Zirconium-doped $Li_{1.1}Co_{1-x}Zr_xO_2(0{\leq}x{\leq}0.05)$ powders as cathode materials for lithium ion batteries were synthesized using an ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. Cyclic voltammetry and cyclic stability tests were performed, and the changes of microstructure were observed. The solubility limit of zirconium into $Li_{1.1}CoO_2$ was less than 5 mol%, and monoclinic $Li_2ZrO_3$ phase was formed above the limit. The Zr-doping suppressed the grain growth and increased the lattice parameters of the hexagonal $LiCoO_2$ phase. The Zr-dopiong of 1mol% resulted in the best cyclic performance in the range of $3.0{\sim}4.3V$ at 1C rate (140 mA/g); the initial discharge capacity decreased from 158 mAh/g to 60 mAh/g in the undoped powder, while from 154 mAh/g to 135 mAh/g in the Zr-doped powder of 1 mol% after 30 cycles. The excellent cycle stability of Zr-doped powder was due to the low polarization during chargedischarge processes which resulted from the delayed collapse of the crystal structure of the active materials with Zr-doping.
Spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders in the size range of 250 and 300 ${\mu}m$ were uniformly doped with nano-sized hydroxyapatite (HAp) powders by Spex milling process. A single pulse of 0.75-2.0 kJ/0.7 g of the Ti-6Al-4V powders doped with HAp from 300 mF capacitor was applied to produce fully porous and porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implant compact by electro-discharge-sintering (EDS). The solid core was automatically formed in the center of the compact after discharge and porous layer consisted of particles connected in three dimensions by necks. The solid core increased with an increase in input energy. The compressive yield strength was in a range of 41 to 215 MPa and significantly depended on input energy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer were used to investigate the surface characteristics of the Ti-6Al-4V compact. Ti and O were the main constituents, with smaller amount of Ca and P. It was thus concluded that the porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implant compacts doped with HAp can be efficiently produced by manipulating the milling and electro-discharge-sintering processes.
Sera from rabbits were infected with Vibrio vulnificus containing an antibody against major outer membrane protein (MOMP). MOMP of V. vulnificus ATCC 27562 were isolated and purified by Sarkosyl and TritonX-100 dual treatment. Molecular size of MOMP was identified as 36-kDa on $13\%$ SDS-PAGE. The sequence of the first 26 amino acid residues from the N-terminal end of the protein is AELYNQDGTSLDMGGRAEARLSMKDG, which is a perfect match with OmpU of V. vulnificus CMCP6 and YJ016. MOMP specific IgM and IgG were investigated in groups of mice. The group of mice immunized with MOMP and Alum showed higher levels of IgG2b than the group immunized with only MOMP. Vaccination with MOMP resulted in protective antibodies in the mouse infection experiment.
The following noble series of statistical copolymers, poly[(2-(3-thienyl)ethanol n-butoxycarbonylmethylurethane)-co-3-hexylthiophene] (PURET-co-P3HT), were synthesized by the chemical dehydrogenation method using anhydrous $FeCl_3$. The structure and electro-optical properties of these copolymers were characterized using $^1H$-NMR, UV-visible spectroscopy, elemental analysis, GPC, DSC, TGA, photoluminescence (PL), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The statistical copolymers, PURET-co-P3HT (1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3), were soluble in common organic solvents and easily spin coated onto indium-tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates. Hybrid bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells with an ITO/G-PEDOT/PURET-co-P3HT:PCBM:Ag nanowires/$TiO_x$/Al configuration were fabricated, and the photovoltaic cells using PURET-co-P3HT (1:2) showed the best photovoltaic performance compared with those using PURET-co-P3HT (1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:3). The optimal hybrid bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cell exhibits a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.58% ($V_{oc}$ = 0.82 V, $J_{sc}$ = 5.58, FF = 0.35) with PURET-co-P3HT (1:2) measured by using an AM 1.5 G irradiation (100 mW/$cm^2$) on an Oriel Xenon solar simulator (Oriel 300 W).
Conventional ceramic method has been used to prepare the green phase, $Y_2BaCuO_5$, commonly observed in 90-K superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_P{7-{\delta}}$as an impurity phase. The powder X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that $Y_2BaCuO_5$ has an orthorhombic symmetry with lattice parameter of a = 12.2 $\AA$, b = 5.61 $\AA$, and c = 7.14 $\AA.$ The average g-value 2.13 observed in ESR spectrum is attributable to Cu2+ stabilized in $C_{4v}$ field. From the magnetic susceptibility ($\mu$eff = 2.29 BM) and the ESR measurements, it is confirmed that Cu(II) $3d^9$ electrons in $Y_2BaCuO_5$ are localized and can be characterized by Curie-Weiss behavior. Optical reflectance spectrum shows a broad absorption peak around 680 nm due to dxy ${\rightarrow}$$dx^2-y^2$ eletronic transition.
ZnS:Mn TFEL devices were fabricated by electron-beam evaporation method and then the electro-optical properties were investigated. To investigate the capacitance which was due to oxygen vacancy at the $Ta_2O_5$ thin film, AES(Auger Electron Spectroscopy) and C-F(capacitance-frequency) measurements were used. It was found that the capacitance was decreased by annealing the $Ta_2O_5$ film in oxygen ambience. From EL emission measurement, we observed the EL emission spectrum which had the peak range from 550nm and 650nm. This emission is associated with the transition from $^4T_1(^4G)$ first excited state to $^6A_1(^6S)$ ground state in the $3d^5$ energy level configuration of $Mn^{2+}$ occurs. The threshold voltage of EL device with $Ta_2O_5$ insulator layer was found to be 24V~28V. The CIE color coordinates of these emission are X=0.5151, Y=0.4202 which is yellowish orange emitting. The EL device using $Ta_2O_5$ insulator layer can be driven with a low voltage which is beneficial to the practical application.

