Exploring Domestic and International Elementary School Convergence Science Education Program - Korea, the U.S., and the U.K. - (국·내외 초등학교 융합 과학 교육 프로그램 탐색 - 한국, 미국, 영국을 중심으로 -)

  • This study is subject to compare the STEAM and the STEM education of Korea, the U.K., and the U.S. to find their differences and similarities, as well as the implications in implementing the STEAM education in Korea. In order to accomplish this, the educational objectives, contents and topics, teaching and learning methods, subjects and timing for education, and convergence curriculum were compared; also, after choosing the representative program of each country, a cross-comparative analysis was done for the teaching and learning method distribution ratio, content element distribution ratio, program distribution ratio, STEAM domain ratio, curriculum structure and domain ratio, frequency of inquiry process, basic inquiry, integrated inquiry frequency, hourly basic inquiry, and integrated inquiry process. As a result, it was possible to obtain 77 programs, a total of 656 class hours of Korea, 65 programs and 846 class hours of the U.S., and 75 programs and 774 class hours of the U.K. The results are as follows: Korea's STEAM and the U.K. and the U.S.' STEM all include science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, but in terms of frequency, Korea's STEAM has higher figure in arts. However, the U.K. and the U.S. have higher frequency of debate and discussion, and there were many cases of a student, after receiving feedback from other students, modifying the work.

  • The heating system of korea apartment house is called Ondol. The surface finishing mortar of this floor system typically used the cement based mortar, where the surface finishing mortar easily appears the crack. To order to crack control, the cement that added expansive additive used to reducing dry-shrinkage. For the surface finishing mortar, the types of shrinkage is known as plastic shrinkage, dry-shrinkage and autogenous This experimental study is to investigate the difference on dry-shrinkage of the cement that added expansive additives and OPC. The test method is varied the ration of water/cement (W/C) and the ratio of sand/cement(S/C). For OPC, The increase of the ratio of S/C is reduced dry-shirnkage but for the cement that added expansive additives, the increase of the ratio of S/C is augmented dry-shrinkage For OPC, The increase of the ratio of W/C is augmented dry-shrinkage but for the cement that added expensive, the increased of the ratio of W/C is reduced dry-shrinkage.

  • Those facts I have studied on the theoretical characteristics of stock price earning ratio related with firm evaluation are as followings. First, I have investigated stock valuation analysis under certainty in view of Miller's, Modigliani's and Linter's theories in Chapter Ⅱ, and it is found that stock valuation under uncertainty to which the basic model of MM theory and the concept of capitalization ratio are applied is the same output, as in the case under certainty. And I have examined the stock valuation of growth corporations in which net investment, total capitals and operating profits are expected. Second, I have reexamined the fact that stock price profits are the erotical indices of firm valuation and the firm valuation on the basis of stock price earning ratio in Chapter III. As a whole, I have surveyed the stock price earning ratio theory of the growth stocks and there have been found some problems as such scholars as Malkiel and others have suggested focusing on the stock price structure of growth stocks. To conclude, there must be incessant efforts for the study of security analysis to make it develop ideally.

Association between dietary flavanones intake and lipid profiles according to the presence of metabolic syndrome in Korean women with type 2 diabetes mellitus

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study was aimed at examining the association between dietary flavanones intake and lipid profiles according to the presence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Korean women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). SUBJECTS/METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was performed among 502 female T2DM patients (non-MetS group; n = 129, MetS group; n = 373) who were recruited from the Huh's Diabetes Clinic in Seoul, Korea between 2005 and 2011. The dietary intake was assessed by a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and the data was analyzed using the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis program (CAN-Pro) version 4.0 software. The intake of flavanones was estimated on the basis of the flavonoid database. RESULTS: In the multiple linear regression analysis after adjustment for confounding factors, daily flavanones intake was negatively associated with CVD risk factors such as total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and apoB and apoB/apoA1 ratio only in the MetS group but not in the non-MetS group. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the odds ratio for a higher apoB/apoA1 ratio above the median (${\geq}0.74$) was significantly low in the $4^{th}$ quartile compared to that in the $1^{st}$ quartile of dietary flavanones intake [OR: 0.477, 95% CI: 0.255-0.894, P for trend = 0.0377] in the MetS group. CONCLUSIONS: Dietary flavanones intake was inversely associated with the apoB/apoA1 ratio, suggesting a potential protective effect of flavanones against CVD in T2DM women with MetS.

  • The present paper deals with the dynamic analysis of cracked ceramic-reinforced aluminum composite fixed beams by using a method based on changes in modal strain energy. Mechanical characteristics of composite materials of the beams are predicted through Mori-Tanaka micromechanical scheme. A Comparative study and numerical simulations involve various parameters; ceramic volume fraction, reinforcement aspect ratio, ratio of the reinforcement Young's modulus to the matrix Young's modulus and ratio of the reinforcement density to the matrix density are taken into investigation. The obtained results prove the important effects of these parameters on intact and cracked ceramic aluminum beams.

Determination of the Optimal Mixture Ratio for Extrudates of Job's-tear and Wheat Flour by Mixture Design Analysis (혼합실험계획법에 의한 율무와 밀가루의 압출성형 최적 배합 조건 설정)

  • The aim of this study was to identify the optimal ingredient-mixing ratio of Job's-tear and wheat flour subjected to extrusion. A modified distance-based mixture design analysis was chosen for the experimental design. The results showed that the bending failure force, the a-value, and the water absorbtion index (WAI) value had no correlation with the mixture ratio of Job's-tear and wheat flour. However, the diameter of the extrudates, the L- and b-values, and the water solubility index (WSI) value were all found to be correlated to the mixture ratio. While the first three values were determined using a linear model, the WSI value was determined using a quadratic model. The diameter and color had an inverse correlation to the mixture ratio: the higher the ratio of Job's-tear to wheat flour, the lower the diameter and darker the color. The L- and b-values were found to change in accordance with the mixture ratio of Job's-tear to wheat flour. The lowest WSI value was obtained at a 40:60 ratio of Job's-tear to wheat.

