Subchannel code is one of the effective simulation tools for thermal-hydraulic analysis in nuclear reactor core. In order to reduce the computational cost and improve the calculation efficiency, empirical correlation of turbulent mixing coefficient is employed to calculate the lateral mixing velocity between adjacent subchannels. However, correlations utilized currently are often fitted from data achieved in central channel of fuel assembly, which would simply neglect the wall effects. In this paper, the CFD approach based on spectral element method is employed to predict turbulent mixing phenomena through gaps in 3 × 3 bare tight lattice rod bundle and investigate the flow pulsation through gaps in different positions. Re = 5000,10000,20500 and P/D = 1.03 and 1.06 have been covered in the simulation cases. With a well verified mesh, lateral velocities at gap center between corner channel and wall channel (W-Co), wall channel and wall channel (W-W), wall channel and center channel (W-C) as well as center channel and center channel (C-C) are collected and compared with each other. The obvious turbulent mixing distributions are presented in the different channels of rod bundle. The peak frequency values at W-Co channel could have about 40%-50% reduction comparing with the C-C channel value and the turbulent mixing coefficient β could decrease around 25%. corrections for β should be performed in subchannel code at wall channel and corner channel for a reasonable prediction result. A preliminary analysis on fluctuation at channel gap has also performed. Eddy cascade should be considered carefully in detailed analysis for fluctuating in rod bundle.
Inductive power transfer (IPT) technology allows for charging of electric vehicles with security, convenience and efficiency. However, the IPT system performance is mainly affected by the magnetic coupling structure which is largely determined by the coupling coefficient. In order to get this applied to electric vehicle charging systems, the power pads should be able to transmit stronger power and be able to better sustain various forms of deviations in terms of vertical, horizontal direction and center rotation. Thus, a novel cross-shaped magnetic coupling structure for IPT charging systems is proposed. Then an optimal cross-shaped magnetic coupling structure by 3-D finite-element analysis software is obtained. At marking locations with average parking capacity and no electronic device support, a prototype of a 720*720mm cross-shaped pad is made to transmit 5kW power at a 200mm air gap, providing a $1.54m^2$ full-power free charging zone. Finally, the leakage magnetic flux density is measured. It indicates that the proposed cross-shaped pad can meet the requirements of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) according to the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA).
On the contrary of a conventional motor with very narrow air-gap. it is difficult to calculate the accurate magnetic field distribution and the performance of an air-cored superconducting motor by 2 dimensional analysis. which does not use high permeability material except outer machine shield. This paper aims to do analysis of magnetic field and force distribution from the 3 dimensional modelling of a 1MW class superconducting synchronous motor. Especially. the field coil composed of Bi-2223 high-temperature superconductor and the outer machine shield are modelled by finite element analysis software according to their structures and the self-inductance and Lorentz force are calculated based on the 3 dimensional magnetic field calculation. Moreover. the influence of an important parameter, synchronous reactance, has been analyzed on the machine performances such as voltage variation and output power.
The objective of this study is to analyze the mechanical splicing characteristic of the threaded bar according to the contact conditions of the transverse rib. In order to consider the contact conditions of the rib, selection of the main variables including the gap of the core diameter ($l_c$), rib angle (${\theta}$), and the number of contacts ($C_N$) of transverse rib was done. So as to analyze the splicing characteristic of the D51 threaded bar, a finite element (FE) simulation of the tensile test was conducted using the designed D51 threaded bar and coupler. Through FE simulation results, it was verified that the mechanical slicing characteristics varied based on the main design variables ($l_c$, ${\theta}$, and $C_N$). It was further confirmed that it was important to determine the $C_N$ in consideration of $l_c$. Additionally, the tensile test results of the D25 and D51 threaded bar combined with the couplers were similar to FE simulation results. Furthermore, to quantitatively evaluate FE simulation and test results, the calculation equation for the contacted projection area ratio (R) of the transverse rib was proposed. To secure a mechanical splicing joint of the threaded bar, it was established that the R calculated using the proposed equation had to be greater or equal to 40%.

