Low-loss Electrically Controllable Vertical Directional Couplers

  • We propose a nearly lossless, compact, electrically modulated vertical directional coupler, which is based on the controllable evanescent coupling in a previously proposed graphene-assisted total internal reflection (GA-FTIR) scheme. In the proposed device, two single-mode waveguides are separate by graphene-$SiO_2$-graphene layers. By changing the chemical potential of the graphene layers with a gate voltage, the coupling strength between the waveguides, and hence the coupling length of the directional coupler, is controlled. Therefore, for a properly chosen, fixed device length, when an input wave is launched into one of the waveguides, the ratio of their output powers can be controlled electrically. The operation of the proposed device is analyzed, with the dispersion relations calculated using a model of a one-dimensional slab waveguide. The supermodes in the coupled waveguide are calculated using the finite-element method to estimate the coupling length, realistic devices are designed, and their performance was confirmed using the finite-difference time-domain method. The designed $3{\mu}m$ by $1{\mu}m$ device achieves an insertion loss of less than 0.11 dB, and a 24-dB extinction ratio between bar and cross states. The proposed low-loss device could enable integrated modulation of a strong optical signal, without thermal buildup.

가상물체의 물리적 속성 구현 방법 (An Implementation Method of Virtual Environment Physical Properties)

  • 컴퓨터 그래픽스 기술은 모든 물체를 화면 안에 표현 가능하도록 발전되어 왔다. 여러 물체를 화면 안에 동시에 표현할 때 컴퓨터 디스플레이 해상도의 제한으로 인해 물체들의 크기의 차가 클 경우에는 정확한 크기의 차가 표현되지 않는다. 그리고, 현재의 그래픽스 기술에서는 실제 물체의 길이 단위와 같은 물리적 속성으로 물체를 정확하게 화면에 표현할 수가 없다. 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 물리적 속성 중 하나인 길이 표현을 위해 웹 가상환경에서의 3차원 물체 표현 기술인 X3D(Extensible 3D)를 기반으로 하여 물체를 실세계 길이 단위로 정의하고 구현하는 방법에 대해 기술한다. 이를 위해 서로 다른 도구로부터 생성된 서로 다른 크기의 물체를 실세계 길이 단위 명세에 따라 크기 변환을 하여 렌더링하는 K3D 기반의 3차원 뷰어를 개발하였다.

OECD규정(제4항)에 기초한 농업용 트랙터 캐빈의 유한요소 해석 (Finite Element Analysis of an Agricultural Tractor Cabin based on the OECD Standard(code 4))

  • The ROPS of an agricultural tractor is designed to protect its driver when the tractor overturns. Although the current OECD tests to determine whether the ROPS meets the requirements of the OECD regulation are desirable, they need long time to test. We experimental time and effort by using CAE. We conducted a finite element analysis for the ROPS design of a Dae-Dong tractor cabin in an attempt to reduce the design and manufacturing time. This study shows the interpretative skill using MARC(v.2000) for designing ROPS and difference between the results of testing and FEA. Design process is generally divided into two phases: a concept and a detail design. The concept design uses simple analysis to predict structural behavior, whereas the detail design involves a finite element analysis performed by the results of the concept design. This study focused on the detail design and used Patran(v.2000r2) and MARC(v.2000) of the MSC software corporation. The model consisted of 4812 elements and 4582 nodes. Four tests. specified in the OECD standards, were performed: (1) longitudinal loading test (2) rear crushing test (3) side loading test (4), and front crushing test. Independent analyses were also performed for each test, along with a sequential analysis. When compared, the results of the independent and sequential analyses were found to be similar to the test results.

Numerical modelling of stress and deflection behaviour for welded steel beam-column

  • In this study, stress and deflection behaviours of T-type welding joint applied to HE200M steel beam and column were investigated in finite element method (FEM) under different distributed loads. In the 3D-FEM modelling, glue option was used to contact between steel materials and weld nuggets. Geometrical model was designed as 3-dimensional solid in ANSYS software program. After that, homogeneous, linear and isotropic properties were used to design to materials of model. Solid-92 having 3-dimensional, 4 faced and 10-noded was selected as element type. In consequence of mesh operation, elements of 13285 and nodes of 28086 were occurred. Load distribution was applied to top surface of steel beam to determine behaviours of stress and deflection. As a result of FEM analysis applied with the loads of 55,000 N, 110,000 N and 220,000 N, maximum values were obtained as 116 N/$mm^2$, 232 N/$mm^2$ and 465 N/$mm^2$ for stress and obtainedas 1,083 mm, 2,166 mm and 4.332 mm for deflection, respectively. When modelling results and classical calculation values were compared, it was obtained difference of 10 % for stress values and 2.5% for deflection values.

CFD에 의한 2차원 지면 효과익 주위의 난류유동계산 (Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Flow around 2-D Airfoils in Ground Effect)

  • 지면효과를 받는 2차원 날개 주위의 난류유동을 비압축성 RANS(Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes) 방정식과 유한차분법(Finite Difference Method)을 이용하여 해석하였다. 높은 레이놀즈수에 효과적인 Baldwin-Lomax 난류모델을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 지면효과를 받는 2차원 날개단면에서의 각기 다른 두 바닥 경계조건(이동지면, 고정지면)에 따른 유동의 특성을 파악하는 것이다. Clark-Y(t/C 11.7%)날개단면의 계산 결과와 발표된 계산결과 및 실험 값과의 비교를 통해 본 수치해석 프로그램의 정확성을 검증하였다. NACA4412 날개단면에 대해 지면과의 높이변화에 대해서 두 바닥 경계조건에 대해서 유동해석을 수행하였다 계산결과에 의하면 이동지면과 고정지면에 대해서 양력과 모멘트는 별 차이가 없으나 항력은 고정지면의 경우가 이동지면의 경우보다 다소 작았다. 따라서 풍동시험에서 고정지면의 결과는 이동지면에 비해 상대적으로 저항이 낮게 평가될 가능성이 있다고 본다.

