Realtime Fire Simulation and Rendering on Mobile Environment (모바일 환경에서 불꽃의 실시간 시뮬레이션과 렌더링)

  • This paper presents a real-time fire simulation on the mobile phone using stable fluid animation techniques. Stable and fast fluid simulation methods are developed in PC and console games, but fluid simulation and interactive fluid models require too much system resources for applying on mobile environment. We studied and implemented physics-based models for fluids like fire and smoke effects using billboard and stable fluids simulation method on mobile 3D system. The mobile platform of our system is WIPI, which is the standard mobile platform in Korea, also we adopted NF3D API for our 3D programming API. We implemented real-time fire simulation and added it in mobile 3D game, "Rupee Story".

  • This paper presents a fire and smoke animation system using stable fluid animation techniques. Stable and fast fluid simulation methods are developed in PC and console games, but fluid simulation and interactive fluid models still have many problems.   • The realistic Visual Effects using fluid simulation in 3D computer graphics are operated as important factors to improve the quality of images. The process of creating realistic motions of water, fire, explosion by controlling each property of fluid is called fluid simulation. In general, the creation of a fluid simulation concentrates on the main simulation work phase, however an effective method for initial set up is important for the main simulation work. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors involved in the initial emission motion and shape of fluid and propose methods that can efficiently apply this into the initial set up. For the process of the research, first, problems are raised based on related researches, and second, two experiments, 'Dynamic Fluid Emitter Creation' and 'User Design Type Emission Velocity Solution', are conducted for more effective fluid simulation. Through this research, the effective fluid simulation of initial set up phase will be suggested through the user design-type emission control solutions.

CFD simulation of vortex-induced vibration of free-standing hybrid riser

  • This paper presents 3D numerical simulations of a Free Standing Hybrid Riser under Vortex Induced Vibration, with prescribed motion on the top to replace the motion of the buoyancy can. The model is calculated using a fully implicit discretization scheme. The flow field around the riser is computed by solving the Navier-Stokes equations numerically. The fluid domain is discretized using the overset grid approach. Grid points in near-wall regions of riser are of high resolution, while far field flow is in relatively coarse grid. Fluid-structure interaction is accomplished by communication between fluid solver and riser motion solver. Simulation is based on previous experimental data. Two cases are studied with different current speeds, where the motion of the buoyancy can is approximated to a 'banana' shape. A fully three-dimensional CFD approach for VIV simulation for a top side moving Riser has been presented. This paper also presents a simulation of a riser connected to a platform under harmonic regular waves.

Progress of the cavitating flow simulation in cryogenic fluid around 3D objects

  • Since the coupling of cavitation modeling with turbulent flow is the difficulty topic, a numerical simulation for two phase flow remains as one of the challenging issues in the society. This research focuses on the development of numerical code to deal with incompressible two phase flow around conical body combined with cavitation model suggested by Kunz et al. with k-e turbulent model. The simulation results are compared to experimental data to verify the validity of the developed code. The calculation results show very good agreement with experimental observations. Also, the calculation of cavitation in cryogenic fluid is being done by implementing the temperature sensitivity in government equations and it is still in the progress. This code have been being further extended to 3D compressible two phase flow for the study on the fluid dynamics around inducers and impellers in turbo pump system.

  • Natural Phenomena are simulated to make computer users feel verisimilitude and be immersed in games or virtual reality. The important factor in simulating fluid such as water or sea using 3D rendering technology in games or virtual reality is real-time interaction and reality. There are many difficulties in simulating fluid models because it is controlled by many equations of each specific situation and many parameter values. In addition, it needs a lot of time in processing physically-based simulation. In this paper, I suggest simplified fluid-surface model in order to represent interaction between rigid body and fluid, and it can make faster simulation by improved processing. Also, I show movement of fluid surface which is come from collision of rigid body caused by reaction of fluid in representing interaction between rigid body and fluid surface. This natural fluid-surface model suggested in this paper is represented realistically in real-time using fluid dynamics veri similarly. And the fluid-surface model will be applicable in games or animation by realizing it for PC environment to interact with this.

Development of a New Modeling Technique to Simulate 3-dimensional Electroplating System Considering the Effects of Fluid Flow

  • Electroplating is a widely used surface treatment method in the manufacturing process of electronic parts and uniformity of the electrodeposition thickness is very crucial for these applications. Since many variables including fluid flow influence the uniformity of the film, it is difficult to conduct efficient research only by experiments. So many studies using simulation have been carried out. However, the most popular simulation technique, which calculates secondary current distribution, has a limitation on the considering the effects of fluid flow on the deposition behavior. And modified method, which is calculating a tertiary current distribution, is limited to a two-dimensional study of simple shapes because of the massive computational load. In the present study, we propose a new electroplating simulation method that can be applied to complex shapes considering the effect of flow. This new model calculates the electroplating process with three steps. First, the thickness of boundary layers on the surface of the cathode plane and velocity magnitudes at the positions are calculated from the simulation of fluid flow. Next, polarization curves of different velocities are obtained by calculations or experiments. Finally, both results are incorporated into the electroplating simulation program as boundary conditions at the cathode plane. The results of the model showed good agreements with the experimental results, and the effects of fluid flow of electrolytes on the uniformity of deposition thickness was quantitatively predicted.

  • This paper presents a multi-phase fluid simulation that realistically represents small scale details. We achieve this by creating escaped particles based on physical methods. Escaped particles are the remained particles after correcting levelset. Generation of escaped particles in this paper differs from previous works; this fluid simulation is extended by adding lift force and drag force to positive escaped particles. And negative escaped particles represent droplet or splash effect; when they are merged into the negative levelset value, they affect the nodes' velocity (two-way coupling). This simulation that uses positive and negative escaped particles deals with detailed fluid motions dynamically in small scale.

Numerical simulation of wave slamming on 3D offshore platform deck using a coupled Level-Set and Volume-of-Fluid method for overset grid system

  • The numerical simulation of wave slamming on a 3D platform deck was investigated using a coupled Level-Set and Volume-of-Fluid (CLSVOF) method for overset grid system incorporated into the Finite-Analytic Navier-Stokes (FANS) method. The predicted slamming impact forces were compared with the corresponding experimental data. The comparisons showed that the CLSVOF method is capable of accurately predicting the slamming impact and capturing the violent free surface flow including wave slamming, wave inundation and wave recession. Moreover, the capability of the present CLSVOF method for overset grid system is a prominent feature to handle the prediction of wave slamming on offshore structure.

  • 3D printing AM processes have advantages in complex shapes, customized fabrication and prototype development stage. However, due to various parameters based on both the machine and the material, the AM process can produce finished output after several trials and errors in the initial stage. As such, minimizing or optimizing negative factors for various parameters of the 3D printing AM process could be a solution to reduce the trial-and-error failures in the early stages of such an AM process. In addition, this can be largely solved through software simulation in the preprocessing process of 3D printing AM process. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate a simulation technology for the AM software, especially Ansys Inc. The metal 3D printing AM process, the AM process simulation software, and the AM process simulation processor were examined. Through this study, it will be helpful to understand 3D printing AM process and AM process simulation processor.