Gas avalanche microdetectors, such as micro-strip gas chamber (MSGC), micro-gap chamber (MGC), micro-dot chamber (MDOT), etc., are operated under high voltage to induce large electron avalanche signal around micro-size anodes. Therefore, the anodes are highly exposed to electrical damage, for example, sparking because of the interaction between high electric field strength and charge multiplication around the anodes. Gas electron multiplier (GEM) is a charge preamplifying device in which charge multiplication can be confined, so that it makes that the charge multiplication region can be separate from the readout micro-anodes in 9as avalanche microdetectors possible. Primary electron collection efficiency is an important measure for the GEM performance. We have defined that the primary electron collection efficiency is the fractional number of electron trajectories reaching to the collection plane from the drift plane through the GEM holes. The electron trajectories were estimated based on 3-dimensional (3D) finite element method (FEM). In this paper, we present the primary electron collection efficiency with respect to various GEM operation parameters. This simulation work will be very useful for the better design of the GEM.

In this paper, we propose an FSSH(Folded Slot Spherical Helix) magnetic dipole antenna with a form factor easy to build and study its radiation properties. The number of folded arms, the gap between them and the metal thickness are tuned to achieve relatively simple structure to realize whereas maintaining high radiation efficiency at an electrically small size. The proposed design shows wide radiation efficiency bandwidth and it is confirmed by circuit simulation that the non-Foster impedance matching techniques could be utilized for its practical use. The prototype of the proposed antenna is built with the aid of an SLS(Selective Laser Sintering) 3D printing technology. The measured result shows lower Q impedance characteristic due to high resistive loss of the copper tape joints.
The Canton Tower (formerly named Guangzhou New TV Tower) of 610 m high has been instrumented with a long-term structural health monitoring (SHM) system consisting of over 700 sensors of sixteen types. Under the auspices of the Asian-Pacific Network of Centers for Research in Smart Structures Technology (ANCRiSST), an SHM benchmark problem for high-rise structures has been developed by taking the instrumented Canton Tower as a host structure. This benchmark problem aims to provide an international platform for direct comparison of various SHM-related methodologies and algorithms with the use of real-world monitoring data from a large-scale structure, and to narrow the gap that currently exists between the research and the practice of SHM. This paper first briefs the SHM system deployed on the Canton Tower, and the development of an elaborate three-dimensional (3D) full-scale finite element model (FEM) and the validation of the model using the measured modal data of the structure. In succession comes the formulation of an equivalent reduced-order FEM which is developed specifically for the benchmark study. The reduced-order FEM, which comprises 37 beam elements and a total of 185 degrees-of-freedom (DOFs), has been elaborately tuned to coincide well with the full-scale FEM in terms of both modal frequencies and mode shapes. The field measurement data (including those obtained from 20 accelerometers, one anemometer and one temperature sensor) from the Canton Tower, which are available for the benchmark study, are subsequently presented together with a description of the sensor deployment locations and the sensor specifications.

Phononic crystals are composite materials consisting of a periodic arrangement of scattering inclusions in a host material. One of the most important properties of phononic crystals is the existence of band gaps, i.e., ranges of frequencies at which acoustic waves cannot propagate through the structure. The present study aims to investigate theoretically and experimentally the acoustic band structures in two-dimensional (2D) phononic crystals consisting of periodic square arrays of stainless steel solid cylinders with a diameter of 1 mm and a lattice constant of 1.5 mm in water. The theoretical dispersion relation that depicts the relationship between the frequency and the wave vector was calculated along the ${\Gamma}X$ direction of the first Brillouin zone using the finite element method to predict the band structures in the 2D phononic crystals. The transmission and the reflection coefficients were measured in the 2D phononic crystals with 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 layers of stainless steel cylinders stacked in the perpendicular direction to propagation at normal incidence. The theoretical dispersion relation exhibited five band gaps at frequencies below 2 MHz, the first gap appearing around a frequency of 0.5 MHz. The location and the width of the band gaps experimentally observed in the transmission and the reflection coefficients appeared to coincide well with those determined from the theoretical dispersion relation.

In this paper, reinforced concrete structures are modeled and analyzed. Reinforced concrete has been an essential element in the construction and one that is provided for shielding effectiveness at particular frequencies by rebar placed as a set up in the form of a grid. Using commercial 3-dimensional electromagnetic(3D EM) tool to analyze the reinforced concrete structure, the procedure of analysis for reinforced concrete is computed by dividing concrete, rebar and entire reinforced concrete. The spacing of rebar is bigger, transmission coefficient is higher and the diameter of rebar is bigger, transmission coefficient is lower. Also, in case of two layers is analyzed by gap of layers. Using single layer rebar that thickness of rebar given by 10, 20 and 30 mm have transmission coefficient of -1.89, -2.73 and -4.76 dB/10 cm at 500 MHz. Also, two layers rebar obtain -1.89, -2.73 and -4.76 dB/10 cm for same conditions.
