  • Until recently, GIS technology was mainly based on 2D for disaster management. Necessity of 3D spatial information came to the fore with a speedy and accurate response system in disaster management. However, most fire-fighting facilities presently use CAD with 2D formation, Image drawings, and conception of construction data's formation. It is not about the drawings in map production. It's about varieties of construction ways or contents. In this study, we are proposing the ways on analyzing the existing disaster management targets for 2D technology drawings, designing the 3D spatial information data model, and transforming the effective 3D spatial information into algorithm and dimension spatial information construction for easily building on mass 2D architectural drawings to 3D spatial information effectively in disaster management. We can maxim ize efficient construction time and expenses. Then what is proposed in this study about constructing 3D spatial information for manual work, and it's significance for improving decisive decisions and utilizing the tasks to prevent, prepare, respond and restore steps in disaster management.

  • As human beings spend more time indoors, and with the growing complexity of indoor spaces, more focus is given to indoor spatial applications and services. 3D topological networks are used for various spatial applications that involve navigation indoors such as emergency evacuation, indoor positioning, and visualization. Manually generating indoor network data is impractical and prone to errors, yet current methods in automation need expensive sensors or datasets that are difficult and expensive to obtain and process. In this research, a methodology for semi-automatically generating a 3D indoor topological model based on IndoorGML (Indoor Geographic Markup Language) is proposed. The concept of Shooting Point is defined to accommodate the usage of omnidirectional images in generating IndoorGML data. Omnidirectional images were captured at selected Shooting Points in the building using a fisheye camera lens and rotator and indoor spaces are then identified using image processing implemented in Python. Relative positions of spaces obtained from CAD (Computer-Assisted Drawing) were used to generate 3D node-relation graphs representing adjacency, connectivity, and accessibility in the study area. Subspacing is performed to more accurately depict large indoor spaces and actual pedestrian movement. Since the images provide very realistic visualization, the topological relationships were used to link them to produce an indoor virtual tour.

  • The shapes(mass) of buildings are determined by many interrelated factors, such as planning and building regulations, the size and shape of building parcels, and adjoining road conditions. Understanding the effects of the determinants on the building shapes is not a simple task because of the multiplicity and complex interrelationships of the determinants. This study developed a prototype of three dimensional computer model that can simulates the determination process of building shape using GIS and CAD techniques. A commercial block in the south of Seoul was selected for the case study. Several methods of building height control were applied, and their effects on the cityscape were evaluated. The results shows that the three dimensional computer modelling offers an effective means for evaluating the effects of planning and building regulations. The implication of the case study and future research directions were discussed.

  • 3D models in urban areas are essential for a variety of applications, such as virtual visualization, GIS, and mobile communications. LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a relatively new technology for obtaining Digital Terrain Models (DTM) of the earth's surface since manual 3D data reconstruction is very costly and time consuming. In this paper an approach to extract ground and non-ground points data from LIDAR data by using filtering is presented and the accuracy for generating DTM from ground points data is evaluated. Numerous filter algorithms have been developed to date. To determine the performance of filtering, we selected three filters which are based on the concepts for height difference, slope, and morphology, and also were applied two different data acquired from high raised apartments areas and low house areas. From the results it has been found that the accuracy for generating DTM from LIDAR data are 0.16 m and 0.59 m in high raised apartments areas and low house areas respectively. We expect that LIDAR data is used to generate the accurate DTM in urban areas.

  • Researches in the field of Computer Graphics and Geographical Information Systems(GIS) have extensively studied the method of photo-realistic landscape modelling, because it have become a commom requirement in applications such as flight simulators, mission rehearsal, and construction planning. A common approach to the display of terrain uses a Digital Elevation Model(DEM). DEM is an evenly spaced array of the terrain elevation data and can be obtained from stereo satellite data. With the DEM data, the process of 3D terrain modelling consists of three steps. The first step is to extract the meaningful data (such as peak, pit, passes...) from DEM data based on LOD(Level Of Detail) criteria. The second is to construct the 3D surface by TIN, which represents a surface as a set of non-overlapping continuous triangular facets of irregular size and shape. The third is a rendering of 3D terrain model. The goal of this research is a construction of 3D terrain with TIN. To do this, we are going to app]y Radial Sweep Algorithm. Radial Sweep Algorithm for generating TIN works quickly and efficiently. However, it does not solve the problem caused by the approximated nature of triangulated surface. To solve this problem, this research derive improved radial sweep algorithms with the optimal triangle definition.

  • To organize training in limited training area for an actuai combat, realistic training simulation plugged in by various battle conditions is essential. In this paper, we propose a virtual target overlay technique which does not use a virtual image, but Projects a virtual target on ground-based CCD image by appointed scenario for a realistic training simulation. In the proposed method, we create a realistic 3D model (for an instructor) by using high resolution Geographic Tag Image File Format(GeoTIFF) satellite image and Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED), and extract the road area from a given CCD image (for both an instructor and a trainee). Satellite images and ground-based sensor images have many differences in observation position, resolution, and scale, thus yielding many difficulties in feature-based matching. Hence, we propose a moving synchronization technique that projects the target on the sensor image according to the marked moving path on 3D satellite image by applying Thin-Plate Spline(TPS) interpolation function, which is an image warping function, on the two given sets of corresponding control point pair. To show the experimental result of the proposed method, we employed two Pentium4 1.8MHz personal computer systems equipped with 512MBs of RAM, and the satellite and sensor images of Daejoen area are also been utilized. The experimental result revealed the effective-ness of proposed algorithm.

  • Recently, with the urban redevelopment and the spread of the planned cities, there is increasing interest in the wind environment, which is related not only to design of buildings and landscaping but also to the comfortability of pedestrians. Numerical analysis for wind environment prediction is underway in many fields, such as dense areas of high-rise building or composition of the apartment complexes, a precisive 3D building model is essentially required in this process. Many studies conducted for wind environment analysis have typically used the method of creating a 3D model by utilizing the building layer included in the GIS (Geographic Information System) data. These data can easily and quickly observe the flow of atmosphere in a wide urban environment, but cannot be suitable for observing precisive flow of atmosphere, and in particular, the effect of a complicated structure of a single building on the flow of atmosphere cannot be calculated. Recently, drone photogrammetry has shown the advantage of being able to automatically perform building modeling based on a large number of images. In this study, we applied photogrammetry technology using a drone to evaluate the flow of atmosphere around two buildings located close to each other. Two 3D models were made into an automatic modeling technique and manual modeling technique. Auto-modeling technique is using an automatically generates a point cloud through photogrammetry and generating models through interpolation, and manual-modeling technique is a manually operated technique that individually generates 3D models based on point clouds. And then the flow of atmosphere for the two models was compared and analyzed. As a result, the wind environment of the two models showed a clear difference, and the model created by auto-modeling showed faster flow of atmosphere than the model created by manual modeling. Also in the case of the 3D mesh generated by auto-modeling showed the limitation of not proceeding an accurate analysis because the precise 3D shape was not reproduced in the closed area such as the porch of the building or the bridge between buildings.

  • It is difficult for systematic and flexible control reflecting regional characteristics with only public policies that control the landscape. Also, in the event that there is no preceding quantitative index calculation, it is impossible for the public society to come to an agreement. Therefore, the development of a shielding analysis simulation methodology that makes data processing modeling that can be interlinked with the urban information system is a very meaningful study. Thus, this study presents urban space shielding simulation technologies and quantitative analysis methodologies using 3D graphic engines and deduces the optimal design by integrating the data of the geographic information system (GIS) in order to suggest the potential as an analysis model that can be used in future urban information systems.
