  • A linear rod-like molecule, bis[4-(1,3-octadynyl)phenyl] terephthalate (2), consisting of two diacetylenic groups, was prepared. The unsymmetric diacetylene was prepared by the Cadiot-Chodkiewicz coupling reaction of 1-bromohexyne with 4-ethynylphenol and linked to a benzene core by an esterification reaction with terephthaloyl chloride in tetrahydrofuran. The thin film (200 nm thickness) of compound 2 was fabricated by the physical vapor deposition on a glass plate with a thermal evaporator. In the X-ray diffraction (XRD) study, the vapor deposited film on the glass plate showed peaks with d spacings of 19.4, 5.7, and 4.5 $\AA$. This XRD pattern was quite different from that observed for compound 2 isolated by recrystallization from methylene chloride/hexane. The vapor deposited film was polymerized by UV irradiation. Photopolymerization was carried out through a photomask, resulting in a patterned image, where the irradiated part became isotropic.

  • Mechanical properties and precipitation behavior of backward extruded 6061 Al alloy for pressure vessel were investigated using tensile test, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). In this study, solution heat treatment (SHT) was performed at $535^{\circ}C$ for 30~90 min and aging treatment was conducted at 177 and $190^{\circ}C$ for 1~7 h. Maximum tensile strength of $36.6kgf/mm^2$ and yield strength of $33.29kgf/mm^2$ were achieved at the aging time of 5 h at $190^{\circ}C$. TEM observation showed that fine needle-like ${\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ phase which has 35~45 nm of length was uniformly distributed in the aged 6061 Al alloy specimen. From tensile test, TEM and DSC analysis, it is expected that aging time of 2~5 h at $190^{\circ}C$ is suitable for the extruded A6061 used as pressure vessels.

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage is a critical issue for mitigating climate change. Porous aromatic Schiff base complexes have emerged as a promising class of materials for CO2 capture due to their high surface area, porosity, and stability. In this study, we investigate the potential of Schiff base complexes as an effective media for CO2 storage. We review the synthesis and characterization of porous aromatic Schiff bases materials complexes and examine their CO2 sorption properties. We find that Schiff base complexes exhibit high CO2 adsorption capacity and selectivity, making them a promising candidate for use in carbon capture applications. Moreover, we investigate the effect of various parameters such as temperature, and pressure on the CO2 adsorption properties of Schiff base complexes. The Schiff bases possessed tiny Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface areas (4.7-19.4 m2/g), typical pore diameters of 12.8-29.43 nm, and pore volumes ranging from 0.02-0.073 cm3/g. Overall, our results suggest that synthesized complexes have great potential as an effective media for CO2 storage, which could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to mitigating climate change. The study provides valuable insights into the design of novel materials for CO2 capture and storage, which is a critical area of research for achieving a sustainable future.

  • New poly(cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene) (PCPP)-based conjugated copolymers, containing carbazole units as pendants, were prepared as the electroluminescent (EL) layer in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to show that most of them have higher maximum brightness and EL efficiency. The prepared polymers, Poly(2,6-(4-(6-(Ncarbazolyl)- hexyl)-4-octyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene)) (CzPCPP10) and Poly(2,6-(4-(6-(N-carbazolyl)- hexyl)-4-octyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene))-co-(2,6-(4,4-dioctyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene)) (CzPCPP7 and CzPCPP5), were soluble in common organic solvents and used as the EL layer in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) of configuration with ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Ca/Al device. The polymers are thermally stable with glass transition temperature (Tg) at 77-100 °C and decomposition temperature (Td) at 423-457 °C. The studies of cyclic voltammetry indicated same HOME levels in all polymers, although the ratios of carbazole units are different. In case of PLEDs with configuration of ITO/PEDOT/CzPCPPs/Ca/Al device, The EL maximum peaks were around 450 nm, which the turn-on voltages were about 6.0-6.5 V. The maximum luminescence of PLEDs using CzPCPP10 was over 4400 cd/m2 at 6.5 V, which all of the maximum EL efficiency were 0.12 cd/A. The CIE coordinates of the EL spectrum of PLEDs using CzPCPP10 was (0.18, 0.08), which are quite close to that of the standard blue (0.14, 0.08) of NTSC.

