In this paper, we propose a normalized cross correlation(NCC)-based multiview background subtraction method which is robust when an object and background have similar color. When the background of the capturing environment is not artificially composed, the regions in the background images which would be occluded by an object tends to have difference colors. The colors of those regions, however, becomes similar when an object enters the capturing environment. Based on this assumption, this paper proposes a concept of GoNCC(Graph of Normalized Cross Correlation). GoNCC is the distribution of NCC between a pixel in an image and pixels related by epipolar constraints with the pixel. The proposed multiview background subtraction method is performed by comparing GoNCC of the current images with the background images. To reduce computational complexity, we perform multiview background subtraction only to the pixels undetermined by single view background subtraction. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more robust to color similarity between an object and background than a single-view background subtraction method and a previous multiview background subtraction method.

In this paper, an innovative robust feature detection and matching strategy for visual odometry based on stereo image sequence is proposed. First, a sparse multiscale 2D local invariant feature detection and description algorithm AKAZE is adopted to extract the interest points. A robust feature matching strategy is introduced to match AKAZE descriptors. In order to remove the outliers which are mismatched features or on dynamic objects, an improved random sample consensus outlier rejection scheme is presented. Thus the proposed method can be applied to dynamic environment. Then, geometric constraints are incorporated into the motion estimation without time-consuming 3-dimensional scene reconstruction. Last, an iterated sigma point Kalman Filter is adopted to refine the motion results. The presented ego-motion scheme is applied to benchmark datasets and compared with state-of-the-art approaches with data captured on campus in a considerably cluttered environment, where the superiorities are proved.

Three-dimensional data has been used for different applications such as robotics, building reconstruction, and so on. 3D data can be generated from an optical camera or a laser scanner. Especially, a wearable multi-sensor system including the above-mentioned sensors is an optimized structure that can overcome the drawbacks of each sensor. After finding the geometric relationships between sensors, georeferencing of the datasets acquired from the moving system, should be carried out. Especially, in an indoor environment, error propagation always causes problem in the georeferencing process. To improve the accuracy of this process, other sources of data were used to combine with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data, and various registration methods were also tested to find the most suitable way. More specifically, this paper proposed a new process of NDT (Normal Distribution Transform) to register the LiDAR point cloud, with additional information from other sensors. For real experiment, a wearable mapping system was used to acquire datasets in an indoor environment. The results showed that applying the new process of NDT and combining LiDAR data with IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) information achieved the best result with the RMSE 0.063 m.

In the case of a scanning type multi-channel LiDAR sensor, the distance error called a walk error may occur due to a difference in received signal power. This work error causes different distance values to be output for the same object when scanning the surrounding environment based on multiple LiDAR sensors. For minimizing walk error in overlapping regions when scanning all directions using multiple sensors, to calibrate distance for each channels using convolution on external system. Four sensors were placed in the center of 6×6 m environment and scanned around. As a result of applying the proposed filtering method, the distance error could be improved by about 68% from average of 0.5125 m to 0.16 m, and the standard deviation could be improved by about 48% from average of 0.0591 to 0.030675.
The Delaunay triangulation. which is one of the surface rendering methods. have been evaluated as a good algorithm which can solve the geometrical connection problems and make high quality images. However this method also have the problem that is the 'non-solid' connection between slices. In this paper, we proposed a new method for the Delaunay triangulation for the surface rendering from 2D medical images in the PC environment. The proposed method was designed to eliminate 'non-solid' tetrahedra. which had no correspondence to the geometric closeness, and used elimination algorithm with modified External Voronoi Skeleton path. This method enabled us to eliminate 'non-solid' tetrahedra without affecting other regions. Thus we could effectively reconstruct the complex shaped objects which were compactly connected with tetrahedra.
Evaluation of the primary etiologic agents that cause aseptic meningitis outbreaks may provide valuable information regarding the prevention and management of aseptic meningitis. In Korea, an outbreak of aseptic meningitis caused by echovirus type 30 (E30) occurred from May to October in 2008. In order to determine the etiologic agent, CSF and/or stool specimens from 140 children hospitalized for aseptic meningitis at Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital between June and October of 2008 were tested for virus isolation and identification. E30 accounted for 61.7% (37 cases) and echovirus 6 accounted for 21.7% (13 cases) of all the human enteroviruses (HEVs) isolates (60 cases in total). For the molecular characterization of the isolates, the VP1 gene sequence of 18 Korean E30 isolates was compared pairwise using the MegAlign with 34 reference strains from the GenBank database. The pairwise comparison of the nucleotide sequences of the VP1 genes demonstrated that the sequences of the Korean strains differed from those of lineage groups A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. Reconstruction of the phylogenetic tree based on the complete VP1 nucleotide sequences resulted in a monophyletic tree, with eight clustered lineage groups. All Korean isolates were segregated from other lineage groups, thus suggesting that the Korean strains were a distinct lineage of E30, and a probable cause of this outbreak. This manuscript is the first report, to the best of our knowledge, of the molecular characteristics of E30 strains associated with an aseptic meningitis outbreak in Korea, and their respective phylogenetic relationships.

