  • In the field of construction, research on smart construction technology is being actively pursued as a measure to increase productivity and efficiency. The technology that links 3D scanning and BIM of smart construction technology is in the limelight as a technology for checking the state of buildings in the field of architecture. It is thought that these techniques will be of great help in solving problems when the amount of inspection targets is large, such as confirmation of the rebar arrangement intervals, and therefore a large number of human resources are required. Therefore, in this study, we would like to apply 3D scanning to rebar construction to confirm whether the rebar arrangement can be confirmed according to the design drawing. In the study, the wall rebar of the rebar placed at the actual construction site was directly scanned to extract data, and the rebar placing status was confirmed through type analysis. As a result of analyzing the reinforcing bar arrangement state based on the data obtained by 3D scanning, it was found that the technology can be utilized.

  • Recently, in the smart construction field, it is possible to construct spatial information of 3D data base quickly and accurately using drones, LiDARs and ARs,. Most public ordering institutions are pushing for the efficiency of construction work through establishing and announcing road maps and guidelines for utilizing BIM for the entire life cycle of construction. However, in most policies, the impact of 3D data on the entire life cycle is limited by only partially constructing and utilizing 3D data or by being mentioned. In addition, many public institutions, construction companies and planning companies did not actively utilize survey information during the actual construction phase, despite the possibility of using 3D survey information. In order to confirm the utilization of survey information, a total of eight private construction companies were selected and interviewed by experts. The analysis shows that most of companies lack the performance of drone measurements or have a lack of awareness of advantages, and among them, construction companies are relatively active. Based on these opinions, this study examined the usability of surveying information and examined measures to expand the utilization of survey information in legal and institutional aspects, technology development aspects and industrial development.

  • BIM-based 4D simulation makes people easily understand complex construction process using 3D graphics model and helps them review and identify the construction schedule in each phase of the construction process. Moreover, 4D simulation can be used as reference data to determine the validity of the process in the design phase and will be utilized as a measure for checking the construction process. Therefore 4D simulation of construction improves efficiency of project management. However, current commercial applications available for 4D simulation do not provide sufficient functions for connection of 3D models and process information. In this paper, we propose an automated generation method through the definition of the process based on a work method template and developed the template based schedule generation system (TSGS).

  • 3D VR modeling data can be used for powerful expression in construction, because it gives help to navigate a construction in 3D space easily. But the current status of VR technique visualizes only an external shape of a construction. A construction has not only its external shape data but also its constructive information. The constructive information is very important and can be expressed as the process of construction and deconstruction. Thus we research on recording and replay interface to manipulate 3D structured objects for the process of construction and deconstruction.

  • Unstructured workspaces which are typical in construction contain unpredicable activities as well as changing environments. Most automated and semi-automated construction tasks require real-time information about the local workspace in the form of 3D geometric models. This paper describes and demonstrates a new rapid, local area geometric data extraction and 3D visualization method for unstructured construction workspaces that combines human perception, simple sensors, and descriptive CAD models. The rapid approach will be useful in construction in construction in order to optimize automated equipment tasks and to significantly improve safety and a remote operator's spatial perception of the workspace.

  • Integrating 3D printing into architecture is gaining attention because it allows construction of construction structures without formwork. Among them, 3D printing construction materials must have high flow performance and at the same time ensure the performance that does not collapse during lamination. Therefore, in this study, we tried to determine the fluidity and lamination properties of mortar formulations, and set the thickener incorporation ratio as the formulation parameters. As a result of this experiment, it was confirmed that the lamination performance was secured from the thickening agent mixing rate of 1.5%.

  • Denoising, registering, and detecting changes of 3D digital map are generally conducted by skilled technicians, which leads to inefficiency and the intervention of individual judgment. The manual post-processing for analyzing 3D point cloud data of construction sites requires a long time and sufficient resources. This study develops automation technology for analyzing 3D point cloud data for construction sites. Scanned data are automatically denoised, and the denoised data are stored in a specific storage. The stored data set is automatically registrated when the data set to be registrated is prepared. In addition, regions with non-homogeneous densities will be converted into homogeneous data. The change detection function is developed to automatically analyze the degree of terrain change occurred between time series data.

  • 3D printing has the unique advantage of the ability to customize freeform products even in small quantities. It was recently applied successfully in the node connection system for the irregular shaped glass design of Gwanggyo Galleria Department Store. This was achieved by applying 3D printing technology for an innovative smart node design. The novel system offers flexibility to address various design challenges in addition to maximizing construction quality and reducing construction period. In this paper, we aim to examine the use of 3D printing based innovative technologies in the construction industry. With this aim in mind, we present the case of the Gwanggyo Galleria Department Store's smart nodes. The key objective of this study is creating awareness in the construction industry of the need to utilize fourth industrial revolution technology in architecture.

  • A 3D laser scanner is widely used in various fields such as games, movies, medicines, art, design, etc. Many studies for utilizing the 3D laser scanner in the fields of civil engineering have also been carried out, for example, for systematically managing tunnel and/or bridge construction. However, since a software which is directly applicable to Korean construction system does not exist, the amount of data obtained from existing the 3D laser scanner is too much to handle in a systematic way. Therefore, in this paper, a new data processing technique was established which can rapidly and effectively treat the 3D laser scanning data. Moreover, a software that can systematically manage the tunnel construction was developed. The developed software can assess the construction quality of tunnel excavation such as under-break, over-break, cracks, leakage and efflorescence, etc. A 3D laser scanner and the developed software was applied to an in-situ tunnelling site, and verified usefulness of the 3D laser scanner. The developed software may be useful for tunnel maintenance as well as for systematic management of tunnel construction.
