A Comparative Study of Reconstruction Methods for LDV Spectral Analysis (LDV 스펙트럼 분석을 위한 재생방법의 비교 연구)

  • A critical evaluation is made of the spectral bias which occurs in the use of a laser doppler velocimeter(LDV). Two processing algorithms are considered for spectral estimates: the sample and hold interpolation method(SH) and the nonuniform Shannon reconstruction technique(SR). Assessment is made of these for varying data densities $(0.05{\le}d.d.{\le}5)$ and turbulence levels(t.i.=30%, 100%). As an improved version of the spectral estimator, the utility of POCS (the projection onto convex sets) has been tested in the present study. This algorithm is found useful to be in the region when $d.d.{\gep}3.$

  • Researches of image-based 3D reconstruction have recently produced a number of good results, but they assumed that the accurate foreground to be reconstructed is already extracted from each input image. This paper proposes a novel approach to extract more accurate foregrounds by iteratively performing foreground extraction and 3D reconstruction in a manner similar to an EM algorithm on regions segmented in an initial stage, called segments. Here, the segments should preserve foreground boundaries to compensate for the boundary errors generated by visual hull, simple 3D reconstruction to minimize the computational time, and should also be composed of the small number of sets to minimize the user input. Therefore, we utilize image segmentation using the graph-cuts method, which minimizes energy function composed of data and smoothness terms, and the two methods are iteratively performed until the energy function is optimized. In the experiments, more accurate results of the foreground, especially in boundaries, were obtained, although the proposed method used a simple 3D reconstruction method.

  • In this paper, we proposed a three-dimensional(3D) scanning system based on laser vision technique for 3D model reconstruction. The proposed scanning system consists of line laser, camera, and turntable. We implemented the 3D scanning system using low quality elements. Although these are low quality elements, we reduced the 3D data reconstruction errors greatly using two methods. First, we developed a maximum brightness detection algorithm. This algorithm extracts the maximum brightness of the line laser to obtain the shape of the object. Second, we designed a new laser control device. This device helps to adjust the relative position of the turntable and line laser. These two methods greatly reduce the measuring noise. As a result, point cloud data can be obtained without complicated calculations.

  • Laser scanning is a new technology for obtaining Digital Surface Models(DSM) of the earth surface.It is a fast method for sampling the earth surface with high density and high point accuracy. This paper is for buildings extraction from LiDAR points data. The core part of building construction is based on a parameters filter for distinguishing between terrain and non-terrain laser points. The 3D geometrical properties of the building facades are obtained based on plane fitting using least-squares adjustment. The reconstruction part of the procedure is based on the adjacency among the roof facades. Primitive extraction and facade intersections are used for building reconstruction. For overcome the difficulty just reconstruct of laser points data used with digital camera images. Also, 3D buildings of city area reconstructed using digital map. Finally, In this paper show 3D building Modeling using digital map and LiDAR data.

3D Printed Titanium Implant for the Skull Reconstruction: A Preliminary Case Study

  • The skull defect can be made after the trauma, oncologic problems or neurosurgery. The skull reconstruction has been the challenging issue in craniofacial fields for a long time. So far the skull reconstruction with autogenous bone would be the standard. Although the autogenous bone would be the ideal one for skull reconstruction, donor site morbidity would be the inevitable problem in many cases. Meanwhile various types of allogenic and alloplastic materials have been also used. However, skull reconstruction with many alloplastic material have produced no less complications including infection, exposure, and delayed wound healing. Because the 3D printing technique evolved so fast that 3D printed titanium implant were possible recently. The aim of this trial is to try to restore the original skull anatomy as possible using the 3D printed titanium implant, based on the mirrored three dimensional CT images based on the computer simulation. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) data were processed for the patient and a rapid prototyping (RP) model was produced. At the same time, the uninjured side was mirrored and superimposed onto the traumatized side, to create a mirror-image of the RP model. And we fabricated Titanium implant to reconstruct three-dimensional orbital structure in advance, using the 3D printer. This prefabricated Titanium-implant was then inserted onto the defected skull and fixed. Three dimensional printing technique of titanium material based on the computer simulation turned out to be very successful in this patient. Individualized approach for each patient could be an ideal way to manage the traumatic patients in near future.