An image obtained from a low light environment results in a low-exposure problem caused by non-ideal camera settings, i.e. aperture size and shutter speed. Of particular note, the multiple color-filter aperture (MCA) system inherently suffers from low-exposure problems and performance degradation in its image classification and registration processes due to its finite size of the apertures. In this context, this paper presents a novel method for the color enhancement of low-exposure images and its application to color shift model-based MCA system for image refocusing. Although various histogram equalization (HE) approaches have been proposed, they tend to distort the color information of the processed image due to the range limits of the histogram. The proposed color enhancement algorithm enhances the global brightness by analyzing the basic cause of the low-exposure phenomenon, and then compensates for the contrast degradation artifacts by using an adaptive histogram specification. We also apply the proposed algorithm to the preprocessing step of the refocusing technique in the MCA system to enhance the color image. The experimental results confirm that the proposed method can enhance the contrast of any low-exposure color image acquired by a conventional camera, and is suitable for commercial low-cost, high-quality imaging devices, such as consumer-grade camcorders, real-time 3D reconstruction systems, digital, and computational cameras.

Noise affects the accuracy of three-dimensional shape recovery. Its occurrence is unpredictable and depends on several mechanical, environmental, and other factors. When two-dimensional image sequences are obtained for shape from focus (SFF), mechanical vibration occurs in the translational stage, causing an error in the three-dimensional shape recovery. To address this issue, mechanical vibration is modeled using Newton's second law and the principle of the rack and pinion gear. Then, an optimal sampling step size considering the mechanical vibration is suggested through theoretical demonstration. Experiments conducted with real objects verify the effectiveness of the proposed sampling step size. In this paper, in a realistic environment with noise, the potential of obtaining more accurate three-dimensional reconstruction results of the objects is explored by acquiring the optimal sampling step size, which improves the sampling step size relative to those reported in a previous study performed under similar conditions.
The restoration of archaeological data was carried out using photographs and drawings left as past records. It can be divided into ruins and artifacts. The restoration of the ruins was performed by modeling the individual parts and parts left by the photographs, aligning them and synthesizing them, and reconstructing them three-dimensionally as one object. Restoration of artifacts was performed on both photographs and drawings. After the modeling work is prioritized through the photographs, there is a method of restoring the original image by modifying the texture image of the damaged part of the modeled artifact, or restoring the original image by modeling and synthesizing the deleted part in the artifact. The restoration of the artifacts through the drawings was carried out by three - dimensional modeling and reconstruction through real mapping of images. The reconstructed archaeological data can be used in various directions. In particular, it is possible to verify and compare the results of the numerical analysis and interpretation of the past 2D data, and to provide a more accurate analysis plan in the future.

With the development of technology, the methods of digitally converting various forms of analog information have become common. As a result, the concept of recording, building, and reproducing data in a virtual space, such as digital heritage and digital reconstruction, has been actively used in the preservation and research of various cultural heritages. However, there are few existing research results that suggest optimal scanners for small and medium-sized relics. In addition, scanner prices are not cheap for researchers to use, so there are not many related studies. The 3D scanner specifications have a great influence on the quality of the 3D model. In particular, since the state of light reflected on the surface of the object varies depending on the type of light source used in the scanner, using a scanner suitable for the characteristics of the object is the way to increase the efficiency of the work. Therefore, this paper conducted a study on nine small and medium-sized buried cultural properties of various materials, including earthenware and porcelain, by period, to examine the differences in quality of the four types of 3D scanners. As a result of the study, optical scanners and small and medium-sized object scanners were the most suitable digital records of the small and medium-sized relics. Optical scanners are excellent in both mesh and texture but have the disadvantage of being very expensive and not portable. The handheld method had the advantage of excellent portability and speed. When considering the results compared to the price, the small and medium-sized object scanner was the best. It was the photo room measurement that was able to obtain the 3D model at the lowest cost. 3D scanning technology can be largely used to produce digital drawings of relics, restore and duplicate cultural properties, and build databases. This study is meaningful in that it contributed to the use of scanners most suitable for buried cultural properties by material and period for the active use of 3D scanning technology in cultural heritage.
