In the field of shipbuilding design, the use of 3D CAD is becoming commonplace, and most of the large shipyards are conducting 3D design. However at the production site, workers are still working on 2D drawings rather than 3D models. This tendency is even worse in small-scale shipyards and block manufacturing shops. Particularly, in a manufacturing shop that is engaged in the outsourcing of blocks, it may not be possible to provide 3D model. However, the demand for 3D models in the production field is steadily increasing. Therefore, it would be helpful if 3D model could be generated from a 2D drawing. In this paper, we propose a method to extract template and unfolded surface shape information from shell template offset drawing using computer vision technology. Also a 3D surface model was reconstructed and visualized from the extracted information. The result of this study is thought to be helpful in the work environment where 3D model information can not be obtained.
At the paper the method of 3D holographic moving image reconstruction is discused. The main idea of this method is based on the substitution of optically created static hologram by equal diffraction array created by acoustical (AO) field which formed by bulk sound waves. Such sound field can be considered as dynamic optical hologram, which is electrically controlled. At the certain moment of time when the whole hologram already formed, the reference optical beam illuminates it, and due to acoustooptical interaction the original optical image is reconstructed. As the acoustically created dynamic optical hologram is electronically controlled, it can be used for moving 3-dimentional scene reconstruction in real time. The architecture of holographic display for moving scene reconstruction is presented at this paper. The calculated variant of such display laboratory model is. given and discussed. The mathematical simulation of step by step images recording and reconstruction is given. The pictures of calculated reconstructed images are presented. The prospects, application areas, shortcomings and main problems are discussed.

This paper presented an effective strategy to extract the buildings and to reconstruct 3-D buildings using high-resolution multispectral stereo satellite images. Proposed scheme contained three major steps: building enhancement and segmentation using both BDT (Background Discriminant Transformation) and ISODATA algorithm, conjugate building identification using the object matching with Hausdorff distance and color indexing, and 3-D building reconstruction using photogrammetric techniques. IKONOS multispectral stereo images were used to evaluate the scheme. As a result, the BDT technique was verified as an effective tool for enhancing building areas since BDT suppressed the dominance of background to enhance the building as a non-background. In building recognition, color information itself was not enough to identify the conjugate building pairs since most buildings are composed of similar materials such as concrete. When both Hausdorff distance for edge information and color indexing for color information were combined, most segmented buildings in the stereo images were correctly identified. Finally, 3-D building models were successfully generated using the space intersection by the forward RFM (Rational Function Model).
Usually in South Korea, land cover type and topographic undulation are frequently changed even in a narrow area. However, most of researches using aerial LIDAR(LIght Detection And Ranging) data in abroad had been acquired in the study areas to be changed infrequently. This research was performed to explore reconstruction methodologies of 3D surface models considering the distribution of land cover type and topographic undulation. Composed of variously undulatory forests, rocky river beds and man-made land cover such as streets, trees, buildings, parking lots and so on, an area was selected for the research. First of all, the area was divided into three zones based on land cover type and topographic undulation using its aerial ortho-photo. Then, aerial LIDAR data was clipped by each zone and different 3D modeling processes were applied to each clipped data before integration of each models and reconstruction of overall model. These kinds of processes might be effectively applied to landscape management, forest inventory and digital map composition. Besides, they would be useful to resolve less- or over-extracted problems caused by simple rectangle zoning when an usual data processing of aerial LIDAR.

We can use panorama systems or image based modeling systems when we want to make 3D space model and look around result. Panorama systems make 3D model to stitch images and map cylinder or cube. The structure of 3D model, made by panorama system, is not same as structure of a real room, so user can't infer a real structure. Typically, Image based modeling systems work on a desktop computer. That makes it difficult to reconstruct 3D model in real time and take long time for processing. In this paper, we propose a 3D panorama modeling system that uses images on a mobile device. This system reconstructs a 3D space model, similar with a real room in real time, from multiple images captured part of rooms. Using this system, user can reconstruct various shape of space and look around a 3D space model.