A Causal Model on Household Investment Behavior (가계투자활동의 인과적 모형 분석)

  • This study attempted to examine a theoretical framework which synthesizes risk attitude, type of investment management and investment behavior and to provide the specific investment strategy by analysing several variables which have effect upon the investment behavior. The results of this research were as follow : 1. Risk attitude had significant differences by the variabels such as age, sex, education, income and debt/asset ratio. Also the type of investment management was influenced significantly by the variables such as age, education, occupation, income, total asset, debt/asset ratio, achievement motivation and risk attitude. The ratio of risky asset holdings was affected by the variabels such as age, education, occupation, housing ownership, income, total asset, debt/asset ratio, achievement motivation, risk attitude and type of investment management. 2. Among several variables affecting the ratio of risky asset holding risk attitude, education, type of investment management, debt/asset ratio and achievement motivation had direct effect on it. Besides age had indirect effect through risk attitude and age, achievement motivation and risk attitude had indirect effect through the type of investment management. 3. The results of this study showed that causal relation between input, throughput and output can be applied to household's investment behavior and the concept of risk or risk attitude can be applied to other fields except household's investment. Also it could be attributed to provide the investment strategy for improving level of household's financial well-being.

Association of Mutual Fund Risk Measures and Return Parameters: A Juxtapose of Ranking for Performance in Pakistan

  • This purpose of this study is to investigate the association among mutual funds (MFs) risk measures and return parameters, evaluate mutual fund performance and also explore the best appropriate mutual fund performance measure for investment in Pakistan. Therefore, thirty-five mutual funds have been selected for the period 2007-2015. The Sharpe, Treynor, Jensen Alpha, Information ratio and Fama's Net Selectivity measures has been used to analyze MF performance. Our study findings show significant positive relation exist between Sharpe and Jenson alpha & information ratio (IR); Treynor ratio is negatively correlated to Jenson alpha and Jenson alpha is positively allied with IR. Moreover, association among performance measures, Fama's net selectivity is a major driver in leading to other measures but Sharpe and IR lead to Treynor ratio as well. Furthermore, performance measures are ranked in accordance standard deviation with the arrangement of Fama's net selectivity at top, Jenson Alpha at second, Sharpe ratio at third, IR at fourth and Treynor ratio at fifth position according to risk parameters in Pakistan. Overall, Jensen Alpha measure appears to be the best suitable mutual fund performance measure in Pakistan due to its practical nature. Finally, the Pakistani stock market index KSE100 (as benchmark) performs better than MF industry of Pakistan.

Effects of the P/S Ratio of Dietary Lipids and Antioxidant Vitamin Supplements on the Level of Serum Lipids and Liver. Lipid Peroxidation in Rats Treated with DMBA

  • This study an analyzes the effects of the P/S ratio of dietary lipids and antioxidant vitamin supplements on serum lipids level and fatty acid profile, the degree of lipid peroxidation, and the antioxidant enzyme activities in the liver of rats treated with 7,12-dimethylbenz($\alpha$) anthracene(DMBA). P/S ratio of dietary lipids was made into 0.5, 1 and 2 by mixing palm oil, soybean oil, sesame oil and perilla oil at 10%(w/w) fat level and n-6/n-3 ratio was fixed to 4. Antioxidant vitamin of $\alpha$-tocopherol or $\beta$-carotene was supplemented in addition to vitamin mixture which was given at 1 % of the standard diet. female Sprague-Dawley strain rats, about 60 days old, were divided into three groups(LP : low P/S ratio(0.5), MP : medium P/S ratio (1.0), HP , high P/S ratio(2.0)) and each group was sub-divided into three groups(S ; standard, T ; tocopherol supplemented, C : carotene supplemented): Two weeks after feeding experimental diets, all groups were treated with a single dose of DMBA(2mg/100g BW) by gastric intubation and fed experimental diet for 9 week. The results were as follows ; 1) Serum total cholesterol(TC) level was not significantly influenced by diet but tended to be lower in HP groups compared to LP and MP groups. Triglyceride level was the highest in LP groups and the lowest in $\alpha$-tocopherol supplemented groups. 2) Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance(TBARS) level, representing lipid peroxidation in hepatic microsome, tended to be increased as the unsaturation of dietary lipids increases. $\alpha$-Tocopherol supplement significantly decreased TBARS level. 3) The activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSHPx) in hepatic cytosol showed the tendency to be high with increasing P/S ratio of dietary lipids. SOD activity was not significantly influenced by antioxidant vitamin, but GSHPx activity was significantly increased in $\alpha$-tocopherol supplemented groups. In summary, high polyunsaturated fat diet was effective on reducing the serum level of total cholesterol and triglyceride, while it increased unsaturation and peroxidizability of serum fatty acid. With increasing P/S ratio of dietary lipids, lipid peroxidation was increased in the liver and antioxidant enzyme system was induced to inhibit lipid peroxidation against oxidative damage. $\alpha$-Tocopherol supplement was effective in lowering lipid peoxidation, but $\beta$-carotene supplement did not exhibit antioxidant effect.   • The effects of borax on the phase formation of C2S, C4A3 and $\alpha$'-C2S phases. It has negative effects on formation of C4A3 And it lowers the forming temperature of C4AF. It also has been found that borax improves the clinkerization of MBC. In the MBC clinker with borax 3% C2S have larger and more irregular shapes, larger C/S mole ratio and C4A3 have smaller size larger C/ molr ratio than in the clinker without borax.