  • Background: Indiscriminate use of antibiotics in livestock and poultry farming has caused emergence of new pathogenic strains. The situation has warrented the development of safe and alternative growth promoters and immunity enhancers in livestock. Herbal additives in animal and bird feed is a centuries-old practice. Thus, the present study investigated the efficacy of a standardized formulation of lipophilic turmeric extract containing curcumin and turmerones, (TF-36), as a natural growth promoter poultry feed additive. Methods: The study was designed on 180 one-day old chicks, assigned into three groups. Control group ($T_0$) kept on basal diet and supplemented groups $T_{0.5}$ and $T_1$ fed with 0.5% and 1% TF-36 fortified basal diet for 42 days. Each dietary group consisted of six replicates of ten birds. Body weight, food intake, food conversion ratio, skin colour, blood biochemical analysis and antioxidant status of serum were investigated. Results: Body weight improved significantly in $T_1$ with a 10% decrease in FCR as compared to the control. TF-36 supplementation in $T_1$ enhanced the antioxidant enzyme activity significantly (p < 0.05) with a decrease (p < 0.05) in lipid peroxidation. It also caused a slight yellow skin pigmentation without any change in meat color, indicating the bioavailability of curcumin from TF-36. However, no significant change in the concentration of serum creatinine, total protein and liver enzyme activities were observed, indicating the safety. Conclusion: In summary, we concluded that TF-36 can be a natural feed additive to improve growth performance in poultry, probably due to the better antioxidant activity and antimicrobial effects contributed by the better bioavailability of curcuminoids and turmerones. Besides, curcuminoids and turmerones were also known to be gastroprotective and anti-inflammatory agents.

  • The presence of process related impurities in any drug or the drug product was associated with its safety, stability and efficacy. The overall literature survey proved that there is no method published on the assessment of process related impurities in brigatinib. In this study, a simple, reliable and stable HPLC qualitative method was reported for quantification of process related impurities with easy and quick extraction procedure. The impurities along with standard brigatinib was resolved on Lichrospher® C18 (250 mm × 4.6 mm; 5 ㎛ particle size) column in room temperature using methanol, acetonitrile, pH 4.5 phosphate buffer in 55:25:20 (v/v) at 1.0 mL/min as mobile phase and UV detection at 261 nm. The method produces well resolved peaks at retention time of 4.60 min, 12.28 min, 3.37 min, 7.34 min and 8.39 min respectively for brigatinib, impurity A, B, C and D. The method produces a very sensitive detection limit of 0.0065 ㎍/mL, 0.0068 ㎍/mL, 0.0053 ㎍/mL and 0.0058 ㎍/mL for impurity A, B, C and D respectively with calibration curve linear in the concentration range of 22.5-135 ㎍/mL for brigatinib and 0.0225-0.135 ㎍/mL for impurities. The method produces all the validation parameters under the acceptable level and doesn't produces any considerable changes in peak area response while minor changes in the developed method conditions. The method can effectively resolve the unknown stress degradation products along with known impurities with less % degradation. The method can efficiently resolve and quantify the impurities in formulation and hence can suitable for the routine quality analysis of brigatinib in raw material and formulation.

