Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of NXP031, an inhibitor of oxidation by specifically binding to the complex of DNA aptamer/vitamin C, on dopaminergic neurons loss and the reaction of microglia in an animal model of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced subchronic Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: A subchronic PD mouse model was induced via an intraperitoneal (IP) injection of MPTP 30 mg/kg per day for five days. NXP031 (vitamin C/aptamer at 200 mg/4 mg/kg) and vitamin C at 200 mg/kg were administered via IP injections at one hour after performing MPTP injection. This process was performed for five days. Motor function was then evaluated with pole and rotarod tests, after which an immunohistochemical analysis was performed. Results: NXP031 administration after MPTP injection significantly improved motor functions (via both pole and rotarod tests) compared to the control (MPTP injection only) (p<.001). NXP031 alleviated the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) and striatum caused by MPTP injection. It was found to have a neuroprotective effect by reducing microglia activity. Conclusion: NXP031 can improve impaired motor function, showing neuroprotective effects on dopaminergic neurons in the SN and striatum of MPTP-induced subchronic Parkinson's disease mouse model. Results of this study suggest that NXP031 has potential in future treatments for PD and interventions for nerve recovery.
The purpose of this study is to examine elementary students' conceptions of magnetic fields around various magnets by drawing tasks. A total of 105 elementary students from the 3rd and 6th grade levels were asked to draw how iron filings would arrange around magnets. We classified their drawings of magnetic field lines with some criteria to identify conceptions of magnetic forces and checked them through interviewing about their representative drawing. Through analyzing drawings, we discovered that 40% of elementary students drew the correct arrangement of iron filings around a bar magnet. In the case of two bar magnets in opposite directions, 33% of them drew correct patterns of iron dust and around two magnets in the same direction only 20% did well. Only 2.9% and 7.6% of students presented the correct drawings of magnetic fields near a disc and a horseshoe magnet. While 3rd grade students were supposed to be poor in drawings of magnetic fields around a loose and a dense coil which was not learned about, only 31% and 23% of 6th grade students who have just studied electromagnetism properly drew patterns of iron dust. This shows that only one quarter of students understood the magnetic filed lines even after instruction of electromagnetism. Many of 6th grade students learned a solenoid becomes just as a permanent magnet, but very few of them correctly drew a magnetic field line could distinguish between the iron dust around a loose and dense coil. After interviewing students, it is found that students consider magnetic forces to be existed only in parts of magnet because many of them drew magnetic field line of a specific areas around magnets. Students had misconceptions that magnetic forces exist only on the poles not in the middle around a horseshoe magnet. Also the disc-shape magnet made students to reveal various types of misconceptions: N- and S-poles are mixed in a whole magnet and right part of a disc-shape magnet is N-pole, left part is S-pole. Students who had not studied magnetic fields of around a magnet and electromagnets could not draw the correct patterns of iron dust suggest that it is indispensable for students to teach how patterns of iron filings would represent a visual image of magnetic fields in order to understand magnetic fields.
This study analyzes the materials and external characteristics of the Angbu-ilgu, a kind of scaphe sundial, which was newly designated as a Korean Treasure in 2022. The Angbu-ilgu Treasure is owned by three institutions - the National Palace Museum Of Korea, Gyeongju National Museum, and Sungshin Women's University Museum - and is similar as a twin in its material, size, outward appearance, as well as production techniques that include casting, silver inlays, and metal joints. The Three-Treasure Angbu-ilgu is made of brass in the ratio of 90.6: 6.0: 1.8 with Cu: Zn: Pb. This composition clearly differs from Treasure No. 845, an Angbuilgu which has a composition ratio of 82.2: 3.7: 11.8 with Cu: Zn: Pb. In this new Angbu-ilgu Treasure, the hemisphere's stand has four vertical pillars sculpted in a dragon pattern and bilateral wings carved in a cloud pattern on the pillars, which are joined to the hemisphere's horizontal ring with rivets and silver solders, respectively. The dragon-in-clouds pillar (雲龍柱) shows the most outstanding formative beauty of the various Angbu-ilgu pillars produced in the late Joseon Dynasty. It can be seen that the altitude of the north pole engraved on the Angbu-ilgu was made after 1713. Production is, however, actually estimated to have occurred close to the 19th century, the era of the Jinju Kang family, who were professional Angbuilgu makers. Hopefully, this study will lead to a historical science and technology review with modern scientific instruments analyzing the materials and external characteristics of the three Angbu-ilgus designated as a Korean Treasure in 2022.

This research surveyed the native resources which BiBo(replenishing shortages by helping each other) landscapes have been preserved by aiming at the village settlement spaces of five cities and counties in Gangwon Youngseo province. This research reveals that BiBo landscape patterns of 41 village forests, 23 BiBo symbols, and 6 BiBo ponds were surveyed. The village forests are all 41 places, and were mainly made on the plains in front of villages. BiBo functions of the forests were in the order of the land obstructing the view of the mouth of a river which is the most as 13 places, the land obstructing the view of the mouth of river, situation complements, village protection, and protection against wind. Bibo symbols were all 23 places. Towers, stone towers, menhirs, and Maitreya stones were 12 places, Jangseungs(a signpost raising on the entrance of the village or a temple) were 6 places, Sotdae(a pole raising at the entrance of the village as the symbol of a board or a village protecting deity) was 1 place, and the others were made multiply in 4 places. Bibo symbols were located at 21 places in front of villages. The village protection in Bibo functions was 6 places. 6 Bibo ponds were surveyed. Most Bibo ponds were made for earth power leakage prevention.

