  • In this paper, the 30 W power amplifier for an IMT-2000 repeater was developed a gain flatness and the third IMD (Intermodulation distortion) by microwave absorber. The absorption ability of the absorber is shown up to -10 dB and -4 dB at 3.6 GHz, 2.3 GHz band, respectively. The power amplifier without absorber has the gain over 57 dB, the gain flatness of $\pm$0.33 dB and the third IMD of 27 dBc at 33.3 W output. Otherwise, the power amplifier with absorber has the gain over 58 dB, the gain flatness of less than $\pm$0.9, the third IMD over 29 dBc at the same output power. As a result, the characteristic of the different type shows improvement of 1 dB in gain, 0.3 dB in gain flatness and 1.77 dBc in IMD.

  • In this parer, a wideband low-noise amplifier (LNA) has been realized in a 0.18mm CMOS technology for the applications of subsampling direct-conversion RF receivers. By exploiting the inverter-type transimpedance input stage with a 3rd-order Chebyshev matching network, the wideband LNA demonstrates the measured results of the -3dB bandwidth of 5.35GHz, the power gain (S21) of $12\sim18dB$, the noise figure (NF) of $6.9\sim10.8dB$, and the broadband input/output impedance matching of less than -10dB/-24dB within the bandwidth, respectively. The chip dissipates 32.4mW from a single 1.8V supply, and occupies the area of $0.56\times1.0mm^2$.

  • This paper presents a wideband low noise amplifier (LNA) that is suitable for LTE-Advanced and 5G communication standards employing carrier aggregation (CA). The proposed LNA encompasses a common input stage and a dual output second stage with a buffer at each distinct output. This architecture is targeted to operate in both intra-band (contiguous and non-contiguous) and inter-band CA. In the proposed design, the input and second stages employ a gm enhancement with resistive feedback technique to achieve self-biasing, enhanced gain, wide bandwidth as well as reduced noise figure of the proposed LNA. An up/down power controller controls the single input single out (SISO) and single input multiple outputs (SIMO) modes of operation for inter-band and intra-band operations. The proposed LNA is designed with a 45nm CMOS technology. For SISO mode of operation, the LNA operates from 0.52GHz to 4.29GHz with a maximum power gain of 17.77dB, 2.88dB minimum noise figure and input (output) matching performance better than -10dB. For SIMO mode of operation, the proposed LNA operates from 0.52GHz to 4.44GHz with a maximum voltage gain of 18.30dB, a minimum noise figure of 2.82dB with equally good matching performance. An $IIP_3$ value of -6.7dBm is achieved in both SISO and SIMO operations. with a maximum current of 42mA consumed (LNA+buffer in SIMO operation) from a 1.2V supply.

  • In this paper, we propese a novel wide band printed monopole antenna called the staircase bow-tie monopole antenna (SBMA). We apply an extraordinarr method for an impedance matching to conventional bow-tie monopoles. So we get the SBMA with a very wide band. Our antenna is smaller than a quarter wavelength in size but provides a 2:1 VSWR bandwidth of about 77.8%. An antenna gain and a radiation pattern are about 1.7dBi and omni-directional at 1.7 GHz, respeotively.

  • Recently, metamaterials attracted much attention because of the potential applications for superlens, cloaking and high precision sensors. We developed several dielectric metamaterials for enhancing antireflection or light trapping capability in solar energy harvesting devices. Colloidal lithography and electrochemical anodization process were employed to fabricate self-assembed nano- and microscale dielectric metamaterials in a simple and cost-effective manner. We improved broadband light absorption in c-Si, a-Si, and organic semiconductor layer by employing polystyrene (PS) islands integrated Si conical-frustum arrays, resonant PS nanosphere arrays, and diffusive alumina nanowire arrays, respectively. We also demonstrated thin metal coated alumina nanowire array which is utilized as an efficient light-to-heat conversion layer of solar steam generating devices. The scalable design and adaptable fabrication route to our light management nanostructures will be promising in applications of solar energy harvesting system. On the other hands, broadband invisible cloaks, which continuously work while elastically deforming, are developed using smart metamaterials made of photonic and elastic crystals. A self-adjustable, nearly lossless, and broadband (10-12GHz) smart meatamaterials have great potentials for applications in antenna system and military stealth technology.

  • This paper presents a single-pole eight-throw(SP8T) switch based on proposed a radio-frequency(RF) microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) switches. The proposed switch was driven by a double stop(DS) comb drive, with a lateral resistive contact. Additionally, the proposed switch was designed to have tapered signal line and bi-directionally actuated. A forward actuation connects between signal lines and contact part, and the output becomes on-state. A reverse actuation connects between ground lines and contact part, and the output becomes off-state. The SP8T switch of 3-stage tree topology was developed based on an arrangement of the proposed RF MEMS switches. The developed SP8T switch had an actuation voltage of 12 V, an insertion loss of 1.3 dB, a return loss of 15.1 dB, and an isolation of 31.4 dB at 6 GHz.

  • In this paper, a novel voltage-controlled oscillator(VCO) using the metamaterial broadside coupled spiral resonators(BC-DSRs) is presented for reducing the phase noise. For reducing of the phase noise, the series spiral structures have been applied for the signal plane and ground plane at each in order to have the large coupling. Compared with the conventional VCO, the proposed VCO has the larger coupling coefficient constant, which makes a higher Q-factor and has reduced the phase noise of the VCO. The proposed VCO has the phase noise of $-121{\sim}-117.16\;dBc$/Hz at 100 kHz in the tuning range, $5.749{\sim}5.853\;GHz$. The figure of merit(FOM) of this VCO is $-198.45{\sim}-194.77\;dBc$/Hz at 100 Hz in the same tuning range, respectively.

  • In this paper, the EM wave absorber was designed and fabricated for the collision-avoidance radar as a basic sensor of ITS(Intelligence Transport System), because radar system has some problems including false image and system-to-system interference. We fabricated some samples in different composition ratio of Carbon and CPE, and defined that optimum composition ratio of Carbon and CPE was 20:80 wt%. The complex relative permittivity was calculated by the measured data. And absorption abilities were simulated according to different thickness of the EM wave absorbers using the complex relative permittivity. The EM wave absorber was manufactured based on the simulated design. Simulated and measured results agree very well. As a result, the developed EM wave absorber with the thickness of 2 mm has absorption ability over 20 dB in frequency range of $76{\sim}77$ GHz.
