  • This paper describes the effect of ultrasonic frequency(f) on the atomization and deformation characteristics of single water droplet in an acoustic levitation field. To achieve this, the ultrasonic levitator that can control sound pressure and velocity amplitude by changing frequency was installed, and visualization of single water droplet was conducted with high resolution ICCD and CCD camera. At the same time, atomization and deformation characteristics of single water droplet was studied in terms of normalized droplet diameter($d/d_0$), droplet diameter(d) variation and droplet volume(V) variation under different ultrasonic frequency(f) conditions. It was revealed that increase of ultrasonic frequency reduces the droplet diameter. Therefore, it is able to levitate with low sound pressure level. It also induces the wide oscillation range, large diameter and volume variation of water droplet. In conclusion, the increase of ultrasonic frequency(f) can enhance the atomization performance of single water droplet.

  • Hot stamping, which is the hot pressing of special steel sheet using a cold die, can combine ease of shaping with high strength mechanical properties due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching. In this paper, a thermo-mechanical analysis of hot stamping using the finite element method in conjunction with phase transformations was performed in order to investigate the plastic deformation behavior, temperature history, and mechanical properties of the stamped car part. We also conducted a fully coupled thermo-mechanical analysis during the stamping and rapid quenching process to obtain the mechanical properties with the consideration of the effects of plastic deformation and phase transformation on the temperature histories at each point in the part. The finite element analysis could provide key information concerning the temperature histories and the sheet mechanical properties when the phase transformation is properly considered. Such an analysis can also be used to determine the effect of cyclic cooling on the tooling.

  • Welding deformation during the assembly process is affected by not only local shrinkage due to rapid heating and cooling, but also root gap and misalignment between parts to be welded. Therefore, the prediction and control of welding deformation have become of critical importance. In this study, it was focused on the development of the 3-axis apparatus for real-time measurement of the welded deformation. To achieve the objective, a D-H algorithm has been carried out to check the behavioral and performance evaluation for the developed robot. The sequence experiments were taken the base materials of $400{\times}200{\times}4.5mm$ plate for butt welding. The real-time experimental measurements are in good agreement with the measured results.

  • Compressive deformation behavior of Al-10Si-5Fe-1Zr (wt%) alloy preform fabricated by SPS(spark plasma sintering) of gas atomized powder was investigated in the temperature range from 380 to $480^{\circ}C$ and at strain rates from $1.0{\times}10^{-3}$ to $1.0{\times}10^{0}s^{-1}$. Stress-strain curves showed a peak stress (${\sigma}_p$) during initial stage of deformation, followed by a steady state flow at all temperatures and strain rates tested. The (${\sigma}_p$) decreased with both increase in temperature and decrease in strain rate. Nearly full densification was found to occur in the compressively deformed specimens irrespective of test condition. TEM observation revealed a restricted grain growth during steady state flow.

  • Recently, digital image correlation (DIC) techniques have been used to measure dynamic deformation during tensile testing. The standard tensile test method measures the average displacement of the relevant specimen to calculate the true stress-strain curve. Therefore, the validity of the true stress curve is restricted to the stress incurred within the uniform stretching interval, i.e., the maximum stress corresponds to the starting point of the necking deformation. Alternatively, if DIC is used, the effective range of the strain and strain rate can be extended to the breaking point of the tensile specimen, because of the feasibility of measuring the local strain over the entire area of interest. Because of these advantages, many optical 3D measurement systems have been introduced and used in research and industry. However, the conventional 3D measurement systems are exceedingly expensive and time consuming. In addition, these systems have the disadvantage of a very large equipment size which makes their transport difficult. In this study, a 2D image correction method employing a 2D DIC measurement method in conjunction with a numerical analysis method is developed using a smartphone. The results of the proposed modified 2D DIC method yielded higher accuracy than that obtained via the 3D measurement equipment. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that the proposed 2D DIC and calibration methods yield accurate measurement results with low time costs.

  • In the construction industry, interest in technologies such as 3D Construction Printing (3DCP) is increasing, and research is being conducted continuously. In the case of atypical architecture, different shapes must be implemented, and the introduction of 3D printing technology is intended to solve it. Our researchers are conducting research to produce Free-form Concrete Panel (FCP). It automatically manufactures the FCP's formwork without any error with the design shape. At this time, the concrete nozzle based on the 3D printing technology is developed and the concrete is precisely extruded into the manufactured form to prevent the deformation of the formwork that can occur due to the concrete load. Therefore, in this study, the requirements for the development of 3D printing concrete nozzles for FCP manufacturing are analyzed. Based on the analyzed requirements, the first nozzle was developed. Such equipment is easy to shorten construction period and cost reduction in the atypical construction field, and is expected to be utilized as basic 3D printing equipment.

  • This study applied close-range digital photogrammetry to measure deformation of reinforced-soil wall as the passed time. We proposed to utilize the photogrammetric-board to determine 3D coordinates and compute exterior orientation parameters from the images without measuring control points. The displacements by the proposed method are compared with those of the Total-station. As results, measuring errors was within 5cm, and the deformation was not occurred in the 3 months. The proposed method using the photogrammetric-board therefore can be utilized to measure deformation of the reinforced-soil wall.