A new class of electronically commutated brushless motor, the flux-switching motor(FSM) is gradually emerging in power tools and household appliances especially fan and pump application because of green policy. This motor offers advantages of high-power density and relatively high efficiency compare with induction motor, low cost and simple motor structure compare with bldc motor. This paper presents the principle of the FSM and design of the 12/6 pole FSM drive system for fan application. Finally, test results of the prototype motor are provided to verify a validity of the fan application with TMS320F2812 DSP and inverter.

This paper describes the design of a high performance microwave single pole double throw (SPDT) monolithic microwave integrated circuit switch using GaAs pHEMT process. The switch design proposes a novel coplanar waveguide (CPW) impedance transform network which results in the low insertion loss and high isolation by compensating for the FET parasitics to get the low on-resistance and low off-capacitance. The proposed switch has the measured isolation of better than 24 dB and insertion loss of less than 2.6 dB from 53 to 61 GHz. The chip is fabricated with the size of 2.2mm $\times$ 1.6 mm.

This paper describes the design and analysis of vibration driven cylindric electromagnetic energy harvester. The proposed harvester consists with spring, coil and rear earth magnet. The design utilizes an electromagnetic transducer and its operating principle is based on the relative movement of a magnet pole with respect to a coil. In order to optimal design and analysis, ANSYS FEA (Finite Elements Analysis) and Matlab model were used to predict the magnetic filed density with vibration and the generated maximum output power with load resistance. The system was designed for 6 Hz of natural frequency and spring constant was 39.48 N/m between 2 mm and 6 mm of displacement in moving magnet. When moving magnet of system was oscillated, each model was obtained that induced voltage in the coil was generated 2.275 Vpp, 2.334 Vpp and 2.384 Vpp, respectively. Then maximum output powers of system at load resistance ($1303{\Omega}$) were generated $124.2{\sim}132.2\;{\mu}W$ during magnets input displacement of 3 mm and 6 Hz periodic oscillation.

In this study, a short-ended coupled line with a short-circuit stub transmission line bandpass filtering impedance transformer is presented. The general designed equations are derived on the basis of circuit theory. The design curves are provided to examine the characteristic of the proposed impedance transformer. The proposed circuit is suitable for high termination impedance. To validate the design formulas, a $400-50{\Omega}$ impedance transformer is designed and fabricated at the operating center frequency ($f_0$) of 2.6 GHz. The measured results show a good agreement with the simulation. The measured insertion and return losses are 0.6 dB and 22.5 dB at $f_0$, respectively. The measured return loss is higher than 20 dB within the passband frequency of 2.51-2.7 GHz. Moreover, the stopband attenuation is higher than 25 dB from DC to 1.64 GHz of the lower stopband and from 3.12 GHz to 6.4 GHz of the higher stopband.
The representative Cretaceous-Tertiary paleomagnetic poles of the Korean Peninsula have been obtained from primary remanences of unremagnetized rocks: $59.6^{\circ}N$, $194.7^{\circ}E$ for $K_{1M}$; $67.6^{\circ}N$, $207.7^{\circ}E$ for $K_{1L}$; $71.1^{\circ}N$, $215.2^{\circ}E$ for $K_2$; and $84.9^{\circ}N$, $292.6^{\circ}E$ for the Miocene. Chemical remanences of remagnetized rocks also yield Early Tertiary paleomagnetic pole ($83.9^{\circ}N$, $88.3^{\circ}E$). These paleopoles provide the tentative APWP of the Korean Peninsula since the Cretaceous, and suggest some tectonic interpretations as follows. The Korean Peninsula was located at similar latitude to the present position, and rotated clockwise with respect to the adjacent blocks during the Cretaceous. The Korean Peninsula experienced latitudinal movement during the Early Tertiary, which was possibly associated with the continental collision between India and Asia. The Korean Peninsula and Southwest Japan might be independent terrains during the Cretaceous based on the temporal discrepancies of the southward movements and the clockwise rotations of the two blocks with respect to Eurasia.

Because all of the short-circuit testing laboratories have the limitation of test facilities, the synthetic making test methods have been used to estimate the short-circuit making performance of the ultra high-voltage circuit breaker as the alternative to direct test methods. So, KERI(Korea Eelctrotechnology Research institute) has completed the construction of the synthetic making test facilities using the low capacity step-up transformer method which fulfill the requirements specified in newly revised IEC 62271-100 Edition 1.1(2003) and have the testing capability up to 550kV, 63kA full-pole circuit breaker. The test facilities using the low capacity step-up transformer method presented in this paper are made up of the unit equipments such as HCS(High-speed Closing Switch), ITMC(Initial Transient Making Current) circuit and UP TR(low capacity step-up transformer) and have the operating range of 17.6$^{\circ}$$\~$ 145.1$^{\circ}$ for testing the circuit breaker rated on up to 50kA and 43.1$^{\circ}$$\~$ 119.6$^{\circ}$ for more than 50kA.
