In order to evaluate the degradation organophosphorus pesticide, EPN, in water environment, the effects of water temp.(10$^{circ}C,\;30^{\circ}C$), pH(3-11) and sunlight on its degradation were investigated during 10 days. The degradation rate of EPN(200 rpm) was faster at higher water temp. and higher pH, i.e., its degradation rate at pH 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 was 57, 63, 66, 69, 75%(1$0^{\circ}C$), and 70, 74, 79, 91, 97%(3$0^{\circ}C$) after 10 days, respectively. The effect of water temp. on its degradation was little in acidic condition, but was rather great in alkaline condition, with time. EPN was degraded fast at the alkaline condition by photolysis. At the condition of pH 11, EPN was degraded fast at the early stage in the first 2 days, but after that the degradation rate was weakened.
This study was performed to survey on the prevalence of swine internal parasites at 12 piggeries being operated by the sawdust fermentative pigsty in Kyongnam central area. To investigate the effects of viability of eggs, larva and cysts, temperatures at the underlayer of the sawdust floor and rooms of pens were taken four times each season for one year. In a pig farms which have been operated by the sawdust fermentative pigsty, eggs of Ascar is suum(8.8%), Trichr is suis(18.3%), Oesophagostomum sp(9.4%), Strongyloides ransomi(1.3%), Hyostrongylus sp(3.8%) and Metastronylus apri(2.3%) were detected from 480 heads of Pigs. Cysts and oocysts of Coccidia(12.7%), Balantidium coli(5.4%) were also detected form 480 heads of pigs. The change of the temperature in the pig room was variable between $13^{\circ}C\; to\; 27^{\circ}C$ accord-ing to outside condition, whereas that in underfloor was consistently stable between $28^{\circ}C \;to\; 31^{\circ}C$ which was strictly suitable for the development of eggs, larva and cysts.
Indonesian coal-based activated carbon was manufactured with steam-reaction method. Also effects of carbonization temperature and steam amount on the process yield and quality of the product were investigated at the activation temperature of $900^{\circ}C$. The rotary kiln type furnace was used for both carbonization and activation and the optimum operation conditions were carbonization temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, steam amount of 2.7g steam/g char and activation temperature of $900^{\circ}C$. At this condition, the iodine value of activated carbon was 1,010 mg/g. Methylene Blue Adsorption Number was 230mg/g and B.E.T. surface area was $1,020m^2/g$ with the hardness about 97.

A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped bacterial strain, JC4T, was isolated from a freshwater sample and determined the taxonomic position. Initial identification based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain JC4T is affiliated to the genus Mucilaginibacter with a sequence similarity of 97.97% to Mucilaginibacter rigui WPCB133T. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain JC4T and Mucilaginibacter species were estimated below 80.92% and 23.9%, respectively. Strain JC4T contained summed feature 3 (C16:1 ω7c and/or C16:1 ω6c) and iso-C15:0 as predominant cellular fatty acids. The dominant polar lipids were identified as phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminophospholipid, one unidentified phospholipid, and two unidentified lipids. The respiratory quinone was MK-7. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain JC4T was determined to be 42.44%. The above polyphasic evidences support that strain JC4T represents a novel species of the genus Mucilaginibacter, for which the name Mucilaginibacter aquariorum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is JC4T (= KCTC 92230T = LMG 32715T).

This study was carried out to establish the optimum forest management plan for the Cryptomeria japonica plantations in southern inland and Jeju island in Korea. Sixty seven circular sample plots of 0.04ha were established and we surveyed vegetation structure and growth characteristics from three layers(upper, middle, and lower). As a result of cluster analysis obtained by importance values of each tree species, the community type of C. japonica stands were classified into C. japonica group(C1) and C. japonica-C obtusa group. C. obtusa community were also sbudivided into P. thunbergii-Q. serrata group(C2) and Q. serrata-C obtusa group(C3). In tree layers importance value(IV) of C. japonica were 97.2% in C1, 80.7% in C2, and 47.6% in C3 and in sub-tree layers IV were 8.9% in C1, 15.2% in C2, and 5.7% in C3. Especially in C3 there are bamboo species (Smilacina japonica var. lutecarpa and Pseudosasa japonica) it is necessary for us to control them. In shrub layers C. japonica were found in C1(9.2%) and C2(7.0%), but except for C3. In tree layer species diversity indices of each community ranged from the lowest 0.059 in C1 to the highest 0.548 in C3. Dominance ranged from 0.958 in C1 to 0.393 in C3 which may caused by interspecific competition. Current annual increment of diameter growth ranged from 7.01mm/yr to 8.04mm/yr. As a result of our study we recommend the application of proper thinning and pruning for C1 and C2.

