In this work, the stability and safety analysis are carried out to predict the performance of a next generation high-speed railway vehicle (HEMU-400X). Since the safety of the high-speed railway vehicles is very important, it is meaningful to predict the dynamic performance and stability of the railway vehicles using a numerical model at a railway vehicle design step. The critical speed of the dynamic model depending on the conicity of the wheel is calculated in the stability analysis. The critical speed calculated in this analysis is over 400km/h for the conicity value of 0.15, which is determined on the basis of representative international standard, UIC 518. Also, the lateral and vertical accelerations at several points of the same dynamic model are calculated for the safety analysis. In the simulation, the dynamic model runs at the test speed of 440km/h, which is determined considering a maximum target speed, and the total driving distance is 30km. And those estimated values are less than the allowed maximum acceleration values of UIC 518.
This paper is a study of testing on-board signalling equipment in advanced high speed rail at the maximum speed of 400km/h. The on-board signalling equipment in advanced high speed rail provides operating information to the driver when operating at ATC, ATS, and ATP sections, and maintains safety from driver oversight, signalling equipment malfunction, natural disasters and so on. Since the testing train performance of advanced high speed rail at 400km/h must include the function test of on-board signalling equipment, this thesis focuses on the function test of on-board signalling equipment and analyze the necessity of the test at the maximum speed. Finally, it is suggested to change some infrastructure and to use specific test methods to test the train performance at the maximum speed in high speed line ATC section.

This study examined the change in driving performance according to the starting position of the rear diffuser of a vehicle. To accomplish this, the CATIA 3D design program was used to model the vehicle with reference to a commercial SUV vehicle and design the rear diffuser to start from 300, 400, and 500 mm from the rear tire. The flow and drag change were analyzed and the change in air flow was confirmed using Fluent, a flow analysis program at a vehicle traveling speed of 60, 100, and 140 km/h. The rear diffuser reduced the lift and drag forces compared to no diffuser regardless of the starting position. This is because if there is a rear diffuser, it will reduce the vortex phenomenon by suppressing the flow separation that occurs when air is drawn out from the rear portion of the vehicle. In this study, the starting point SP 400 was determined to be the optimal condition because the lift force was the smallest at SP 400 and the lift reduction effect was the best.
As we see the continuation of the increase in the speed of the High Speed railroad worldwide, there is a concern for a possible problem in the connecting transition zone in the railway infrastructure. Honam High Speed railroad's transition zone in the hub for the rotation structures and other supporting structures such as approach slab, sub slab, approach block, etc. Due to its increase in speed of the design speed, and its important role on the driving stability and credibility of the bearing ground performance, we must seek and fine a prevention plan for a cause of differential settlement, as well as the cause of the derailment. In this dissertation, domestic, as well as international design manuals and the applicability of the control standards are studied. Also through the study target, Honam High Speed railroad zone 4-1, we evaluated the connecting componant of the Yeon-Jeong bridge through the eigenvalue and weight transfer of the train when operated at 300km/h, 350km/h, 400km/h, 450km/h, and were able to achieve detailed assessment by checking track behaviors, looking at various components such as the rotation acceleration according to the inversion of the distance length, displace length, displacement and stress distribution. Through these studied, possibility of operating at 400km/h was evaluated based on the condition of the current design basis.
Societal interest on a faster transportation demands an increase of the train speed exceeding current operation speed of 350 km/h. To trace the pattern of variations in displacements and subsoil stresses in the concrete slab track system, finite element simulations were conducted. For a simple track-vehicle modeling, a mass-point system representing the moving train load was developed. Dynamic responses with various train speeds from 100 to 700 km/h were investigated. As train speeds increase the displacement at rail and subsoil increases nonlinearly, whereas significant dynamic amplification at the critical velocity has not been found. At low train speed, the velocity of elastic wave carrying elastic energy is faster than the train speed. At high train speed exceeding 400 km/h, however, the train speed is approximately identical to the elastic wave velocity. Nonlinearity in the stress history in subsoil is amplified with increasing train speeds, which may cause significant plastic strains in path-dependent subsoil materials.
The HEMU-400X(High-speed Electric Multiple Unit 400km/h experiment) project starts last fear. It is required to control and balance the systems engineering activities throughout the project life cycle for a successful completion of the project. This paper proposes the systems engineering management plan for the HEMU-400X project.
The speed of rail vehicles become higher and higher over two decades, and China has unveiled a prototype high-speed train in October 2020 that has been able to reach 400 km/h. At such high speeds, wheel-rail force items that had previously been ignored in common computational model should be reevaluated and reconsidered. Aiming at this problem, a new model for investigating the vehicle-bridge interaction at high moving speed is proposed. Comparing with the common model, the new model was more accurate and applicable, because it additionally considers the second-order pseudo-inertia forces effect and its modeling equilibrium position was based on the initial deformed curve of bridge, which could include the influences of temperature, pre-camber, shrinkage and creep deformation, and pier uneven settlement, etc. Taking 5 km/h as the speed interval, the dynamic responses of the classical vehicle-bridge system in the speed range of 5 km/h to 400 km/h are studied. The results show that ignoring the second-order pseudo-inertia force will underestimate the dynamic response of vehicle-bridge system and make the high-speed railway bridge structure design unsafe.
Pantograph aerodynamic noise is a major cause of noise that occurs when a train is traveling at high speeds. In this study, in order to analyze the contribution of pantograph aerodynamic noise, real train tests using HEMU-430X were carried out. In order to analyze the frequency characteristic of the noise of the pantograph in an actual vehicle, a sound field visualization has been carried out using a 144-channel microphone array at train speeds of 350 and 400km/h. As a result, it was confirmed that the low frequency noise in the 250~400Hz bandwidth provides the main contribution to the pantograph noise. And, in order to estimate the noise contribution of the pantograph, the noise level difference between cases in which the pantograph is ascending and those in which it is descending were compared in single microphone experiments. The frequency analysis in the single microphone tests showed that the bands of 315~400Hz and 1000~1250Hz are the main frequency characteristics of pantograph noise. These results show quite good agreement with those of previous studies and with results of sound field visualization.
It is necessary to receive telegrams transmitted by transponder tags installed along the track in order to detect the exact position of a high-speed train. In a high-speed railway environment, telegrams can be corrupted by the electromagnetic interference that comes from onboard electric train power equipment or wayside devices. In this study, we verified the railway environment compatibility of a high-speed transponder system developed as a train position detection system. We installed transponder tags on the Honam high-speed line and measured the number of error-free telegrams received from the transponder tag while the HEMU-430X was running at 268km/h~334km/h. Based on the measurement, we estimated the length of the contact zone formed between the transponder reader and tag. Field test results allow us to estimate how many error-free telegrams can be received when HEMU-430X is at speeds up to 400km/h.
