Comparison of Thermal Properties and Surface Structures of Unmodified, Spray-Dried, and Extrusion-Dried Agar (일반한천, 분무건조한천, 압출성형한천의 열 특성 및 표면구조의 비교)

  • Agar has widely been used as medical aids and food ingredients due to its pecular physicochemical and rheological properties. In this paper, the effects of spray drying and extrusion drying on functional properties of agar were investigated to clarify the sol-gel transition mechanism at low temperature and microstructure of agar gel by measuring phase transition by differential scanning calorimetery, structural differences by light microscope and scanning electron microscope observation. The lowest endothermic onset(To), peak(Tp), conclusion(Tc) temperature and enthalpy($\Delta$H) using differential scanning calorimetery were showed in extrusion-dried agar wic were checked in 41.30, 61.72, 80.50 and 0.73cal/g. In cases of unmodified and spray-dried, the values were 81.20, 95.51, 112.14 and 3.22cal/g, and 60.11, 76.45, 89.54 and 1.53cal/g, respectively. When all samples were reheated using differential scanning calorimetery after gelling fully, no significant differences of endothermic To, Tp, Tc and $\Delta$H appeared. The surface structure of unmodified agar powder observed by light microscope and scanning electron microscope appeared a continuous surface without any indication of small pores, gaps or point of discontinuity. In cases of spray-dried agar, the unstable structures with pores was resulted. The microstructures of extrusion-dried agar, however, was solid with large gaps and areas of discontinuity in the surface. From the results above, it was suggested that significant differences in phase transition and surface microstructures were clearly related to the physicochemical changes and rheological properties, solubility and gelling ability of the types of agar gel.

  • In this study, it is experimented to find factors effecting surface roughness using the system of experiments. in the mirror surface finishing system. (1) The film feed and oscillation frequency in $40{\mu}m$ abrasive film, grinding speed in $30{\mu}m$, and machining time in $15{\mu}m$15 are the main factors effecting the surface roughness. (2) Applying the optimal finishing condition to $40{\mu}m$, $30{\mu}m$, $15{\mu}m$ abrasive finishing film in sequence, it is possible to obtian about Ra 10 nm surface roughness on SM45C workpiece. (3) Application of the system of experments to the micro abrasive grain film finishing was very effective method in the extraction of main factor and optimal condition.

Circulation State of Strawberry and Quality Changes during Ripening (딸기의 유통실태와 성숙중의 품질변화)

  • Circulation state and changes in quality during ripening of strawberry were investigated. Tissue damage of the fruit happened when it was harvested and selected. Strawberry has been harvested without considering of fruit temperature in the farm. It takes 25 hours from Goreung which is main production area of strawberry to retailer, and seasonal variation in the price was severe. Shelf-life of strawberry from Feb to Mar was 5-6 days, and was 24-30 hours from May to June. Desirable ripening stage was 28-30th day after blooming and 40th day and after this was over ripening stage when the degree of ripening estimated by color "a" value and color saturation. Overall eating quality and vitamin C contents and sugar content were more higher in the fruit of the desirable ripening stage than that of unripening and over ripening stage. The dark redness degree was high in the over ripening stage.

  • The early life history of Korean bullhead, Pseudobagrus fulvidraco was studied to obtain some information required in aquaculture and reinforcement of natural population. The fertilized eggs were almost spherical in shape and demersal. The egg membranes were transparent with minute folds on the surface, causing them to stick to other substrates. Yolk is yellowish without oil droplets. The eggs just after fertilization were measuring $1.4{\pm}0.03mm$(1.3~1.5mm, n=10) and expanded to $1.7{\pm}0.08mm$(1.6~1.8mm, n=10) in diameter in 1.5 hr. The blastodisc was formed in 30 min and cleavage started in 1 hr after fertilization, and the intervals of each stage of cleavage was about 30 min at $25.0^{\circ}C$. The yolk from 32-cell stage to gastrula stage partly depressed and the depressed part moved clockwise. Hatching occurred in 53 hr after fertilization and hatched embryos had 18~19+20~21(38~40) myomeres measuring 4.2~4.3mm in total length. At the age 7 d after hatching, 4 pairs of barbels were already formed ; 1 pair on the posterior part of the nostril, 1 pair on the upper jaw, and 2 pairs on the lower jaw. And the posterior margin of caudal fin changed into two folds. The lateral band and the form of all fins were completed in 3 weeks.

  • This study was carried out to clarify the biologies and morphological characteristics of Rhynchaenus sanguinipes. Also some chemicals were tested to screen the effective insecticide for the control of the species. Up to date, Zelkova serrata has been hewn as host plant of Rhynchaenus sanguinipes, which shows serious damage in this country. In the present study, Ulmus pumila was first found as host plant in this study. Body lengths of larvae, pupa and adult were 4.53$\pm$0.30 mm, 3.30$\pm$0.42 mm and 2.96$\pm$0.12 mm, respectively. The overwintered adult of the species emerged on early April to late April, and adult of nekt generation emerged on early May to late May, Pupal periods were 10, 7.2, 5.1 and 4 days on 16, 20, 24 and 28$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The lower developmental threshold temperature was 5.8$^{\circ}C$. Four braconid parasitoids were found as natural enemies, which emerged mainly on late April to early June. Insecticidal activities with treatments of fenitrothion 50% EC, indoxacarb 30% WG, ethofenprox 20% EC and thiacloprid 10% SC was investigated against adult of R. sanguinpes, and they showed >90% mortality.

