Objectives: This study aims to find out the association between Sasang and Eight Constitution by analyzing Sasang and Eight Constitution Diagnosis results. Methods: We analyzed Sasang and Eight Constitution Diagnosis results according to confidence, by reviewing medical records of 247 patients retrospectively whose Sasang and Eight constitutions were diagnosed by two independent specialists. We used chi-square test and Cramer Statistic to know association of two diagnosis results. Results and Conclusions: Taeumin was 49.8% in Jupita, Soeumin 65.2% in Mercuria, Soyangin 90.9% in Saturna, Taeumin was 54.2% in Jupita, Soeumin 83.4% in Mercuria, Soyangin 100% in Saturna in condition that Sasang and Eight Constitution diagnosis confidence is over Band 50 score. The higher diagnosis confidence is, also the higher association between Sasang and Eight Constitution is up to 0.414(Cramer Statistic). There is association between Sasang and Eight Constitution.

1. Objectives This study integrates and studied variable of Questionnaire for doctors and Questionnaire for patients. After, found extremely useful variable. 2. Methods Through the medium of statistical method and advice of the Department of Sasang Constitution Medicine specialist, found extremely useful variable. 3. Results and Conclusions 1) Through the medium of statistical method (STEPDISC, DISCRIM), The variable which is selected lastly above once from 36 taxon, In the Questionaire for doctors Taeyang items is 18, Soyang items is 16, Taeumin items is 21, Soeumin items is 20. In the Question patients Taeyang items is 50, Soyang items is 53, Taeumin items is 63, Soeumin items is 64. 2) The variable which got above 25 from the Department of Sasang Constitution Medicine specialist, In the Questionaire for doctors Taeyang items is 5, Soyang items is 8, Taeumin items is 7, Soeumin items is 12. items is 32. 3) The variable which got above 25 from the Department of Sasang Constitution Medicine specialist and got above 3 the selection frequency, the Questionaire for doctors Taeyang items is 4, Soyang items is 4, Taeumin items is 5, Soeumin items is 8. In the Questionaire for patients Taeyang items is 10, Soyang items is 17, Taeumin items is 24, Soeumin items is 23.

Background and purpose: The purpose of this study is to search recognition patients in Eight constitution Oriental Medical Clinic. And we compare Eight constitution acupuncture methods with the another acupuncture methods. Methods: The subjects were comprised of 200 volunteers. In 3 Eight constitution Oriental Medical Clinic participants were chosen through questionnaire. Finishing answer participants put in their lacked name questionnaire to gathering box. DecisionTree (AnswerTree 3.0 Ver.) statistical software was used for statistical analysis. Results and Conclusion: As a result of the analysis of cognition to Eight constitution acupuncture methods was influenced to patients health, dietetic therapy is best influenced. Next influenced acupuncture reflex degree, age, job, constitution, cure periods, sex distinction, cure degree, diagnosed participant's Constitution by pulse diagnosis in 8 Constitution Medicine.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the usefulness of some iris parameters in predicting the 8 constitution Methods: From November 2012 to February 2018, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 171 patients who were visited to the Korean Oriental Clinic. We conducted a stepwise binary logistic regression analysis to find the association between Iris parameters and 8 constitutional Medicine. Results: Automic Nerve Wreath Ration (ANWR) was larger and toxic radii was longer in Earth and Wood constitutions than Metal and water constitution. ANWR was larger and pupil are ratio(PAR) was smaller in Wood constitutions than Earth constitutions. And others did not show significant results. Conclusions: This study suggests that the relationship between some of the iris parameters and 8 constitution was significant, but more accurate follow-up study is needed.

Objective: This study was designed to compared the effect of general acupuncture on degenerative arthritis of knee joint with 8 constitution acupuncture by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Methods: VAS was used for this research, with the pain indicator of 10 and 0 which represents a pain of first visit and a status of no pain respectively. Two groups, consisting of 40 patients, was randomly allocated for this research. SPSS(Statistic Program for Social Science) 10.0 for window was used for a statistical analysis. Independent T-test and Mann Whitney U test was performed to evaluate the improvement of each group by the treatment number and to compare that of two groups. Results: As a result of the comparison analysis between two groups after 20th treatment, the improvement of subjective symptoms in 8 constitution acupuncture group was shown more effective than that in general acupuncture group, while, After 10th treatment, there was no significant difference between two groups in VAS. Conclusion: It is suggested that the effect of 8 constitution acupuncture should be significantly different from that of general acupuncture on degenerative arthritis of knee joint. Further study is needed to confirm the effectiveness of 8 constitution acupuncture.

Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the relationship between Sasang Constitution and length of chest and abdomen region. Methods : Forty eight participants were enrolled. Weight, height, and lengths from CV22 to CV16, from CV16 to CV8, and from CV8 to CV2 were measured. Ratios of last three lengths to total CV22 to CV2 were calculated respectively. On the other hand, Sasang Constitution was analyzed with QSCCII(Questionnaire of Sasang Constitutional Classification II). The analysis of relationship between the measurements and Sasang Constitution was carried out with SPSS to compare the mean values according to Sasang Constitution. Results : All the mean values were not significantly different depending on the Sasang Constitution, except the ratio of the length from CV16 to CV8 to the length from CV22 to CV2, only in female participants. The ratio was higher in the female Soeumin participants than any other constitutional groups. Conclusions : This result showed that Soeumin could be assumed that they might have weak digestion abilities.

