Antioxidant and Prolyl Endopeptidase Inhibitory Capacities of Chromone C-glucosides from the Clove Buds (Syzygium aromaticum)

  • Four chromone derivatives (1-4) were isolated from the clove buds (Syzygium aromaticum). Of these, two chromone C-glucosides (1 and 2) showed significant PEP inhibition with $IC_{50}$ values of $1.48{\pm}0.02$ and $1.74{\pm}0.03{\mu}M$ and $K_i$ values of $0.27{\pm}0.02$ and $0.50{\pm}0.05{\mu}M$, respectively. They also exhibited strong antioxidant capacities against the 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid diammonium salt radical system with $EC_{50}$ values of $4.13{\pm}0.04$ and $4.79{\pm}0.03{\mu}M$, respectively.

  • Using water vapor adsorption data foe some typical Korean soils. we calculated the adsorption energy distribution functions and average adsorption energies for these soils using theory of adsorption on hetergeneous surfaces. As a local adsorption models the BET and a new Aranovich equations were applied. The distribution functions were broad, indicating rather high energetic inhomogeneity of the surface.

Production of Pleurotus spp. Mycelium Using Rancid Frying Oils (산패유를 이용한 느타리버섯 균사체의 생산)

  • Conditions for the culture of Pleurotus spp. mycelium using rancid frying oils were investigated. Among the six strains tested, Pleurotus ostreatus CBS 03 showed the greatest mycelial growth on fish paste and ramyon frying oil, and was used in this study. The optimum temperature and pH for mycelial growth were from 25 to $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.5 to 6.0, respectively. Tryptone for mycelial growth was better than any other nitrogen sources. The addition of $KH_2PO_4 and MgSO_4$ enhanced mycelial growth at 0.2 and 0.01% on fish frying oil, and at 0.1 and 0.03% on ramyon frying oil. Among the vitamins used, thiamine and nicotinic acid were the most effective ones.

Studies on the Mineral Water in Seoul Area (서울시 일원 약수의 수질에 관한 조사연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate water quality and pollution in the mineral water located in Seoul area. 15 sites were pointed out by random sampling and tested monthly for 14 items from July to December in 1986. 1. 14 sites were suitable for the drinking water standards but 1 site was not suitable for its pH (5.4). 2. The range of mineral element and concentration were as follows: $$K\;(1.1\pm0.19\~2.38\pm0.45ppm)$$ $$Na\;(5.14\pm0.32\~11.2\pm0.58ppm)$$ $$Ca\;(4.36\pm0.53\~14.44\pm0.53ppm)$$ $$Mg(1.58\pm0.32\~6.34\pm0.77ppm)$$ 3. Among the heavy metals, Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, were detected small amount but Pb was not detected in all sample. 4. Fluoride concentrations were the range of $0.13\pm0.03\~0.42\pm0.03ppm$.

  • The auther performed this experimental study on cervical margin distortion in preheating method during soldering. 1. In soldering methods, the method using the furnace has less distortion than the method using open-flame and longer the bridge spon, the larger the distortions. 2. Table Ⅰ Showed that buccal margin, lingual margin, mesial margin and distal margin had respectively 0.01mm, 0.02mm, 0.03mm, 0.03mm closer adaptation in 3 unit bridge than in 5 unit bridges. 3. Table II showed that buccal margin, lingual margin, mesial margin and distal margin had respectively 0.06mm, 0.07mm, 0.11mm, 0.05mm closer adaptation in 3 unit bridge than in 5 unit bridges.

  • This study examined growth and sensory characteristics of soybean sprout cultured at $25\pm1^{\circ}C$ for 4 days with distilled water(control) and green tea extract(0.03 and $0.05\%$). Initial germination rate was higher when soaking in green-tea extract than in the control. The proper concentration of green-tea extract was $0.03\%$. The growth of soybean sprout in $0.05\%$ green-tea extract was better than the control for the hypocotyl thickness and mot hair. Soybean sprout grown with green-tea extract were better than that with control inappearance, flavor, texture and over-all acceptabilitty.