To monitor newly emerged influenza virus variants and to investigate the prevalence pattern, our laboratory performed isolation of the viruses from surveillance sentinel hospitals. In the present study, we analysed influenza A/H1N1, A/H3N2, B viruses isolated in Busan during the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons by sequence analysis of the hemagglutinin (HA1 subunit) and neuraminidase (NA) genes. The isolates studied here were selected by the stratified random sample method from a total of 277 isolates, in which 15 were A/H1N1, 16 were A/H3N2 and 29 were B. Based on the phylogenetic tree, the HA1 gene showed that A/H1N1 isolates had a 96.7% to 97.7% homology with the A/Brisbane/59/2007, A/H3N2 isolates had a 98.4% to 99.7% homology with the A/Brisbane/10/2007, and B isolates had a 96.5% to 99.7% homology with the B/Florida/4/2006(Yamagata lineage), which are all the vaccine strains for the Northern Hemisphere in 2008~2009 season. In the case of the NA gene, A/H1N1 isolates had 97.8% to 98.5% homologies, A/H3N2 isolates had 98.9% to 99.4% homologies, and B isolates had 98.9% to 100% homologies with each vaccine strain in the 2008~2009 season, respectively. Characterization of the hemagglutinin gene revealed that amino acids at the receptor-binding site and N-linked glycosylation site were highly conserved. These results provide useful information for the control of influenza viruses in Busan and for a better understanding of vaccine strain selection.
A cross-sectional epidemiologic study was conducted to evaluate vitamin C nutritional status by assessing dietary intake and blood vitamin C level and to identify the relationships between dietary vitamin C intake, serum vitamin C level and blood lead level in Korean lead workers. The study population was 118 lead workers from two battery manufacturing factories and 63 non-lead-exposed controls. A food consumption survey was conducted by the 24-hr recall method to determine the dietary vitamin C intake level. The anthropometric measurements, blood collection, and survey were performed between September and November, 2000. Blood lead levels and serum vitamin C levels were measured using an atomic absorption spectrometer and high performance liquid chromatography, respectively. Vitamin C nutritional status of Korean lead workers was lower than that of the control group, in terms of both dietary intake and the biochemical index: the mean daily dietary intake level of vitamin C of lead workers was 65.9mg (94% RDA), while that of controls was 132.6mg(189% RDA) ; and the serum vitamin C status of lead workers (0.10mg/dl) was significantly lower than that of controls (1.08mg/dl ; p<0.001). Both dietary vitamin C intake and serum vitamin C levels showed a significant negative correlation with blood lead level (p<0.001), which indicates that strategies of dietary management to promote the health of Korean lead workers should focus on promoting the vitamin C intakes of individuals.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence and radiographic characteristics of the nuchal ligament ossification on lateral cephalometric radiographs in Koreans. Subjects and Method: I review and interpreted the lateral cephalometric radiographs from 4,558 patients (1,857 males and 2,701 females, age range from 2 to 79 years) who visited the Kyungpook National University Dental Hospital from January 1, 2008 to February 3, 2009. I grouped the shapes of nuchal ligament ossification as round, rod-like, and segmented shape. And localized the ossification as the involvement of anterior cervical vertebral body. The data were analyzed by using chi-squared test with two-tailed and at a 5% significance level. Results: Among those who showed the nuchal ligament ossification, he mean age of the 143 males was 51.1 and that of the 97 females was 48.0 years. It as not observed completely below teens, and was observed 1% in twenties, 6.1% in thirties, 18.6% in forties, and 26.3% over fifties. It was significantly prevalent in older age group (P<0.01) and in males than females among the same age group (P<0.05). The shapes of nuchal ligament ossification were as follows in order of frequency: rod-like (49.2%), round (30.4%), and segmented (20.4%). The highest involvement of ossification as found at the level of C5 (67.9%), C4 (29.2%), C6 (22.9%), C3 (3.3%), C7 (2.9%), C2 (0.8%), and C1 (0.4%). Conclusion: The nuchal ligament ossifications on lateral cephalometric radiographs were showed as round, rod-like, or segmented shape. The nuchal ligament ossification is often observed after the age of 40 and is observed more frequently in males than females. The highest shape of nuchal ligament ossification was rod-like shape and the highest involvement of cervical spine was C5.
$Ce_{0.8}Gd_{0.2}O_{1.9}$(GDC20) powder was prepared from a mixture of submicron-sized $CeO_2$ powder and Gd precipitates using ammonium carbonate $((NH_4)_2CO_3)$ as a precipitant. The mixture was calcined at $700^{\circ}C$ for 4 h followed by ball-milling that resulted in the GDC powder with an average particle size of $0.46{\mu}m$. The powder had a very uniform particle size distribution with particle sizes ranging from $0.3{\mu}m$ to $1{\mu}m$. Sintering of undoped GDC samples did not show a relative density of 99.2% until the temperature was increased to $1500^{\circ}C$, whereas GDC samples doped with 5 mol% CoO exhibited a significant densification at lower temperature reaching a relative density of 97.6% at $1100^{\circ}C$ and of 98.8% at $1200^{\circ}C$.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid is a precursor of nylon-4, which is a promising heat-resistant biopolymer. GABA can be produced from the decarboxylation of glutamate by glutamate decarboxylase. In this study, a synthetic scaffold complex strategy was employed involving the Neurospora crassa glutamate decarboxylase (GadB) and Escherichia coli GABA antiporter (GadC) to improve GABA production. To construct the complex, the SH3 domain was attached to the N. crassa GadB, and the SH3 ligand was attached to the N-terminus, middle, and C-terminus of E. coli GadC. In the C-terminus model, 5.8 g/l of GABA concentration was obtained from 10 g/l glutamate. When a competing pathway engineered strain was used, the final GABA concentration was further increased to 5.94 g/l, which corresponds to 97.5% of GABA yield. With the introduction of the scaffold complex, the GABA productivity increased by 2.9 folds during the initial culture period.
