vehicle loads on a bridge deck is one of the most important live loads of bridges. They should be understood, monitored and controlled before the bridge design as well as when the bridge is open for traffic. A MOM-based algorithm (MOMA) is proposed for identifying the timevarying moving vehicle loads from the responses of bridge deck in this paper. It aims at an acceptable solution to the ill-conditioning problem that often exists in the inverse problem of moving force identification. The moving vehicle loads are described as a combination of whole basis functions, such as orthogonal Legendre polynomials or Fourier series, and further estimated by solving the new system equations developed with the basis functions. A number of responses have been combined, some numerical simulations on single axle, two axle and multiple-axle loads, being either constant or timevarying, have been carried out and compared with the existing time domain method (TDM) in this paper. The illustrated results show that the MOMA has higher identification accuracy and robust noise immunity as well as producing an acceptable solution to ill-conditioning cases to some extent when it is used to identify the moving force from bridge responses.

  • The purpose of this study is suggesting the direction for improving web accessibility by analyzing the state of abiding by the web accessibility by the centers for teaching and learning support at the education offices in cities and provinces which provide the learning and teaching materials to the K-12 members and the interested people. For this aim, nine centers for teaching and learning support were evaluated. The primary manual evaluation by two experts and the evaluation by 18 users were conducted. The users were comprised of hearing-impaired people, visually-impaired people, brain-disabled people, the elderly, various browser users, and a variety of operating system users. As a result of the analysis, not a single center for teaching and learning support had conformed to web accessibility in the expert evaluation and the user evaluation. As a result of the expert evaluation, the errors regarding web design improvement, HTML source error correction, and provision of alternative measures for the disabled were found. This study is meaningful in the sense that it provided various discussions with regard to the direction of the future web accessibility evaluation based on the improved web accessibility evaluation method.

  • CMG(Control Momentum Gyro) is a control device being used for spacecraft attitude control constructing relatively large amount of torque compared to conventional body-fixed reaction wheels. The CMG produces gyroscopic control torque by continuously varying the angular momentum vector direction with respect to the spacecraft body. The VSCMG(Variable Speed Control Momentum Gyro) has favorable advantages with variable speed to lead to better control authority as well as singularity avoidance capability. Attitude dynamics with a VSCMG mounted on a two-axis gimbal system are derived in this study. The dynamic equation may be considered as an extension of the single-axis counterpart. Also, a feedback control law design is addressed in conjunction with the dynamic equations of motion.

Damping of a taut cable with two attached high damping rubber dampers

  • Due to their low intrinsic damping, stay cables in cable-stayed bridges have often exhibited unanticipated and excessive vibrations which result in increasing maintenance frequency and disruption to normal operations of the entire bridges. Mitigation of undesired cable vibration can be achieved by attaching an external damping device near the anchorage. High Damping Rubber (HDR) dampers have many advantages such as compact size, better aesthetics, easy maintenance, temperature stability, and cost benefits; therefore, they have been widely used to increase cable damping. Although a single damper has been shown to reduce cable vibrations, it is not the most effective method due to geometric constraints. This paper proposes the use of two HDR dampers to improve effectiveness and robustness in suppressing cable vibration. Oscillation parameters of the cable-dampers system were investigated in detail by modeling the stay cable as a taut string and each HDR damper as complex-valued impedance and by using an analytical formulation of the complex eigenvalue problem. The problem of two HDR dampers arbitrarily located along a cable is solved and the solution is discussed. Asymptotic formulas to calculate the damping ratios of the cable with two HDR dampers installed near the anchorage(s) are proposed and compared with the exact solutions. Further, a design example is presented in order to justify the methodology. The results of this study show that when the two HDR dampers are installed close to each other on the same end of the cable, some interaction between the dampers leads to reduced damping ratio. When the dampers are on the opposite ends of the cable, they are effective in increasing damping ratio and can provide better vibration reduction to multiple modes.

A full path assessment approach for vibration serviceability and vibration control of footbridges

  • Most of the existing evaluation criteria of vibration serviceability rely on the peak acceleration of the structure rather than that of the people keeping their own body unmoved on the structure who is the real receiver of structural vibrations. In order to accurately assess the vibration serviceability, therefore, a full path assessment approach of vibration serviceability based on vibration source, path and receiver is not only tentatively proposed in this paper, taking the peak acceleration of receiver into account, but also introduce a probability procedure to provide more instructive information instead of a single value. In fact, semi-rigid supported on both sides of the structure is more consistent with the actual situation than simply supported or clamped due to the application of the prefabricated footbridge structures. So, the footbridge is regarded as a beam with semi-rigid supported on both sides in this paper. The differential quadrature-integral quadrature coupled method is not only to handle different type of boundary conditions, but also after being further modified via the introduction of an approximation procedure in this work, the time-varying system problem caused by human-structure interaction can be solved well. The analytical results of numerical simulations demonstrate that the modified differential quadrature-integral quadrature coupled method has higher reliability and accuracy compared with the mode superposition method. What's more, both of the two different passive control measures, the tuned mass damper and semi-rigid supported, have good performance for reducing vibrations. Most importantly, semi-rigid supported is easier to achieve the objective of reducing vibration compared with tuned mass damper in design stage of structure.

