Disparity Estimation Algorithm using Variable Blocks and Search Ranges (가변블록 및 가변 탐색구간을 이용한 시차추정 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient block-based disparity estimation algorithm fur multiple view image coding in EE2 and EE3 in 3DAV. The proposed method emphasizes on visual quality improvement to satisfy the requirements for multiple view generation. Therefore, we perform an adaptive disparity estimation that constructs variable blocks by considering given image features. Examining neighboring features around desired block search range is set up to decrease complexity and additional information than only using quad-tree coding through applying binary-tree and quad-tree coding by taking into account stereo image feature having big disparity. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves PSNR about 1 to 2dB compared to existing other methods and decreases computational complexity up to maximum 68 percentages than FBMA.

Digital Hologram Compression Technique By Hybrid Video Coding (하이브리드 비디오 코팅에 의한 디지털 홀로그램 압축기술)

  • According as base of digital hologram has been magnified, discussion of compression technology is expected as a international standard which defines the compression technique of 3D image and video has been progressed in form of 3DAV which is a part of MPEG. As we can identify in case of 3DAV, the coding technique has high possibility to be formed into the hybrid type which is a merged, refined, or mixid with the various previous technique. Therefore, we wish to present the relationship between various image/video coding techniques and digital hologram In this paper, we propose an efficient coding method of digital hologram using standard compression tools for video and image. At first, we convert fringe patterns into video data using a principle of CGH(Computer Generated Hologram), and then encode it. In this research, we propose a compression algorithm is made up of various method such as pre-processing for transform, local segmentation with global information of object image, frequency transform for coding, scanning to make fringe to video stream, classification of coefficients, and hybrid video coding. Finally the proposed hybrid compression algorithm is all of these methods. The tool for still image coding is JPEG2000, and the toots for video coding include various international compression algorithm such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and H.264 and various lossless compression algorithm. The proposed algorithm illustrated that it have better properties for reconstruction than the previous researches on far greater compression rate above from four times to eight times as much. Therefore we expect that the proposed technique for digital hologram coding is to be a good preceding research.

Adaptive Spatio-Temporal Prediction for Multi-view Coding in 3D-Video (3차원 비디오 압축에서의 다시점 부호화를 위한 적응적 시공간적 예측 부호화)

  • In this paper, an adaptive spatio-temporal predictive coding based on the H.264 is proposed for 3D immersive media encoding, such as 3D image processing, 3DTV, and 3D videoconferencing. First, we propose a spatio-temporal predictive coding using the same view and inter-view images for the two TPPP, IBBP GOP (group of picture) structures 4hat are different from the conventional simulcast method. Second, an 2D inter-view direct mode for the efficient prediction is proposed when the proposed spatio-temporal prediction uses the IBBP structure. The 2D inter-view direct mode is applied when the temporal direct mode in B(hi-Predictive) picture of the H.264 refers to an inter-view image, since the current temporal direct mode in the H.264 standard could no: be applied to the inter-view image. The proposed method is compared to the conventional simulcast method in terms of PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) for the various 3D test video sequences. The proposed method shows better PSNR results than the conventional simulcast mode.

Multi-view Video Codec for 3DTV (3DTV를 위한 다시점 동영상 부호화 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-view video codec for 3DTV system. The proposed algorithm is not only to reduce the temporal and spatial redundancy but also to reduce the redundancy among each view. With these results, we can improve the coding efficiency for multi-view video sequences. In order to reduce the redundancy of each view more efficiently, we define the assembled image(AI) that is generated by the global disparity compensation of each view. In addition, the proposed algorithm is based on MPEG-2 structure so that we can easily implement 3DTV system without changing the conventional 2D digital TV system. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs very well. It also performs better than MPEG-2 simulcast coding method. The newly proposed codec also supports the view scalability, accurate temporal synchronization among multiple views and random access capability in view dimension.