A structured beam laser is often used to scan object and make 3D model. Multiple cameras are inevitable to see occluded areas, which is the main reason of the high price of the scanner. In this paper, a low cost 3D foot scanner is developed using one camera and two mirrors. The camera and two mirrors are located below and above the foot, respectively. Occluded area, which is the top of the foot, is reflected by the mirrors. Then the camera measures 3D point data of the bottom and top of the foot at the same time. Then, the whole foot model is reconstructed after symmetrical transformation of the data reflected by mirrors. The reliability of the scan data depends on the accuracy of the parameters between the camera and the laser. A calibration method is also proposed and verified by experiments. The results of the experiments show that the worst errors of the system are 2 mm along x, y, and z directions.
CT/MRI images were frequently taken to evaluate the anatomic structure and disease status, and to plan the treatment modality for oral and maxillofacial surgery. However, surgeons have many difficulties in reading and understanding 2D images without long time experiences. This study presents the method of 3D reconstruction with fine CT slices and its clinical application. We applied this method a clinical patient with oral and maxillofacial trauma and produced 3D reconstructed model which shows the fracture line in panfacial area and bone defect.

Recently, at home and abroad cultural content industry has developed as the growing importance of history. Among them, the reconstruction contents area which combined with IT technology is attracting attention. Specially, using augmented reality technology, 3D visualization researches which restore contents of architectural heritage, cultural heritage sites, and artifacts have been performed in cultural content area. The existing cultural site restore contents are mostly made based on the images taken from indoor. In this paper, efficiently visualize the restore contents in indoor, but outdoors is limited. This theses presents the cultural heritage sites 3D model visualization system using augmented reality in outdoor. Proposed system augments 3D model to cultural heritage site in outdoor by using Smart Phone.

Purpose: Conventional image reconstruction uses simplified physical models of projection. However, real physics, for example 3D reconstruction, takes too long time to process all the data in clinic and is unable in a common reconstruction machine because of the large memory for complex physical models. We suggest the realistic distributed memory model of fast-reconstruction using parallel processing on personal computers to enable large-scale technologies. Materials and Methods: The preliminary tests for the possibility on virtual manchines and various performance test on commercial super computer, Tachyon were performed. Expectation maximization algorithm with common 2D projection and realistic 3D line of response were tested. Since the process time was getting slower (max 6 times) after a certain iteration, optimization for compiler was performed to maximize the efficiency of parallelization. Results: Parallel processing of a program on multiple computers was available on Linux with MPICH and NFS. We verified that differences between parallel processed image and single processed image at the same iterations were under the significant digits of floating point number, about 6 bit. Double processors showed good efficiency (1.96 times) of parallel computing. Delay phenomenon was solved by vectorization method using SSE. Conclusion: Through the study, realistic parallel computing system in clinic was established to be able to reconstruct by plenty of memory using the realistic physical models which was impossible to simplify.

It is still very difficult to generate a geometry model and finite element model, which has complex and many free surface, even though 3D CAD solutions are applied. Furthermore, in the medical field, which is a big growth area of recent years, there is no drawing. For these reasons, making a geometry model, which is used in finite element analysis, is very difficult. To resolve these problems and satisfy the requests of the need to create a 3D digital file for an object where none had existed before, new technologies are appeared recently. Among the recent technologies, there is a growing interest in the availability of fast, affordable optical range laser scanning. The development of 3D laser scan technology to obtain 3D point cloud data, made it possible to generate 3D model of complex object. To generate CAD and finite element model using point cloud data from 3D scanning, surface reconstruction applications have widely used. In the early stage, these applications have many difficulties, such as data handling, model creation time and so on. Recently developed point-based surface generation applications partly resolve these difficulties. However there are still many problems. In case of large and complex object scanning, generation of CAD and finite element model has a significant amount of working time and effort. Hence, we concerned developing a good direct finite element model generation method using point cloud's location coordinate value to save working time and obtain accurate finite element model.