  • A rapid, selective and sensitive reversed-phase HPLC method for the determination of a major metabolite of terfenadine, fexofenadine, in human serum was developed, validated, and applied to the pharmacokinetic study of terfenadine. Fexofenadine and internal standard, haloperidol were extracted from human serum by liquid-liquid extraction with acetonitrile and analyzed on a $Symmetry^{TM}$ C8 column with the mobile phase of 1% triethylamine phosphate (pH 3.7)-acetonitrile (67:33, v/v, adjusted to pH 5.6 with triethylamine). Detection wavelength of 230 nm for excitation, 280 nm for emission and flow rate of 1.0 mL/min were fixed for the study. The assay robustness for the changes of mobile phase pH, organic solvent content, and flow rate was confirmed by $3^{3}$ factorial design using a fixed fexofenadine concentration (50 ng/mL) with respect to its peak area and retention time. In addition, the ruggedness of this method was investigated at three different laboratories using same quality control (QC) samples. This method showed linear response over the concentration range of 10-500 ng/mL with correlation coefficients greater than 0.999. The lower limit of quantification using 0.5 mL of serum was 10 ng/mL, which was sensitive enough for the pharmacokinetic studies of terfenadine. The overall accuracy of the quality control samples ranged from 95.70 to 114.58% for fexofenadine with overall precision (% C.V.) being 3.53-14.39%. The relative mean recovery of fexofenadine for human serum was 90.17%. Stability studies (freeze-thaw, short-term, extracted serum sample and stock solution) showed that fexofenadine was stable during storage, or during the assay procedure in human serum. However, the storage at $-70^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks showed that fexofenadine was not stable. The peak area and retention time of fexofenadine were not significantly affected by the changes of mobile phase pH, organic solvent content, and flow rate under the conditions studied. This method showed good ruggedness (within 15% C.V.) and was successfully used for the analysis of fexofenadine in human serum samples for the pharmacokinetic studies of orally administered Tafedine tablet (60 mg as terfenadine) at three different laboratories, demonstrating the suitability of the method.

The size of silvernanoparticle ranged from 3.5 nm to 5.9 nm. To check the effect of the capability of osseointegration of silvernanoparticle coated Implant, 32 implants (16 piece of Implant treated with nanoparticle, and 16 piece of Implant was not treated for control) were placed at both the tibia of 8 New Zealand white rabbits. After 4 weeks, 4 rabbits were sacrificed and the removal torque was measured for comparison of the osseointagration ability. Further, 4 rabbits were sacrificed and sliced samples were made. H&E stain was done for microscopic finding. Results: The removal torque of the experimental group was $102.37{\pm}30.54$ N/cm, and the control group was $73.30{\pm}19.97$ N/cm. It was statistically significant (P<0.001). Microscopic finding also shows extinguish results in silvernanoparticle treated implants. Bone formation rate of the experimental group was 43.94% and the control group was 7.58%. It was observed to be statistically significant (P=0.017). Bone to implant contact rate of the experimental group was 58.09%, and the control group was 19.43%. It was found with statistical significance (P<0.001). Conclusion: The silvernanopartilce treated implant shows a better capability of bone regeneration and osseointegration than the non-treated one. Technology to produce smaller particles would make silver more useful and safer.

  • Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) can be deposited on various substrates using chemical vapor deposition process, which results in the formation of PDMS thin films with thickness below 5 nm. PDMS layers can be evenly deposited on surfaces of nanoparticles composed of various chemical compositions such as $SiO_2$, $TiO_2$, ZnO, C, Ni, and NiO, and the PDMS-coated surface becomes completely hydrophobic. These hydrophobic layers are highly resistant towards degradation under acidic and basic environments and UV-exposures. Nanoparticles coated with PDMS can be used in various environmental applications: hydrophobic silica nanoparticles can selectively interact with oil from oil/water mixture, suppressing fast diffusion of spill-oil on water and allowing more facile physical separation of spill-oil from the water. Upon heat-treatments of PDMS-coated $TiO_2$ under vacuum conditions, $TiO_2$ surface becomes completely hydrophilic, accompanying formation oxygen vacancies responsible for visible-light absorption. The post-annealed $PDMS-TiO_2$ shows enhanced photocatalytic activity with respect to the bare $TiO_2$ for decomposition of organic dyes in water under visible light illumination. We show that the simple PDMS-coating process presented here can be useful in a variety of field of environmental science and technology.