  • A mirror neuron is a neuron fires both when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action performed by another. We propose a method of 3D reconstruction for occluded object motion tracking like Mirror Neuron System to fire in hidden condition. For modeling system that intention recognition through fire effect like Mirror Neuron System, we calculate depth information using stereo image from a stereo camera and reconstruct three dimension data. Movement direction of object is estimated by optical flow with three-dimensional image data created by three dimension reconstruction. For three dimension reconstruction that enables tracing occluded part, first, picture data was get by stereo camera. Result of optical flow is made be robust to noise by the kalman filter estimation algorithm. Image data is saved as history from reconstructed three dimension image through motion tracking of object. When whole or some part of object is disappeared form stereo camera by other objects, it is restored to bring image date form history of saved past image and track motion of object.

  • Method for 3D reconstruction from image points and geometric clues can be roughly classified as "model-based" and "constraint-based". We present a new method to reconstruct from one image a scene using depth-point. The our method is benchmarked synthetic data and its effectiveness is shown on photograph data.

The Manufacture of Custom Made 3D Titanium Implant for Skull Reconstruction

  • Nowadays, with advanced 3D printing techniques, the custom-made implant can be manufactured for the patient. Especially in skull reconstruction, it is difficult to design the implant due to complicated geometry. In large defect, an autograft is inappropriate to cover the defect due to donor morbidity. We present the process of manufacturing the 3D custom-made implant for skull reconstruction. There was one patient with skull defect repaired using custom-made 3D titanium implant in the plastic and reconstructive surgery department. The patient had defect of the left parieto-temporal area after craniectomy due to traumatic subdural hematoma. Custom-made 3D titanium implants were manufactured by Medyssey Co., Ltd. using 3D CT data, Mimics software and an EBM (Electron Beam Melting) machine. The engineer and surgeon reviewed several different designs and simulated a mock surgery on 3D skull model. During the operation, the custom-made implant was fit to the defect properly without dead space. The operative site healed without any specific complications. In skull reconstruction, autograft has been the treatment of choice. However, it is not always available and depends on the size of defect and donor morbidity. As 3D printing technique has been advanced, it is useful to manufacture custom-made implant for skull reconstruction.

3D Building Modeling Using LIDAR Data and Digital Map (LIDAR 데이터와 수치지도를 이용한 3차원 건물모델링)

  • This paper presents a method for point-based 3D building reconstruction using Lidar data and digital map. The proposed method consists of three processes: extraction of building roof points, identification of roof types, and 3D building reconstruction. After extracting points inside the polygon of building, the ground surface, wall and tree points among the extracted points are removed through the filtering process. The filtered points are then fitted into the flat plane using ODR(Orthogonal Distance Regression) in the first place. If the fitting error is within the predefined threshold, the surface is classified as a flat roof. Otherwise, the surface is fitted and classified into a gable or arch roof through RMSE analysis. Experimental results showed that the proposed method classified successfully three different types of roof and that the fusion of LIDAR data and digital map could be a feasible method of modeling 3D building reconstruction.

  • Segmentation and organization of the LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data of the Earth's surface are difficult tasks because the captured LiDAR data are composed of irregularly distributed point clouds with lack of semantic information. The reason for this difficulty in processing LiDAR data is that the data provide huge amount of the spatial coordinates without topological and/or relational information among the points. This study introduces LiDAR data segmentation technique by utilizing histograms of the LiDAR height image data and analyzing roof shape for 3D reconstruction and visualization of the buildings. One of the advantages in utilizing LiDAR height image data is no registration required because the LiDAR data are geo-referenced and ortho-projected data. In consequence, measurements on the image provide absolute reference coordinates. The LiDAR image allows measurement of the initial building boundaries to estimate locations of the side walls and to form the planar surfaces which represent approximate building footprints. LiDAR points close to each side wall were grouped together then the least-square planar surface fitting with the segmented point clouds was performed to determine precise location of each wall of an building. Finally, roof shape analysis was performed by accumulated slopes along the profiles of the roof top. However, simulated LiDAR data were used for analyzing roof shape because buildings with various shapes of the roof do not exist in the test area. The proposed approach has been tested on the heavily built-up urban residential area. 3D digital vector map produced by digitizing complied aerial photographs was used to evaluate accuracy of the results. Experimental results show efficiency of the proposed methodology for 3D building reconstruction and large scale digital mapping especially for the urban area.