$Pb(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})_x(Zr_{0.51}Ti_{0.49})_{1-x}O_3$ (abbreviation: PSN-PZT) ceramics were synthesized, using conventional bulk ceramic processing technology, with various PSN doping contents. The maximum density of PSN-PZT was 97% of the theoretical density in the samples sintered at $1,250^{\circ}C$. The maximum values of the piezoelectric properties achieved using the conventional processes were: $k_p$ of 0.625, $d_{33}$ of 531 pC/N, and $g_{33}$ of $33mV{\cdot}m/N$. Finally, we fabricated a piezo-speaker with the optimized PSN-PZT ceramics. The SPL of the speaker was measured at a distance of 1 m, with a driving voltage of $40V_{rms}$ in the frequency range of ~300 Hz to 9 kHz. The measured $SPL_{max}$ was at a very high level (95 dB), which was superior in quality in comparison with those of other commercial products.

A stoichiometric. mixture of evaporating materials for $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin films was prepared from horizontal electric furnace. Using extrapolation method of X-ray diffraction patterns for the polycrystal $CuGaSe_2$, it was found tetragonal structure whose lattice constant $a_0$ and $c_0$ were $5.615\;{\AA}$ and $11.025\;{\AA}$, respectively. To obtain the single crystal thin films, $CuGaSe_2$ mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the hot wall epitaxy (HWE) system. The source and substrate temperatures were $610^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The carrier density and mobility of $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin films measured with Hall effect by van der Pauw method are $4.87{\times}10^{17}\;cm^{-3}$ and $129\;cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ at 293 K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CuGaSe_2$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)\;=\;1.7998\;eV\;-\;(8.7489\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;eV/K)T^2/(T\;+\;335\;K)$.
Purpose : We already reported the results that aqueous extract of Korean ginseng roots showed a marked cytotoxicity. In this study, we investigated whether combined ginseng product with X-irradiation increase the cytotoxicity of tumor cells than X-irradiation or not. Materials and Methods : Fifty gram of Korean ginseng powder mixed with 1 L of distilled water was extracted with reflux flask under condition of $100^{\circ}C$ for 5 hrs. This aquaous ginseng extract was filtered, centrifuged and then was freezed under condition of $-90^{\circ}C$ for 16-18 hrs. The freezing extract was dried with freeze drier, and then diluted. X-irradiation was given to tumor cells by 6 MeV linear accelerator. The cytotoxicity of ginseng in vitro was evaluated from its ability to reduce the clonogenecity of fibrosarcoma (FSa II) cells. In X-irradiation alone group, each 2, 4, 6 and 8 Gy was given to tumor cells. In X-irradiation with ginseng group, 0.2 mg/mL of ginseng extract was exposed to tumor cells for 1 hour before X-irradiation. Results : The yield for 50 g of ginseng extract which was treated with freezing drier was 3.13 g($6.3\%$). Cytotoxicity In vitro was measured as survival fraction which was judged from the curve, at ginseng concentration of 0.001, 0.01, 0.1 and 1 mg/mL were $0.89\pm0.04$, $0.86\pm0.06$, $0.73\pm0.01$ and $0.09\pm0.02$, respectively. Survival fraction at X-irradiation alone of 2, 4, 6 and 8 Gy were $0.81\pm0.07$, $0.42\pm0.08$, $0.15\pm0.02$, $0.03\pm0.01$, respectively. But, suwival fraction in combined group of X-irradiation and ginseng (0.2mg/ml) at each same radiation dose were $0.28\pm0.01$, $0.18\pm0.03$, $0.08\pm0.02$, $0.006\pm0.002$, respectively (p<0.05). Conclusion : The yield for ginseng extract which was treated with freezing drier was $6.3\%$. Cytotoxicty of Fsa 11 in combined ginseng with X-irradiation group was increased than that of X-irradition alone group, and its enhancing effect seemed to be added.

In this study, an innovative media, iron mixed ceramic pellet (IMCP) has been developed for arsenic (As) removal from groundwater. A porous, solid-phase IMCP (2-3 mm) was manufactured by combining clay soil, rice bran, and Fe(0) powder at $600^{\circ}C$. Both the As(III) and As(V) adsorption characteristics of IMCP were studied in several batch experiments. Structural analysis of the IMCP was conducted using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis to understand the mechanism of As removal. The adsorption of As was found to be dependent on pH, and exhibited strong adsorption of both As(III) and As(V) at pH 5-7. The adsorption process was described to follow a pseudo-second-order reaction, and the adsorption rate of As(V) was greater than that of As(III). The adsorption data were fit well with both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. The maximum adsorption capacities of As(III) and As(V) from the Langmuir isotherm were found to be 4.0 and 4.5 mg/g, respectively. Phosphorus in the water had an adverse effect on both As(III) and As(V) adsorption. Scanning electron microscopy results revealed that iron(III) oxides/hydroxides are aggregated on the surface of IMCP. XAFS analysis showed a partial oxidation of As(III) and adsorption of As(V) onto the iron oxide in the IMCP.
