  • Surface segmentation aims to represent the terrain as a set of bounded and analytically defined surface patches. Many previous segmentation methods have been developed to extract planar patches from LIDAR data for building extraction. However, most of them were not fully satisfactory for more general applications in terms of the degree of automation and the quality of the segmentation results. This is mainly caused from the limited information derived from LIDAR data. The purpose of this study is thus to develop an automatic method to perform surface segmentation by combining not only LIDAR data but also images. A region-based method is proposed to generate a set of planar patches by grouping LIDAR points. The grouping criteria are based on both the coordinates of the points and the corresponding intensity values computed from the images. This method has been applied to urban data and the segmentation results are compared with the reference data acquired by manual segmentation. 76% of the test area is correctly segmented. Under-segmentation is rarely founded but over-segmentation still exists. If the over-segmentation is mitigated by merging adjacent patches with similar properties as a post-process, the proposed segmentation method can be effectively utilized for a reliable intermediate process toward automatic extraction of 3D model of the real world.

  • GPS is an efficient system in surveying and car navigation. but it is difficult to catch minimum number of satellite when it is hindered by obstacle such as city area. GLONASS system doesn't have perfect constellation yet, but it has many similarities with GPS system in principle of point positioning and signal system. so, it is expected to be much efficient when it is used with GPS system. For the purpose of this, the coordinates of GPS and GLONASS system, the quality of time and frequency was investigated, and the algorithm of point positioning was made. also, the efficiency of GPS/GLONASS combination was presented by analysing the precision of 3D point positioning using C/A code and Yuma satellite orbit information.

  • In this paper, the dynamic response analysis of a floating crane with elastic booms and a cargo is performed. The objective is to consider the effects of the elastic boom in the lifting design stage. Governing equations of the motion for the system which consists of interconnected rigid and flexible bodies are derived based on the formulation of flexible multibody system dynamics. To model the boom as a flexible body, floating reference frame and nodal coordinates are used. Coupled surge, pitch, and heave motion of the floating crane with the cargo which has 3 degree of freedom is simulated by solving the equation numerically. Finally, the effects of the elastic boom for the lifting design that the floating crane is required to lift a heavy cargo are discussed by comparing the simulation result between with the elastic boom and with the rigid one.

  • Since too much information has been generated, it became very difficult to find out valuable and necessary information. In order to deal with the problem of information overload, the taxonomy for information visualization techniques has been based upon visualized shapes such as tree map, fisheye view and parallel coordinates, so that it was difficult to choose the right representation technique by data characteristics. Therefore, this study was designed to introduce a new taxonomy for the information visualization by data characteristics which defined by space (3D vs. multi-dimensions), time (continuous vs. discrete), and relations of data (qualitative vs. quantitative). To verify the new taxonomy, forensic data which were generated to investigate the culprit of network security was used. The result showed that the new taxonomy was found to be very efficient and effective to choose the right visualized shape for forensic data for network security. In conclusion, the new taxonomy was proven to be very helpful to choose the right information visualization technique by data characteristics.

  • This paper proposes color databases that can be used for various purposes for people with a color vision deficiency (CVD). The purpose of this paper is to group colors within the sRGB gamut into the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color space using the Brettel algorithm to simulate the representative colors of each group into colors visible to people with a CVD, and to establish a confusion line database by comparing colors that might cause confusion for people with different types of color vision deficiency. The validity of the established confusion lines were verified by using an Ishihara chart. The different colors that confuse those with a CVD in an Ishihara chart are located in the same confusion line database for both protanopia and deutanopia. Instead of the 3D RGB color space, we have grouped confusion colors to the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ space coordinates in a more distinctive and intuitive manner, and can establish a database of colors that can be perceived by people with a CVD more accurately. • Building reconstruction attempts to generate geometric and radiometric models of existing buildings usually from sensory data, which have been traditionally aerial or satellite images, more recently airborne LIDAR data, or the combination of these data. Extensive studies on building reconstruction from these data have developed some competitive algorithms with reasonable performance and some degree of automation. Nevertheless, the level of details and completeness of the reconstructed building models often cannot reach the high standards that is now or will be required by various applications in future. Hence, the use of terrestrial sensory data that can provide higher resolution and more complete coverage has been intensively emphasized. We developed a fusion framework for building reconstruction from terrestrial sensory data, that is, points from a laser scanner, images from digital camera, and absolute coordinates from a total station. The proposed approach was then applied to reconstructing a building model from real data sets acquired from a large complex existing building. Based on the experimental results, we assured that the proposed approach cam achieve high resolution and accuracy in building reconstruction. The proposed approach can effectively contribute in developing an operational system producing large urban models for 3D GIS with reasonable resources.

  • High-efficiency white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) were fabricated with two emissive layers and exciton blocking layer was sandwiched between two phosphorescent dyes which were, bis(3,5-Difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl-(2-carboxypyridyl) iridium III (Flrpic) as blue emission and a newly synthesized red phosphorescent material guest, Bis(5-benzoyl-2-phenylpyridinato-C,N)iridium(III) (acetylacetonate) ((Bzppy)2Ir(III)acac). This exciton blocking layer prevents a triple-triple energy transfer between the two phosphorescent emissive layers with balanced emission of blue and red. The white device showed the Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIEx,y) coordinates of (0.34, 0.40) at the maximum luminance of $24100\;cd/m^2$ and maximum luminous efficiency of 22.4 cd/A, respectively.

  • In this paper, we suggest a new spatial information system called video GIS where video is used for spatial data construction and is integrated with map. We develop a prototype system of video GIS and apply it to roadside facility management. The main functions supported by the suggested system are data collection, coordinate calculation and conversion, data construction, analysis, searching, and browsing. The stereo images and corresponding position data are collected by a vehicle named 4S-Van that has GPS, IMU, and cameras. The 3-D coordinates of the objects in the images, such as road sign, signal lamp, and building, can be calculated and constructed from the collected data. The spatial objects are displayed on both image and map, and can be searched and browsed, which enables visual and realistic browsing and management of spatial objects. Compared to conventional field survey used in roadside facility management, the method enables faster, easier, and more efficient construction of spatial data. The suggested video GIS can be applied not only to roadside facility management but also to many similar projects of central or local governments that are related to GIS.

  • In this study, we utilized 2D conformal transformation method to give coordinatesbased on GPS surveying data to NAHMIS (National Highway Management Information System) drawings which are lack of coordinates. To determine the best method which is comparable with GPS digital map, we compared a transformation result obtained by unique parameters applied to the whole region of about 20 km of the NAHMIS drawings and the similar result of the tile based transformations. As the result of map joining, the error was within 2 m for both cases. In this way, NAHMIS can be used for a systematic management of construction drawings. Moreover, NAHMIS can contribute the management of highway and the data exchange between other systems by a unification of coordinate system.

  • Red phosphors, $Sr_2Si_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$, were synthesized as a single-phase crystal structure by optimizing carbon and $Eu^{2+}$ contents in a carbothermal reduction nitridation method. With increasing $Eu^{2+}$ contents, the photoluminescence spectra were red-shifted from 600 nm peak for 1 mol% for to 700 nm for 7 mol%. It was suggested that this red shift is attributed to the energy transfer from one low-energy sited $Eu^{2+}$ (1) to other high-energy sited $Eu^{2+}$ (2). Finally, the best red sample (620 nm emission peak and 80 nm half width for 3 mole% of $Eu^{2+}$) was packaged on a Blue LED together with two additional green and yellow phosphors, the fabricated White LED showed a high color-rendering index of 90 and white color coordinates of x= 0.321 and y = 0.305.
