The usage of mixed 2D and 3D CAD data of commercial CAD systems is required in the construction practice. Sometimes 3D wireframe model is required by end-users when 2D CAD data is delivered. However, current KOSDIC can not represent 3D CAD data, because it has been developed as a 2D drawing delivery standard. Therefore, this study is to provide exchange and sharing of mixed 2D and 3D CAD data that add 3D wireframe model in the KOSDIC. To achieve this purpose, the authors have investigated the 3D CAD entities of commercial CAD systems, and have analyzed STEP standards providing 3D wireframe model. The result, the authors have extracted 3D CAD common entities based wireframe model which shall be added in the KOSDIC. This study can be beneficial by using the developed data model for heterogeneous CAD systems, and by providing the representation of mixed 2D and 3D CAD data in construction practice such as GIS, piping system, and so forth.
In this study, two standard specifications such as GML (Geography Markup Language) from OGC (Open Geo-spatial Consortium, Inc.) and X3D (extensible 3D) from Web3D consortium were dealt with for a web-based 3D urban application without using commercialized tools. In the first step of this study, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and 3D GIS data sets were converted to GML structure with attribute schema. Then, these GML elements were projected onto a common coordinate system, and they were converted to the X3D format for visualization on web browser. In this work, a 3D urban data model, as a simple framework model, is extended to a framework model having further detailed information, depending upon application levels. Conclusively, this study is to demonstrate for practical uses of GML and X3D in 3D urban application and this approach can be applied to other application domains regarding system integrators and data sharing communities on distributed environments.

Three-dimensional (3D) design data is used for various purposes throughout the life cycle of a plant construction project. Plant 3D CAD systems support 3D modeling based on specs-catalogs, which contain data that are used for different purposes such as design, procurement, production, and handover. Therefore, it is important to share the spec-catalog data in the 3D design model with other application systems. Sharing this data thus requires a system that extracts spec-catalog data from plant 3D CAD systems and converts them into neutral model data. In this paper, we analyze equipment spec-catalog data of plant 3D CAD systems and, based on these analyses, define the data structure for neutral spec-catalog data. We subsequently propose a procedure that translates native spec-catalog data to neutral model data and develop a prototype system that performs this operation. The proposed method is then experimentally validated for the test spec-catalog data.

A prototype computer program was developed which visualizes various kinds of geotechnical information using 3D object graphics techniques. The program integrates various kinds of geotechnical data such as surface geology map, boreholes data, geophysical data as well as man made subsurface structures. It also reads NGIS DXF map and generates digital elevation model from iso-elevation line layer of the DXF map. All the data are put into a 3D model as 3D objects. The created 3D model can be viewed and analysed in a interactive 3D way.

Because of most current cadastral systems maintain 2D geometric descriptions of parcels linked to administrative records, the system may not reflect current tendency to use space above and under the surface. The land has been used in multi-levels, e.g. constructions of multi-used complex buildings, subways and infrastructure above/under the ground. This cadastre situation of multilevel use of lands cannot be defined as cadastre objects (2D parcel-based) in the cadastre systems. This trend has requested a new system in which right to land is clearly and indisputably recorded because a right of ownership on a parcel relates to a space in 3D, not any more relates to 2D surface area. Therefore, this article proposes a 3D spatial data model to represent geometrical and topological data of 3D (property) situation on multilevel uses of lands in 3D cadastre systems, and a conceptual 3D cadastral model in Korea to design a conceptual schema for a 3D cadastre. Lastly, this paper presents the results of an experimental implementation of the 3D Cadastre to perform topological analyses based on 3D Network Data Model to identify spatial neighbors.
As BIM application continues to increase in civil engineering, in this study, 3D information model for RC(Reinforced Concrete) bridge pylon was developed and verified its effectiveness at the structural-design stage. To define 3D information model of RC A-Type pylon, characteristics of pylon were analyzed and 3D model structure was constructed. The 3D information model, one of the core product of BIM, manages all information generated during all life-cycle of a structure and consequently maximizes the efficiency of utilizing information. Also, this study proposes interface module between input data in structural analysis and 3D model of RC pylon. The module can create the input data for non-linear structural analysis. It is essential to study on method of developing 3D information model and propose a structural analysis model by utilizing 3D model for the effective use of BIM techniques in construction industry. The results of this study can be used as the base data for developing the 3D information model of RC pylon in the structural analysis field.

The purpose of this study is to support the integration from current 2D drawing-based design to future 3D model-based design. In this paper, an important theme is the combination between the STEP-based 2D drawing standards (i.e., AP202) and the IFC-based 3D building model standards. To achieve the purpose, two methodologies are proposed as follows: the development of IFC extension model for the 2D shape data representation by harmonizing ISO/STEP AP202; and the development of mapping solution between IFC 2D extension model and KOSDIC by constructing the exchange scenario for 2D shape data representation. It is expected that the proposed IFC2X2 2D extension model and mapping solution will offer the basis of development of the integrated standards model in AEC industry.

Hull design data is currently prepared by a 2D CAD system and re-input to 3D CAD systems specialized for detail design or to a structural analysis system. In this paper, sharing design data among different CAD systems has been studied. Based on STEP methodology, a neutral model is generated from 2D AutoCAD drawings. To handle a geometric data of this model, the non-manifold model of ACIS is used because it can support various CAD data representation such as 2D graphic entities, 3D wireframe, 3D surface model, and solid B-Rep/CSG model. It is observed that a mon-manifold model can easily be transformed to a 3-D wireframe model for the hull detail design system AutoDef or a FE model for the structural analysis system Nastran.

Cost estimation through fast and correct quantity take offs are crucial in the process of construction project. The existing methods for cost estimation are mainly based on 2D-based drawings and the estimation result tends to be different according to the estimator's experience, the quality and quantity of used information and estimation time. To solve these problems, the domestic construction industry have recently tried to use the data extracted from 3D data modeling based on BIM(Building Information Modeling) in order to achieve more accurate and objective cost estimation. However it tends to increase dramatically the quantity of information that can be used in cost estimation by estimators. Therefore in order to achieve quality information data from 3D data modeling, the characteristics of the project should be reflected on the 3D model and it is most important to extract information only for cost estimation from the whole 3D model fast and accurately. Thus this study aims to propose the 3D modeling method through Data Normalization which maximizes the usability of 3D Data modeling in cost estimation process.

In this paper, we suggest the method for constructing parameterized human body model which has any required body sizes from 3D scan data. Because of well developed 3D scan technology, we can get more detailed human body model data which allow to generate precise human model. In this field, there are a lot of research is performed with 3D scan data. But previous researches have some limitations to make human body model. They need too much time to perform hole-filling process or calculate parameterization of model. Even more they missed out verification process. To solve these problems, we used several methods. We first choose proper 125 3D scan data from 5th Korean body size survey of Size Korea according to age, height and weight. We also did post process, feature point setting, RBF interpolation and align, to parameterize human model. Then principal component analysis is adapted to the result of post processed data to obtain dominant shape parameters. These steps allow to reduce process time without loss of accuracy. Finally, we compare these results and statistical data of Size Korea to verify our parameterized human model.
