  • In many construction projects, progress and efficiency are hampered by poor communication of discipline-specific models. For example, architects use 2D or 3D CAD models and builders use CPM diagrams, Gantt charts, and spreadsheets to show their view of the project. Nowadays, advanced computer visualization tools, 4D CAD or VR, can show these disparate models to understand cross-disciplinary impacts of design and construction decisions. In Korea, several leading companies have tried to apply these tools to their pilot projects from the design phase to the maintenance phase. These companies have expected that more project stakeholders could understand a construction schedule more quickly and completely with 4D visualization than with the traditional construction management tools. However, modeling of the 4D CAD or VR can be quite time-consuming and expensive to generate manually and has therefore limited the spread and use of these models. In order to adopt widely those models in construction industry, the areas that those tools could support to take large benefits in diverse functional areas of construction management need to be analyzed. In this study, researchers analyze the usefulness and limitations of the 4D models and VR in the construction industry, develop the strategy of application priority, and improve the 4D modeling method.

  • Four seismic reflection horizons in 3-D seismic data, coherence derived from the seismic data, and 38 well logs from the Boonsville Gas Filed in Texas were tried to be integrated and visualized in 3 dimensions. Time surface was constructed from pick times of the reflection horizons. Average velocities to each horizon at 38 well locations were calculated based on depth markers from the well logs and time picks from the 3-D seismic data. The time surface was transformed to depth surface through velocity interpolation. Coherence was calculated on the 3-D seismic data by semblance method. Spatial distribution of the coherence is captured easily in 3-D visualization. Comparing to a time-slice of seismic data, distinctive stratigraphic features could be correctly recognized on the 3-D visualization.

RTP system is required for proper dose plan in radiation therapy treatment. The main goal of this research is to develop dose model for photon, electron, and brachytherapy, and to display dose distribution on patient images with optimum process. The main items developed in this research includes: (l) user requirements and quality control; analysis of user requirement in RTP, networking between RTP and relevant equipment, quality control using phantom for clinical application (2) dose model in RTP; photon, electron, brachytherapy, modifying dose model (3) image processing and 3D visualization; 2D image processing, auto contouring, image reconstruction, 3D visualization (4) object modeling and graphic user interface; development of total software structure, step-by-step planning procedure, window design and user-interface. Our final product show strong capability for routine and advance RTP planning.

  • It is now the era of ubiquitous which is highly integrated on the convergence technologies with not only ICT bul also BT, CT, NT and ST. Through this convergence technology, the understanding on visualization of 3D virtual reality which make more human's 5 feelings activate beyond the wall of time and space is recently very important. We search the visualization technology of 3D virtual reality and estimate the future development, and give the perspectives. Since the visualization technology of virtual reality is strongly depended on 3D computer graphics representations, 3D image visualization technology being able to get immersion has been possible. The new paradym on computer interactions is implemented by making images augment on the base of the PC and display equipments. The studies is established on the direction of more intensity on humanity. And also, these technologies will be able to achieve actively the implementations for ubiquitous society dueing to get the high-technology on the superhighway networks.

  • The numerous applications surface interpolation include the modeling and visualization phenomena. A tetrahedrization is one of pre-processing steps for 4-D space interpolation. The quality of a piecewise linear interpolation 4-D space depends not only on the distribution of the data points in $R^2$, but also on the data values. We show that the quality of approximation can be improved by data dependent tetraheadrization through visualization of 4-D space. This paper discusses Delaunary tetrahedrization method(sphere criterion) and one of the data dependent tetrahedrization methods(least squares fitting criterion). This paper also discusses new data dependent criteria:1) gradient difference, and 2) jump in normal direction derivative.

  • Aortic valve stenosis is a heart valve disease caused by the accumulation of calcium in the valve, which can divide into tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) stenosis and bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) stenosis depending on the shape of natural valve. In this study, pig heart-based TAV and BAV ex vivo models were fabricated, and the flow characteristics behind a valve were analyzed using 4D flow MRI. Flow behind normal TAV was uniformly distributed, while BAV asymmetrically opened with an eccentric strong jet. Especially, BAV ex vivo model exhibited a secondary flow in the region where the valve closed. In addition, BAV had a 26% higher peak velocity while maintaining similar stroke volume compared with normal TAV. This study would be helpful for understanding the flow characteristics for BAV AS patients.

  • Flow angle with Swirl in a horizontal circular tube and a cylindrical annuli were experimentally studied for its visualization. This present investigation deals with flow angle, flow visualization studies and vortex core by using oil smoke and a hot wire anemometer for Re = 40,000 and 50000 at X/D = 41, 59 and 71 in a horizontal circular tube. In the swirl air flow, a vortex core was formed at high swirl intensity along the test tube. The flow angle and the vortex core depended on the swirl intensity along the test tube. The results of flow angles with swirl measured by flow visualization and hot wire reasonably agree with those of Sparrow One of the primary objectives of this research was to measure the flow angle with swirl in a cylindrical annuli along the test tube for different Reynolds numbers. The Reynolds number for these measurements ranged from 60,000 to 100,000 with L/D = a to 4.

  • The normal low-cost manufacturing process for freeform vehicle side mirrors causes deviations from the design curvature. Here, an improved manufacturing process is proposed, combining photorealistic ray-traced visualization of each deviation and subsequent analysis of its deviated reflective scene compared to that of the original design. The proposed mechanism successfully highlights the overlap and mismatch regions of deviated reflected scenes with reference to the desired reflective scenes. We benchmarked the robustness of freeform mirror manufacturing by evaluating the 10, 20, and 30% root-mean-square (RMS) deviated curvature, and concluded that the acceptable deviation needs to be below RMS20% to avoid mismatched regions that could mislead the driver.

  • This study presents an in-vitro model designed to simulate mitral valve regurgitation, aiming to compare the quantification results between Proximal Isovelocity Surface Area(PISA) and 4D Flow MRI on both fixed and valve annulus tracking(VAT) views. The in-vitro model replicates the dynamic conditions of the mitral valve in a pulsatile environment, utilizing a piston pump set at 60 bpm. Through systematic experiments and analysis, the study evaluates the accuracy and effectiveness of PISA and 4D Flow MRI in assessing regurgitation severity, considering both fixed and valve annulus tracking. The displacement length measured in echo closely resembled that of optical measurements, making it advantageous for structural analysis. VAT-4D flow MRI exhibited the smallest deviation from actual flow rate values, establishing it as most accurate method for quantitative regurgitation assessment.