The Effects of Content and Distribution of Recommended Items on User Satisfaction: Focus on YouTube

  • The performance of recommender systems (RS) has been measured mainly in terms of accuracy. However, there are other aspects of performance that are difficult to understand in terms of accuracy, such as coverage, serendipity, and satisfaction with recommended results. Moreover, particularly with RSs that suggest multiple items at a time, such as YouTube, user satisfaction with recommended results may vary not only depending on their accuracy, but also on their configuration, content, and design displayed to the user. This is true when classifying an RS as a single RS with one recommended result and as a multiple RS with diverse results. No empirical analysis has been conducted on the influence of the content and distribution of recommendation items on user satisfaction. In this study, we propose a research model representing the content and distribution of recommended items and how they affect user satisfaction with the RS. We focus on RSs that recommend multiple items. We performed an empirical analysis involving 149 YouTube users. The results suggest that user satisfaction with recommended results is significantly affected according to the HHI (Herfindahl-Hirschman Index). In addition, satisfaction significantly increased when the recommended item on the top of the list was the same category in terms of content that users were currently watching. Particularly when the purpose of using RS is hedonic, not utilitarian, the results showed greater satisfaction when the number of views of the recommended items was evenly distributed. However, other characteristics of selected content, such as view count and playback time, had relatively less impact on satisfaction with recommended items. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to show that the category concentration of items impacts user satisfaction on websites recommending diverse items in different categories using a content-based filtering system, such as YouTube. In addition, our use of the HHI index, which has been extensively used in economics research, to show the distributional characteristics of recommended items, is also unique. The HHI for categories of recommended items was useful in explaining user satisfaction.

Gait Analysis of Patients with Tumor Prosthesis around the Knee (인공 종양대치물을 이용한 사지구제술후의 보행 분석)

  • Prosthetic replacement is one of the most common methods of reconstruction after resection of malignant tumor around the knee. Gait analysis provides a relative objective data about the gait function of patients with prosthesis. The purpose of this study was to compare the gait pattern of the patients who underwent limb salvage surgery with prosthesis for distal femur and that of patients with prosthesis for proximal tibia. This study included ten patients (4 males, 6 females, mean age 22.7 years, range 14-36) who underwent a wide resection and Kotz hinged modular reconstruction prosthesis replacement and six normal adult(Control). The site of bone tumor was the distal femur (Group 1) in six patients and proximal tibia (Group 2) in 4 patients. The follow-up period ranged from 15 to 82 months (mean : 33 months). The evaluation consisted of clinical assessment, radiographic assessment, gait analysis using VICON 370 Motion Analysis System. The gait analysis included the linear parameters such as, walking velocity, cadence, step length, stride length, stance time, swing time, single support and double support time and the three-dimensional kinematics (joint rotation angle, velocity of joint rotation) of ankle, knee, hip and pelvis in sagittal, coronal and transverse plane. For the kinetic evaluation, the moment of force (unit: Nm/kg) and power (unit: Watt/kg) of ankle, knee and hip joint in sagittal, coronal and transverse plane. In the linear parameters, cadence, velocity, step time and single support were decreased in both group 1 and group 2 compared with control. Double support decreased in group 2 compared with control significantly(p<.05). In contrast to our hypothesis, there was no significant difference between group 1 and group 2.   • A large number of people living in modern times prefer remaining unmarried or living alone independently for the reason of their own will or another person's will. This is because they dislike being interfered with by other persons or because there is a financial problem. This behavior has become mainstream in persons working for professional jobs, persons having a strong disposition toward individual activity or college students. In particular, career women pursuing their own comfortable life have the tendency to prefer single life. However, sometimes, they become a target of crime that targets and makes bad use of this point. For these reasons. Consequently, sometimes, they additionally install and use a security system such as door security guard at front door and so on. It is not so difficult to lock the door security guard at the front door. However, it is apt to be forgotten. And when they are on the bedspread before falling asleep, in case they should check whether the door security guard is locked or in case they should lock it, they should get up, go to the entrance, and check and lock the door security guard. They often don't lock the door security guard due to their feeling that it is all right because of annoyance and inconvenience. This paper is intended to work for safety from crime such as illegal housebreaking by more conveniently using the door security guard after designing and implementing a system that can remotely control the door security guard, using a smartphone as a method of resolving this annoyance and keeping life more safe.