지하굴착지반에서의 3차원 지하수흐름에 관한 신뢰성해석 (Reliability approach to three-dimensional groundwater flow analysis in underground excavation)

  • In this paper, a reliability-groundwater flow program is developed by coupling the 3-D finite element numerical groundwater flow program with first and second order reliability program. The numerical groundwater program developed called DGU-FLOW is verified by solving the examples of groundwater flow through the underground excavation and comparing the results with those of commercial MODFLOW 3D programs. Reliability routine of the program is also verified by comparing the probability of failure of the flow model from FORM/SORM with that of Monte-Carlo Simulation. The difference of out-flux and total head calculated near the bottom of the excavation using the deterministic 3D groundwater flow and the commercial programs was negligible. The reliability analysis of the groundwater flow showed that the probability of failure from the first and second order reliability method are quite close that of Monte-Carlo Simulation. Therefore, the developed program is considered effective for analyzing the groundwater flow with uncertainty in hydraulic conductivity of the soils.

3차원 수치해석을 통한 궤도지지말뚝의 동적거동 평가 (Evaluation of Dynamic Behavior for Pile-Supported Slab Track System by 3D Numerical Analysis)

  • Dynamic numerical simulation of pile-supported slab track system embedded in a soft soil and embankment was performed. 3D model was formulated in a time domain to consider the non-linearity of soil by utilizing FLAC 3D, which is a finite difference method program. Soil non-linearity was simulated by adopting the hysteric damping model and liner elements, which could consider soil-pile interface. The long period seismic loads, Hachinohe type strong motions, were applied for estimating seismic respose of the system, Parametric study was carried out by changing subsoil layer profile, embankment height and seismic loading conditions. The most of horizontal permanent displacement was initiated by slope failure. Increase of the embedded height and thickness of the soft soil layer leads increase of member forces of PHC piles; bending moment, and axial force. Finally, basic guidelines for designing pile-supported slab track system under seismic loading are recommended based on the analysis results.

낮은 Mach수유동 해석을 위한 Preconditioning 가중계수의 의존성 (DEPENDENCE OF WEIGHTING PARAMETER IN PRECONDITIONING METHOD FOR SOLVING LOW MACH NUMBER FLOW)

  • A dependence of weighting parameter in preconditioning method for solving low Mach number flow with incompressible flow nature is investigated. The present preconditioning method employs a finite-difference method applied Roe‘s flux difference splitting approximation with the MUSCL-TVD scheme and 4th-order Runge-Kutta method in curvilinear coordinates. From the computational results of benchmark flows through a 2-D backward-facing step duct it is confirmed that there exists a suitable value of the weighting parameter for accurate and stable computation. A useful method to determine the weighting parameter is introduced. With this method, high accuracy and stable computational results were obtained for the flow with low Mach number in the range of Mach number less than 0.3.

Design of a Magnet Assembly for an NMR Based Sensor Using Finite Element Analysis

  • A magnet assembly is a critical element of a nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) based sensor. Magnetic flux density and homogeneity are essential to its optimum performance. Geometry and magnet material properties determine the magnetic flux density and homogeneity of the assembly. This study was carried out to develop the design for a magnet assembly. A 2-D finite element model for the magnetic assembly was developed using ANSYS and evaluated the effects of adding shimming frames and steel bars in the corners of the rectangular steel cover which surrounded the magnet. The assembly was manufactured and evaluated. According to the ANSYS model, modified pole frames increased magnetic flux density by 8.3% and increased homogeneity by 83%. Addition of steel bars in the corners increased the magnetic flux density by 1%, and improved homogeneity up to three times. The difference between simulated and measured magnetic flux densities at the center point of the air gap was within 2.4%.

유한체적법을 이용한 상선주위의 난류유동 계산에 관한 연구 (Development of Computational Methods for Viscous Flow around a Commercial Ship Using Finite-Volume Methods)

  • 선수와 선미에 벌브를 가진 현대적인 상선 주위의 난류유동을 해석하기 위해 유한체적법을 이용한 RANS 방정식의 해법이 개발되었다. 복잡한 선수미의 격자계 생성을 위해 다중블록 선체표면 격자계 생성 기법이 도입되었고, 타원형 미분 방정식의 해를 이용하여 O-H 형태의 공간 격자계생성 기법이 이용되었다. 지배방정식의 대류항과 확산항은 각각 QUICK과 중앙차분법을 이용하여 근사되었고, 속도-압력 연성을 위해 SIMPLEC법이 채택되었다. 개발된 방법은 KRISO 3600TEU 컨테이너선에 적용하여 유선가시화 실험 및 반류계측 결과와 비교하였다. 계산 결과는 선수와 선미에 벌브를 가진 현대적인 선형 주위의 유동 해석을 위해서도 이러한 수치계산 방법이 적용될 수 있음을 보여주고 있다.
