  • With the effectuation of the amendment of MARPOL 73/78 on 5 April 2005, enforcement regulations of Marine Pollution Prevention Act were revised in domestic on 12 March 2005 that double hull structure was required to the small single bottom oil tankers under DWT(deadweight tonnage) 500 ton for the protection of the marine pollution casualties. The objective of this study is to develop the double bottom structure of small oil tanker under DWT 500 ton with superior crashworthiness and to establish its suitable standard to double bottom structure. The promoting strategy of this R&D is classified into the crashworthy structural analysis of small oil tankers using LS/DYNA3D code and the examination of their damage stabilities according to tonnage. It could be thought that the desirable inner bottom height should be above the B/7.5 and its minimum height 0.65m for the domestic small oil tanker under DWT 500ton.

  • In processing images using 2 dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform(2D-DWT), the method to process the pixels around the image boundary may affect the quality of image and the cost to implement in hardware and software. This paper proposed an effective method to treat the boundary pixels, which is apt to implement in hardware and software without losing the quality of the image costly. This method processes the 2-D image as 1-D array so that 2-D DWT is performed by considering the image with the serial-sequential data structure (Serial-Sequential Processing). To show the performance and easiness in implementation of the proposed method, an image compression codec which compresses image and reconstructs it has been implemented and experimented. It included log-scale fried quantizer, but the entropy coder was not implemented. From the experimental results, the proposed method showed the SNR of almost the same SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) to the Periodic Expansion(PE) method when the compression ratio(excluding entropy coding) of 2:1, 15.3% higher than Symmetric Expansion(SE) method, and 9.3% higher than 0-pixel Padding Expansion(ZPE) method. Also PE method needed 12.99% more memory space than the proposed method. By considering only the compression process, SE and ZPE methods needed additional operations than the proposed one. In hardware implementation, the proposed method in this paper had 5.92% of overall circuit as the control circuit, while SE, PE, and ZPE method has 22%, 21,2%, and 11.9% as the control circuit, respectively. Consequently, the proposed method can be thought more effective in implementing software and hardware without losing any image quality in the usual image processing applications.

  • In the previous study, the Haar wavelet was used as the sole basis function for the 3D discrete wavelet transform because the number of bands is too small to decompose a remotely sensed image in band direction with other basis functions. However, it is possible to use other basis functions for wavelet decomposition in horizontal and vertical directions because wavelet decomposition is independently performed in each direction. This study aims to classify a high spatial resolution image with the six types of basis function including the Haar function and to compare those results. The other wavelets are more helpful to classify high resolution imagery than the Haar wavelet. In overall accuracy, the Coif4 wavelet has the best result. The improvement of classification accuracy is different depending on the type of class and the type of wavelet. Using the basis functions with long length could be effective for improving accuracy in classification, especially for the classes of small area. This study is expected to be used as fundamental information for selecting optimal basis function according to the data properties in the 3D DWT based image classification.

  • In this paper, low-power design and implementation techniques for DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform) of the JPEG2000 compression are proposed. In DWT block of the JPEG2000, linear phase 9 tap and 7 tap filters are used. For low-power implementation of those filters, processor technique for DA(Distributed Arithmetic) filter and minimization technique for number of addition in CSD(Canonic Signed Digit) filter are utilized. Proposed filter structure consists of 3 blocks. In the first CSD coefficient block, every possible 4 bit CSD coefficients are calculated and stored. In second processor block, multiplication is done by MUX and addition processor in terms of the binary values of filter coefficient. Finally, in third block, multiplied values are output and stored in flip-flop train. For comparison of the implementation area and power dissipation, proposed and conventional structures are implemented by using Verilog-HDL coding. In simulation, it is shown that 53.1% of the implementation area can be reduced comparison with those of the conventional structure.

  • This paper describes a series of numerical simulations of colision between a 310, 000 DWT double hull VLCC (struck ship) and three 35, 000, 70, 000 and 105, 000 DWT tankers (striking ships) using LS/DYNA3D. Collisions are assumed to occur at the middle of the VLCC with the striking ships moving at right angle to the VLCC centerline. Striking ship speeds are varied to find a critical speed without failure of inner side shell, and the informations of collision force and absorption energy of each case are also reported. The validation of LS/DYNA3D in this study was made by comparing the result of numerical simulation of LS/DYNA3D with that of double hull tanker grounding experiment by the Carderock Division of Navla Surface Warfare Center (CDNSWC).

  • In this paper, we proposed a video watermarking algerian based on wavelet transform using statistical characteristic of video according to the energy distribution and the spread spectrum technique. In the proposed method, the original video is splitted by spatial difference metric and classified into the motion region and the motionless region according to the motion degree. The motion region is decomposed into 3-levels using 3D DWT and the motionless region is decomposed into 2-levels using 2D DWT The baseband of the wavelet-decomposed image is not utilized because of the image quality. So that the standard deviation of the highest subband coefficients except for the baseband is used to determine the threshold. Binary video watermarks preprocessed by the random permutation and the spread spectrum technique are embedded into selected coefficients. In computer experiments, the proposed algorithm was found to be more invisible and robust than the conventional algorithms.

  • Each class in remotely sensed imagery has different spectral and spatial characteristics. Natural features have relatively smaller spatial changes than spectral changes. Meanwhile, urban area in which buildings, roads, and cars are included is inclined to face more changes of spatial variation than spectral one. This study aims to propose the new urban complexity index (UCI) based on the 3D DWT computation of remotely sensed imageries considering these characteristics. And then we analyze relation between index and land cover map. The 3DWUCI values are related to class and the indices of urban area are greater than natural area. The proposed UCI could be used to express effectively the standard of urban complexity over a wide area.

  • In this paper, digital watermarking method using quad-tree algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm searches the significant coefficient of the watermark by using quad-tree algorithm and inserts the watermark by the Cox's algorithm. The simulation for performance analysis of the proposed algorithm is implemented about the effect of quad-tree algorithm in wavelet domain and that of embedding watermark in each subband coefficient (HH, LH, HL) and each DWT level, and that of embedding in the lowest frequency band (LL). As a simulation result, digital watermarking using quad-tree algorithm improves the watermarking performance in comparison with inserting watermark in the significant coefficients of fixed frequency band. The watermarking performance of simultaneously embedding in HH, LH, and HL band of DWT(6 level) is better than that of different cases. In addition, insertion the watermark to the LL band about 30~60% of all watermarks improves the correlation value while PSNR performance decreases 1~3dB.

  • This paper presents an approach to detect premature ventricular contraction(PVC) using discrete wavelet transform and fuzzy neural network. As the input of the algorithm, we use 14 coefficients of d3, d4, and d5, which are transformed by a discrete wavelet transform(DWT). This paper uses a neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions(NEWFM) to diagnose PVC. The NEWFM discussed in this paper classifies a normal beat and a PVC beat. The size of the window of DWT is $-31/360{\sim}+32/360$ second(64 samples) whose center is the R wave. Using the seven records of the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database used in Shyu's paper, the classification performance of the proposed algorithm is 99.91%, which outperforms the 97.04% of Shyu's analysis. Using the forty records of the M1T-BIH arrhythmia database used in Inan's paper, the classification performance of the proposed algorithm is 98.01%, which outperforms 96.85% of Inan's one. The SE and SP of the proposed algorithm are 84.67% and 99.39%, which outperforms the 82.57% and 98.33%, respectively, of Inan's study.
