  • The bit error probability of UWB Time-Hopping(TH) multiple access communication systems combined with BPSK is calculated with a high accuracy including the multiple user interference(MUI). This paper finds that with some manipulations, the TH-BPSK UWB signal can be modified to the similar form of the DS-CDMA signal. The MUI in the system is explained by the characteristic function technique. Above two descriptions have been bases on the derivation of the exact BER expression of the system. We also propose the approximate expression for the BER, which has enough accuracy compared with the expression from the Gaussian approximation of the MUI. The comparison of the results from the proposed expressions with the simulation results gives the confirmation for the validity and accuracy of the proposed expressions.

  • Atmospheric effects on laser beam propagation can be broken down into two categories: attenuation of the laser power and fluctuation of laser power due to laser beam deformation. Attenuation consists of scattering of the laser light photons by the fog. Laser beam deformation occurs because of small-scale dynamic changes in the index of refraction of the atmosphere. This causes pointing error. In order to analyse these effect on optical wireless communication system, in this paper uses cassegrain optics as a transmitting and receiving telescope, AID as a detecting device and ill as a light source. The signal modulating and demodulating method is a IM/DD. I show the effects of fog and pointing error and calculate the possible communication distance for BER is $10^{-9}$.

  • In mobile communication, the performance of QAM technique is poor under deep fading even though Rayleigh channel characteristics are estimated and compensated. In this paper, we analyze the performance of 3/4 Trellis coded 16QAM in Rayleigh channel where burst errors are randomized by bit reversal block interleaver, and TCM coder is designed by computer search to be adequate for Rayleigh channel. The simulation results show that the interleaver has 2dB gain, the modified Viterbi decoder has 2.5dB, and diversity has 9dB gain at $P_{b}b/=10^{-3}$. This indicates that the 3/4 TC 16QAM is applicable to digital mobile communication with good performance.

  • In this paper we present a low area 12-bit SAR ADC (Successive Approximation Register Analog-to-Digital Converter). The proposed circuit is fabricated using Magnachip/SK Hynix 1-Poly 6-Metal $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and it is powered by a 1.8-V supply. Total chip area is reduced by replacing the MIM capacitors with MOS capacitors instead of the capacitors consisting of overall part in chip area. The proposed circuit showed improved power dissipation of 1.9mW, and chip area of $0.45mm^2$ as compared to conventional research results at the power supply of 1.8V. The designed circuit also showed high SNDR (Signal-to-Noise Distortion Ratio) of 70.51dB, and excellent effective number of bits of 11.4bits.

  • This paper describes the details of ITU-T SGIS G.729A speech coder implementation using ARM9 Thumb/sup R/ processor core and various techniques used in the optimization process. ITU-T G.729 speech coder is the standard of the toll quality 8 kbit/s speech coding. The input to the speech encoder is assumed to be a 16 bits PCM signal at a sampling rate of 8000 samples per second. G.729A is reduced complexity version of the G.729 coder. This version is bit stream interoperable with the full version. The implemented coder requires 34.8 MIPS for the encoder and 8.1 MIPS for the decoder, 36.5 kBytes of program ROM and 6.3 kBytes of data RAM, respectively. The implemented coder is tested against the set of 9 test vectors provided by ITU-T for bit exact implementation.

  • ATM techniques ar ewidely accepted as a key transport mechanism infiber-based broadband network. However, to keep pace with the rpid emerging wireless high speed market, it is desirable to verify the reliability & daptability of ATM protocol on high error environment. This paper investigates the various ATM cell transfer characteristics over air interface. Though simulation, we analyze their usabilities of HeC mechanism and single-bit error correction algorithm based on ITU-T recommendation. We propose some methods for cell transport improvement over errored environment and investigate their performance for suggested schemes.

  • With the rapid development of multimedia applications and wireless communication networks, consumer demand for video-over-wireless capability on mobile computing systems is growing rapidly. In this regard, this paper introduces YUV-aware instructions that enhance the performance and efficiency in the processing of color image and video. Traditional multimedia extensions (e.g., MMX, SSE, VIS, and AltiVec) depend solely on generic subword parallelism whereas the proposed YUV-aware instructions support parallel operations on two-packed 16-bit YUV (6-bit Y, 5-bits U, V) values in a 32-bit datapath architecture, providing greater concurrency and efficiency for color image and video processing. Moreover, the ability to reduce data format size reduces system cost. Experiment results on a representative dynamically scheduled embedded superscalar processor show that YUV-aware instructions achieve an average speedup of 3.9x over the baseline superscalar performance. This is in contrast to MMX (a representative Intel#s multimedia extension), which achieves a speedup of only 2.1x over the same baseline superscalar processor. In addition, YUV-aware instructions outperform MMX instructions in energy reduction (75.8% reduction with YUV-aware instructions, but only 54.8% reduction with MMX instructions over the baseline).

  • This paper presents the results of a sea trial for very long range spread spectrum underwater acoustic communication conducted in the East Sea in September 2021. Signals were collected through 8 vertical sensors, and the range between the transmitter and receiver was about 160 km. 30 bps Multi-Code Spread Spectrum (MCSS) method and 100 bps Chirp Spread Spectrum method were used for the transmitting signal generation. The results show that when the channel coding technique was not used in a single channel, the uncoded bit error rate was high, but when the Equal Gain Combining (EGC) diversity technique was used after frame synchronization in each receiving channel, the uncoded bit error rate was reduced to 0.1 or less.