Objective : This study was designed to compared with the effect of body acupuncture and 8 constitution acupuncture by pain Disability Index(PDI) and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Methods : Body acupuncture group consists of 10 patients and 8 Constitution acupuncture group consists of 10 patients. The degree of improvement was evaluated by PDI and VAS after 2 weeks treatment. PDI consists of seven items and they are scored as 10 points per each item. Results : After 2 weeks treatment there was no significant difference between the two groups in PDI scores, each PDI item's score and VAS score. Conclusions : The effect of 8 constitution acupuncture is not statistically different form that of body acupuncture on neck pain. Further study is needed about the effectiveness of 8 constitution acupuncture.

Background : Eight-Constitution Medicine (ECM) devides the human body into eight constitutions. Up until now, checking the pulse types is only way to classify the eight constitution. Recently we try to make a questionnaire that is based on the Eight-Constitution characters and analyze the answer from patients who were classified into one of the eight constitutions according to their pulse types and their responses to constitution-acupuncture therapy. Objective : This study intends to analyze each answer of the Eight-Constitution Questionnaire with independent sample t-test. Methods : Participants of this study were outpatients in ECM clinics located in Korea. The resources were collected from 925 patients who were classified into one of the eight constitutions according to their pulse types and their responses to constitution-acupuncture therapy. SPSS 13.0 for Windows was used for independent sample t-test. Results and Conclusions : 1. The proportion of participants' constitutions is in the order of Pancreotonia (28.0%), Colonotonia (17.3%), Pulmotonia (18.1%), Hepatonia (18.1%), Vesicotonia (8.5%), Cholecystotonia (7.0%), Renotonia (2.6%) and Gastrotonia (0.4%). 2. Eight-Constitution Questionnaire consists of 5 parts; Appearance, Character, Body reaction, Physiology & Pathology and Food reaction. 3. 18 items were chosen among 81 question about Character. 4. Due to the deficiency of Gastrotonia examples, useful items have to be given up. If we can gather Gastrotonia examples, we can use meaningful items more than 18.

Objectives: Eight constitution medicine (ECM), which was first introduced in 1965, has been further developed and refined over the decades, and has consolidated its foundation through many studies on theories, diagnosis and clinical application. However, there have been few reviews on dissertations of ECM. In this study, we reviewed previously published studies related to ECM. Methods: We reviewed a total of 55 ECM-related studies published from 1965 to 2010 found on PubMed and various domestic Oriental medicine journals. Each thesis was classified as a theoretical, diagnostic, or remedy-related study. Results: 1. In the review of theoretical studies, shortly after ECM's introduction in 1965 by Kwon, the authors found studies on constitutional diseases, diets and food table which helped establish the background of ECM. ECM has further developed by comparing its theories with Sasang constitutional medicine, Huang-di-nei-jing, Saam, and Taegeuk acupuncture theories. 2. Research on diagnosis has been focused on its objectivity and accuracy. Constitution could be diagnosed by pulse-taking. To compensate for the lack of accuracy innate in pulse-taking, the Eight Constitution Questionnaire has been invented. 3. Remedies can be largely divided into acupuncture and diet. There were case studies comparing treatment effect of ECM acupuncture to other treatments. Diet related studies were carried out in the fields of immunology and nutrition. Conclusions: The authors reviewed studies that contributed to improved understanding of theories and clinical implications of ECM. Although there were various approaches to its theoretical and clinical grounds, more clinical research is needed. There is also a need to evaluate the accuracy of the experts' diagnoses of the constitution. The relationship between the diet and constitution also needs further research.

Objectives This study was implemented to investigate the distribution of Sasang constitution and prescription of the patients with coldness in hands and feet.Methods Sixteen patients with coldness were analyzed in terms of age, Sasang constitution, season and prescriptions.Results The distribution of Sasang constitution of the patients with coldness in hands and feet was like Taeeumin 50%, Soeumin 43.8% and Soyangin 6.2%. And the date of consultation of the patients is different seasonally, 50% of the patients visited in winter, 18.8% in spring and fall respectively and 6.3% in summer. The frequency by age group is different was like 31.3% of the patients visited in 20s, 18.8% in 10s, 30s and 50s, 12.5% in 40s. In terms of Exterior and Interior diseases, Soyanging and Soeumin patients were categorized in Interior diseases while Taeeumin patients were categorized in Exterior disease.Conclusions Patients with coldness in hands and feet were mostly classified into Taeeumin and Soeumin and the prevalence of its symptom was high in their 20s. Patients were willing to visit clinics in winter. The Exterior/Interior diseases and mild/severe diseases were different according to Sasang constitution.
