  • A haptic hand controller (HHC) operated by the user’s hand can receive information on position and orientation of the hand and display force and moment generated in the virtual environment to the hand. In this paper, a 3-DOF hand controller is first presented, in which all the actuators are mounted on the fixed base by combining a 5-bar linkage and a gimbal mechanism. The 6-DOF HHC is then designed by connecting these two 3-DOF devices through a handle which consists of a screw and nut. Analysis using performance index is carried out to determine the dimensions of the device. The HHC control system consists of the high-level controller for kinematic and static analysis and the low-level controller for position sensing and motor control. The HHC used as a user interface to control the mobile robot in the virtual environment is given as a simple application.

  • To estimate structural displacement, a visually servoed paired structured light system (ViSP) was proposed in previous studies. The ViSP is composed of two sides facing each other, each with one or two laser pointers, a 2-DOF manipulator, a camera, and a screen. By calculating the positions of the laser beams projected onto the screens and rotation angles of the manipulators, relative 6-DOF displacement between two sides can be estimated. Although the performance of the system has been verified through various simulations and experimental tests, it has a limitation that the accuracy of the displacement measurement depends on the alignment of the laser pointers. In deriving the kinematic equation of the ViSP, the laser pointers were assumed to be installed perfectly normal to the same side screen. In reality, however, this is very difficult to achieve due to installation errors. In other words, the pose of laser pointers should be calibrated carefully before measuring the displacement. To calibrate the initial pose of the laser pointers, a specially designed jig device is made and employed. Experimental tests have been performed to validate the performance of the proposed calibration method and the results show that the estimated displacement with the initial pose calibration increases the accuracy of the 6-DOF displacement estimation.

  • This paper presents a new formulation approach to reduce computational burden of the direct kinematics of 6-dof haptic devices with three sets of a parallel-serial linkage. Their direct kinematics has been formulated through employing the Denavit-Hartenberg notation, which results in complicated formulation procedures and heavy computational burden. For reducing these problems, this paper reconfigures the haptic devices into an equivalent kinematic model of the 3-6 Stewart-Gough Platform that has three connecting joints on the moving platform. Moreover, the direct kinematics of the 3-6 Platform can be effectively formulated by using the proposed Tetrahedron Approach.

  • In general, the attitude of a high-speed planning boat changes following a speed change. Since the hydrodynamic forces acting on a ship differ according to the change of its underwater shape, it is difficult to estimate its hydrodynamic force compared to that of a large commercial ship. In this paper, 6 Degrees Of Freedom (DOF) equations of motion that express the maneuvering motion of a planning boat are modeled by analyzing its motion characteristics based on various sea trial tests. Finally, a maneuvering simulation is carried out and a validation of the equations of motion is confirmed with the results of sea trial tests.

  • This paper proposes a sliding mode controller with fuzzy adaptive perturbation compensator(FAPC) to get a good control performance and reduce the chatter, The proposed algorithm can reduce the chattering because the proposed fuzzy adaptive perturbation compensator compensates the perturbation terms. The compensator computes the control input for compensating unmodeled dynamic terms and disturbance by using the observer-based fuzzy adaptive network(FAN) The weighting parameters of the compensate. are updated by on-line adaptive scheme in order to minimize the estimation error and the estimation velocity error of each actuator. Therefore, the combination of sliding mode control and fuzzy adaptive network gives the robust and intelligent routine to get a good control performance. To evaluate the control performance of the proposed approach, tracking control is experimentally carried out for the hydraulic motion platform which consists of a 6-DOF parallel manipulator.

  • A sensor modeling via artificial neural network is presented in this paper. The optical sensor has been designed to treasure absolute 3-dimensional positions and orientations of objects in 6-DOF. The method utilizes a triangular pyramidal mirror having an equilateral cross-sectional shape referred as 3-facet mirror. The mirror has three lateral reflective surfaces inclined 45 degrees to its bottom surface. The 3-facet mirror is mounted on the object whose 6-DOF motion is to be measured. As optical components, a He-Ne laser source and three position-sensitive detectors(PSD) are used. The laser beam is emitted from the He-Ne laser source located at the upright position and vertically incident o...

  • The purpose of robot manipulator control is to make for manipulator take a trace of pre-planned trajectory. In this study, the algorithm of MRAC(Model Reference Adaptive Control) on reference to adaptive control theory was studied. The experiments were performed on 6-DOF robot manipulator with respect to p-d(proportional-differential) controller and adaptive controller. The property of adaptive control was studied and its efficiency proved by being compared to p-d controller.

  • In this paper, kinematic structure of parallel manipulator having 6-DOF is determined to follow the specific trajectory represented by several curves expressed by the parametric variable functions. In addition, the parallel manipulator is designed to have a high dexterity by considering a kinematic isotropy which can stabilize the motion of the moving platform in the restricted workspace.

  • This paper propose the implementation of robust fuzzy controller for controlling an active magnetic bearing (AMB) system with 6 degree of freedom (DOF). A basic model with 6 DOF rotor dynamics and electromagnetic force equations for conical magnetic bearings is proposed. The developed model has severe nonlinearity and uncertainty so that it is not easy to obtain the control objective. For solving this problem, we use the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model which is suitable for designing fuzzy controller. The control object in the AMB system enables the rotor to rotate without any phsical contact by using magnetic force. In this paper, we analyze the nonlinearity of the active magnetic bearing system by using fuzzy control algorithm and desing the robust control algorithm for solving the parameter variation. Simulation results for AMB are demonstrated to visualize the feasibility of the proposed method.
