With the advent of new convergence services, the requirements of 5G mobile communication systems are being newly derived. The 5G mobile communication system has been evolving to solve requirements that cannot be satisfied with existing 4G mobile communication systems, such as a high user experience transmission rate, short transmission delay, and high connection density. The evolution of a 5G mobile communication system to meet the new requirements is expected to be dominated by the UDN environment in which a number of small cells are concentrated. The 5G wireless backhaul system, which has advantages in terms of initial installation and operation cost, is expected to be an indispensable choice for connecting many small cells and core networks. This paper therefore looks at the frequency band characteristics and requirements applicable to 5G wireless backhaul systems that can accommodate new situations, and introduces key related technologies that can satisfy the 5G wireless backhaul requirements.. In addition, we describe the research and development trends of a 5G wireless backhaul system that is currently under development.
The increase in data traffic calls for investment in mobile networks; however, the saturating revenue of mobile broadband and increasing capital expenditure are discouraging mobile operators from investing in next-generation mobile networks. Mobile network sharing is a viable solution for operators and regulators to resolve this dilemma. This research uses a difference-in-differences analysis of 33 operators (including 11 control operators) to empirically evaluate the cost reduction effect of mobile network sharing. The results indicate a reduction in overall operating expenditure and short-term capital expenditure by national roaming. This finding implies that future technology and standards development should focus on flexible network operation and maintenance, energy efficiency, and maximizing economies of scale in radio access networks. Furthermore, mobile network sharing will become more viable and relevant in a 5G network deployment as spectrum bands are likely to increase the total cost of ownership of mobile networks and technical enablers will facilitate network sharing.
The introduction of virtualization technology in the broadcasting field is actively progressing broadcasting service automation and intelligence based on the effective operation of IT resources throughout the broadcasting industry ecosystem. In recent years, there is increasing interest in increasing the flexibility of various broadcasting resources and increasing the efficiency of interworking with other networks through network virtualization of the broadcasting network infrastructure. The fundamental transformation from the broadcasting network to the IP paradigm is facing a situation where it is necessary to solve various problems for the effective interworking of Internet-based service platforms and 5G networks and the development of new convergence services. In other words, for organic and effective interworking with the next-generation broadcasting network represented by ATSC 3.0, a mobile communication network represented by 5G, and the Internet, a number of difficulties must be solved. In this paper, the basic technology and status for the convergence of ATSC 3.0 broadcasting network and mobile communication network represented by 5G was examined, and a plan for the ATSC 3.0 broadcasting network and 5G network to interwork with each other as a network was described.

As the sixth generation (6G) promising technique, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has recently attracted much attention. The IRS based wireless communication is expected to deploy the upcoming 6G mobile networks, to increase energy and spectrum efficiency in the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this paper, we compare the bit-error rate (BER) performances for phase-shift schemes of IRS non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). First, we derive a BER expression for the equalizing phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA networks. Then we compare the BER of the equalizing phase-shift scheme to that of the identical phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA networks, and show the BER improvement of the equalizing phase-shift scheme IRS NOMA over the identical phase-shift scheme IRS NOMA. Furthermore, we also validate the proposed analytical BER for the equalizing phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA by Monte Carlo simulations, and demonstrate that they well match each other.

The commercialization of the fifth generation (5G) mobile systems has quested enabling technologies, such as intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) transmissions, towards the sixth generation (6G) networks. In this paper, we present a bit-error rate (BER) performance analysis on IRS transmissions in 5G non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks. First, we derive a closed-form expression for the BER of IRS-NOMA transmissions under Rician fading channels. Then, by Monte Carlo simulations, we validate the proposed approximate BER expression, and show numerically that the derived BER expression is in good agreement with Monte Carlo simulations. Furthermore, we also analyze the BER performance of IRS-NOMA networks under Rician fading channels with different numbers of reflecting elements, and demonstrate that the performances improve monotonically as the number of reflecting devices increases.

The 5th generation mobile communication (5G) is being commercialized by major domestic and foreign mobile telecommunication businesses and is spreading to general customers mainly on smart devices such as smartphones, wearables, and IoT. If 4G networks and 5G access equipment were utilized by introducing NSA(None-Stand Alone) technology when 5G was first introduced, recently, 5G convergence services are being realized by gradually expanding evolution to 5G standalone networks through SA (Stand Alone) technology. The purpose of this study is to study a design plan for implementing necessary service-oriented functions from the perspective of communication network users on the configuration of 5G SA equipment based on SBA(Service-based Architecture) mentioned in the 3GPP technical specification document. Through this research, it is expected that companies that need to enter the 5G market can easily access the 5G SA network to develop and supplement specialized 5G convergence services to improve product performance and quality.

In the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), complete implementations are dependent largely on the speed of the fifth generation (5G) networks. However, successive interference cancellation (SIC) in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) of the 5G mobile networks can be still decoding latency and receiver complexity in the conventional SIC NOMA scheme. Thus, in order to reduce latency and complexity of inherent SIC in conventional SIC NOMA schemes, we propose a rate-lossless non-SIC NOMA scheme. First, we derive the closed-form expression for the achievable data rate of the asymmetric 2PAM non-SIC NOMA, i.e., without SIC. Second, the exact achievable power allocation interval of this rate-lossless non-SIC NOMA scheme is also derived. Then it is shown that over the derived achievable power allocation interval of user-fairness, rate-lossless non-SIC NOMA can be implemented. As a result, the asymmetric 2PAM could be a promising modulation scheme for rate-lossless non-SIC NOMA of 5G networks, under user-fairness.

The fifth generation (5G) mobile communication technology is designed to meet all communication needs. Heterogeneous networks (HetNets) are a new emerging network structure. HetNets have greater potential for radio resource reuse and better service quality than homogeneous networks since they can evolve small cells into macrocells. Effective resource allocation techniques reduce inter-user interference while optimizing the utilization of limited spectrum resources in HetNets. This article discusses resource allocation in 5G HetNets. This paper explains HetNets and how they work. Typical cell types in HetNets are summarized. Also, HetNets models are explained in the third section. The fourth component addresses radio resource control and mobility management. Moreover, future study in this subject may benefit from this article's significant insights on how HetNets function.
Uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become a vital element in nonterrestrial networks, especially with respect to 5G communication systems and beyond. The use of UAVs in support of 4G/5G base station (uncrewed aerial vehicle base station [UAV-BS]) has proven to be a practical solution for extending cellular network services to areas where conventional infrastructures are unavailable. In this study, we introduce a UAV-BS system that utilizes a high-capacity wireless backhaul operating in millimeter-wave frequency bands. This system can achieve a maximum throughput of 1.3 Gbps while delivering data at a rate of 300 Mbps, even at distances of 10 km. We also present the details of our testbed implementation alongside the performance results obtained from field tests.
