An Evaluation Study On Response Modification Factor of Unreinforced Mansonry Structure (비보강 조적조 건축물의 반응수정계수 설정에 관한 연구)

  • This study shows the basic data for setting up a response modification factor of unreinforcement masonry structure by considering and analyzing the experiment results of the domestic walls. If the result of this study compare with the value R of KBC-2005, 1.5, the average value, 1.2, is the low value. However, the maximum value, 2.57, is more than 70% bigger than the standard value. The standard value of overstrength factor, 2.5 is judged to have relatively bigger value than this study.

Seismic Behavior Factors of RC Staggered Wall Buildings

  • In this study seismic performance of reinforced concrete staggered wall system structures were investigated and their behavior factors such as overstrength factors, ductility factors, and the response modification factors were evaluated from the overstrength and ductility factors. To this end, 5, 9, 15, and 25-story staggered wall system (SWS) structures were designed and were analyzed by nonlinear static and dynamic analyses to obtain their nonlinear force-displacement relationships. The response modification factors were computed based on the overstrength and the ductility capacities obtained from capacity envelopes. The analysis results showed that the 5- and 9-story SWS structures failed due to yielding of columns and walls located in the lower stories, whereas in the 15- and 25-story structures plastic hinges were more widely distributed throughout the stories. The computed response modification factors increased as the number of stories decreased, and the mean value turned out to be larger than the value specified in the design code.

Modification and Inactivation of Human Ceruloplasmin by Oxidized DOPA

  • Ceruloplasmin (CP), the blue oxidase present in all vertebrates, is the major copper-containing protein of plasma. It has been proposed that oxidation of L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) may contribute to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. The effect of the oxidized products of DOPA on the modification of human CP was investigated. When CP was incubated with the oxidized L-DOPA, the protein was induced to be aggregated and ferroxidase activity was decreased in a time-dependent manner. Radical scavengers and catalase significantly inhibited the oxidized DOPA-mediated CP aggregation. Copper chelatrors, Diethylenetriaminepenta acetic acid (DTPA) and Diethyldithiocarbamic acid (DDC), also inhibited the oxidative modification of CP. The results suggested that DOPA oxidation led to the formation of free radical and induced the CP aggregation.

The Effects of Sc on the Microstructure of Hypoeutectic Al-Si Alloys (아공정 Al-Si합금 조직에 미치는 Sc의 효과)

  • The eutectic Si in Al-8.5wt.%Si alloy was changed from large flake to fine lemellar(or fibrous) shape when the Sc amount in the Al-Si alloy reaches 0.2wt.%. The optimum amount of Sc for the best modification effect was 0.8wt.% and slight decrease of modification effect occurred over this value. The study on the distribution of the modifiers(Sr, Na, and Sc) and the measurement of the surface tension of the Al-8.5wt.%Si alloy melt added with Sr, Na, and Sc modifier, respectively, reveals that Sc modifies the eutectic Si by the decrease of surface tension, while Sr and Na modify the eutectic Si mainly by impurity induced twinning mechanism.

  • This study was conducted to improve the functional properties of soybean protein isolate by dimethylglutarylation and acetylation. Amino acid composition and solubility of modified soybean protein by dimethylglutarylation were not changed, but lysine and trypsin inhibitor activity was decreased an isoelectric point was moved from pH5 to pH4 as a result of modification. Emulsification capacity and stability, foaming capacity and thermal stability were increased by the modification. In that 91% dimethylglutarylated protein did not coagulate when heating at $100^{\circ}C$ for 20 min. while its foaming stability was decreased. Whereas specific gravity was decreased by the modification of the soybean protein, relative viscosity and whiteness were improved. Generally, dimethylglutarylation produced more conformational changes in protein system than did in acetylation.

  • An efficient method for change of eigenvectors and eigenvalues due to the modifying proportional damping structure using sensitivity coefficients is presented. Sensitivity coefficients are determined by iteration with eigenvalue and eigenvectors before modification of system. The proposed method is applied to examples of 3 degrees of freedom system and plate by modifying mass and stiffness. The predicted change of eigenvectors and eigenvalues are in a good agreement with these from the structural re-analysis after modification of mass and stiffness.

Input energy spectrum damping modification factors

  • This study examines damping modification factors (DMFs) of elastic input energy spectra corresponding to a set of 116 earthquake ground motions. Mean input energy per mass spectra and mean DMFs are presented for both considered ground motion components. Damping ratios of 3%, 5%, 10%, 20%, and 30% are used and the 5% damping ratio is considered the benchmark for DMF computations. The geometric mean DMFs of the two horizontal components of each ground motion are computed and coefficients of variation are presented graphically. The results show that the input energy spectra-based DMFs exhibit a dependence on the damping ratio at very short periods and they tend to be nearly constant for larger periods. In addition, mean DMF variation is obtained graphically for also the damping ratio, and mathematical functions are fitted as a result of statistical analyses. A strong correlation between the computed DMFs and the ones from predicted equations is observed.

  • In this study, the sliding wear in spur gears, using Archard's wear model, is analyzed. Formulas of tooth sliding wear depth along the line of action are derived. The tooth profile is modified Id make a smooth transmission of the normal loads and the cylinder profile for reducing the pressure spike is suggested. The sliding wear rate is calculated with these profiling results. We expect these modification methods to contribute to the reduction of sliding wear not only in the root, but the tip of tooth and tooth edge.