UBV CCD PHOTOMETRY OF OPEN CLUSTER NGC 1907 AND NGC 1912

  • Galactic open clusters NGC 1907 and NGC 1912 are known as a binary cluster candidate by Subramaniam et al.(1995). With the SNUO 0.6m telescope, UBV CCD photometric observations were performed for 62 stars in NGC 1907 within the area of $8'{\times}8'$ and 203 stars in NGC 1912 within the area of $15'{\times}15'$ area. We obtained C-M and C-C diagrams. Their mean reddenings are E(B-V) = $0.50{\pm}0.03$ for NGC 1907 and $0.27{\pm}0.03$ for NGC 1912. The distance moduli are estimated as $10.9{\pm}0.15$ and $10.4{\pm}0.10$ for NGC 1907 and NGC 1912, respectively. The ages for these clusters are $400{\pm}50Myr$ for NGC 1907 and $150{\pm}30Myr$ for NGC 1912. The distance difference of the two clusters is 300pc and the age difference is 150Myr. These results imply that the two clusters are not physically connected.

Pilot Scale Experiments on the Oxidation of $TiCl_4$ ($TiCl_4$의 산화반응에 대한 파이롯트 규모 실험)

  • Pilot-scale experiments on the oxidation of TiCl4 to produce TiO2 were carried out in a verical reactor of 20cm in inside diameter and 140cm in length ; LPG burning was used as a heating means to maintain the reaciton temperature. The effects of reaction temperature and excess oxygen content on the conversion of TiCl4 and on the particle size of produced TiO2 were investigated. The ranges of operating conditions varied were 900 to TiO2 was 0.45-0.57${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, TiCl4 conversion was 82-96%, the rutile content was 33-57% and the contents of impurities were 0.03% of Fe, 0.03% of SiO2 and 62ppm of Cl. These experimental results were compared with those of other investigators.

  • 본 논문에서는 변형된 QMSA에 전기력선이 제한되지 않도록 용량을 장하한 MSA를 제안 하였다. 안테나의 크기는 약 $30mm\times86.6mm\times1.575mm$의 크기를 갖는다. 안테나 특성은 듀얼밴드 설계에서 1.93GHz와 2.03GHz의 두 동작 주파수 동조를 수월하게 하였다. 듀얼밴드 동작을 얻기 위한 기술은 양측 평행 평판과 $\lambda/2$ 방사 폐치를 변화시킴으로서 조정할 수 있다. 또한 1.93GHz 와 2.03GHz의 동작 주파수에 대해 E면과 H면에서 시뮬레이션 된 방사 패턴은 비교 분석되었다. 이동 통신을 위한 설계 제작된 듀얼 밴드 안테나 이득은 약 11.394dBi 이고 이득 변화는 아래와 위 공진 주파수에 대해 1.0dBi 보다 작다.

Effects of the Fluorination of Activated Carbons on the Chromium Ion Adsorption (활성탄소의 불소화가 크롬이온 흡착에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, phenol-based activated carbons (ACs) were fluorinated at various fluorine partial pressures (0.01~0.03 MPa) and the $Cr^{6+}$ ion adsorption of fluorinated ACs was investigated. According to BET and XPS results, the specific surface area and total pore volume of fluorinated ACs increased by 24.7 and 55.8%, respectively, and fluorine functional groups were introduced to AC surface. The most optimized condition of $Cr^{6+}$ ion adsorption was confirmed at the fluorine partial pressure of 0.02 MPa. And also the removal efficiency of $Cr^{6+}$ ion was up to 98% at 300 mg/L of the initial concentration, and these results showed an approximately three-fold increase compared to that of using untreated ACs. Furthermore, the $Cr^{6+}$ ion adsorption of fluorinated ACs was completed in less than 30 min in contrast with untreated ACs, which was expected to be an increase of the affinity between $Cr^{6+}$ ions and ACs surfaces by fluorination.