  • starches, isolated from Japonica and nonwaxy rites, were analyzed fur gelatinization characteristics. Amylose contents of Taebaeg and Sangpung starch were 16 and 17%, respectively. The portion of large-sized particles was more pronounced in the case of Sangpung starch. Swelling power and solubility increased according to the rise in gelatinization temperature. The decrease of pasting temperature according to the incense in starch concentration in Sangpung starch was higher than that of Taebaeg starch. Most of the increase in light penetration was accomplished between 85 and $90^{\circ}C$. Gelatinization reactions of Taebaeg and Sangpung starch appeared as 2 different stages up to the gelatinization temperature of $90^{\circ}C$.

Pretreahent and Saccharification of Poplar by Solvent Extraction (유기용매 추출법에 의한 포플라의 전처리 및 당화)

  • The effect of the pretreatment by solvent extraction on the saccharification of poplar (Populus euramencana) was studied. The solvent system was Phenol/H2O(Uncatalyzed)and Phenol/H2O/HCl catalyst system. When the poplar was pretreated by uncatalyzed system, the best result of the saccharification was total of 43.9 g/1 reducing sugar produced and 83.5% of carbohydrated conversion was obtained at 19$0^{\circ}C$, 60 minutes. Total wood yield and the lignin removal were 46.3% and 98.2% respectively. The use of acid catalyst was unsuitable to increase he efficiency of saccharification.

However, domestic vehicle emissions test temperature of $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ is it does not reflect this situation the actual test temperature to accurately measure the exhaust gas volume of the vehicle is difficult. In this study, domestic automobile exhaust gas test conditions of a test temperature $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ various temperatures, including (35, 25, 0, -7, -15, $-25^{\circ}C$) under the two vehicles (2.0L MPI, 2.4 L GDI) as was discussed with respect to the exhaust gas characteristics of the vehicle according to the ambient temperature gas. As a result, domestic emissions test temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ than average conditions were temperature decreases greenhouse gas emissions and increase overall increased by up to 15 times higher. Changes in Lipid Composition of Korean Red Pepper(Capsicum annuum) during Processing and Storage (고추 가공 및 저장 조건에 따른 지질성분의 변화)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the changes in lipid components of red pepper under various processing conditions such as drying, exposing to lights, extraction and storage conditions. The material used in this study were Chungyang cultivars which contained the largest amount of capsaicinoids and Dabok cultivars which is most popular among the various cultivars produced in Korea. Total lipid content of Chungyang was 15.7% and those of Dabok, Udeungsang and Hongilpum were about 17%. The neutral lipid content in free lipid of red pepper was $78.5{\sim}80.3%$ Phospholipid and glycolipid content in bound lipid were $53.8{\sim}56.9%$ and $35.3{\sim}38.7%$ respectively. The major fatty acids of lipid were linoleic, palmitic and oleic acid. Linoleic acid was presented mainly in pericarp, seed and placenta, whereas the most of palmitic acid was presented in stem. Lipid content of cut and whole red pepper were decreased $24.7{\sim}28%$ and $18.1{\sim}21.5%$ by drying for 48hrs at $65^{\circ}C$ and $95^{\circ}C$. And lipid content was also decreased $3.5{\sim}3.6%$ when the red pepper powder was exposed to 15,000 lux of incandescent light for 30 days at $40^{\circ}C$ and $4{\sim}4.9%$ to fluorescent light. The lipid was extracted the highest content of $50.5{\sim}51.7%$ by acid solution(pH2) and the lowest content by neutral solution, and the higher the salt concentration, the greater the lipid was extracted. During storage at $4^{\circ}C,\;25^{\circ}C,\;40^{\circ}C$, for 30 days the lipid content was not much changed but linoleic acid content was decreased during storage at the same conditions.

  • Contaminated liver fluke egg in the environment has led to the high prevalence of human opisthorchiasis associated with cholangiocarcinoma in Southeast Asia. To find the effective lessening methods of Opisthorchis viverrini eggs in the contaminated environment, we investigated the temperature conditions for killing of these trematode eggs in vitro. Numerous O. viverrini eggs were obtained in the proximal part of uteri of adult worms from experimental hamsters. Mature eggs with miracidium were allocated by experimental groups (2 control: positive and negative and 4 treatment: 50, 60, 70, and $80^{\circ}C$) with 0.85% saline, and treated by the experimental plan. Eggs in each experimental groups were observed under the confocal microscope after stain with Propidium Iodide (PI) to evaluate the effect of temperatures. Eggs in 70 and $80^{\circ}C$ groups were all killed after over 10 min heated. Majority of eggs in $60^{\circ}C$ (10, 15, and 30 min heated), 70 and $80^{\circ}C$ (5 min heated) groups were inactivated. However in $50^{\circ}C$ group, below half of eggs were to be killed in all time lapse (10, 15 and 30 min). In order to prevent O. viverrini infection and cholangiocarcinoma, direct treatment of sewage by heating at 70 or $80^{\circ}C$ at least 10 min is essential. Therefore, treatment of O. viverrini eggs at a high temperature is a potential method for controlling egg contamination in sewage.
