  • Intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) enables imaging of the three-dimensional (3D) microstructure of a blood vessel wall. While 3D vascular visualization provides detailed information of the vessel wall and intraluminal structures, a longitudinal imaging pitch that is several times bigger than the imaging resolution of the system has limited true high-resolution 3D imaging. In this paper we demonstrate high-speed intravascular OCT in vivo, acquiring images at a rate of 350 frames per second. A 47-mm-long rabbit aorta was imaged in 3.7 seconds, after a short flush with contrast agent. The longitudinal imaging pitch was 34 micrometers, comparable to the transverse imaging resolution of the system. Three-dimensional volume rendering showed greatly enhanced visualization of tissue microstructure and stent struts, relative to what is provided by conventional intravascular imaging speeds.

  • In this paper, we propose an object detection using a 4D imaging radar, which developed to solve the problems of weak cameras and LiDAR in bad weather. When data are measured and collected through a 4D imaging radar, the density of point cloud data is low compared to LiDAR data. A technique for clustering objects and extracting the features of objects through voxels in the cluster is proposed using the characteristics of wide distances between objects due to low density. Furthermore, we propose an object detection using the extracted features.

  • Integral imaging is a promising technology for 3D imaging and display. Many parameters affect the performance of 3D integral imaging systems. Enhanced system performance is acquired by optimization of these system parameters with respect to defined performance metrics. In this paper, we present an approach to optimize the performance of 3D integral imaging system in terms of performance metrics under fixed resource constraints. In this analysis, system parameters such as lens numerical aperture, pitch between image sensors, the number of image sensors, the pixel size, and the number of pixels are determined to optimize performance metrics. Wave optics is utilized to describe the imaging process.

  • Microfluidic devices can offer precise control for a verity of tasks involving biological specimen. In this paper, we propose an integrated system consisting of a microfluidic device along with a digital holographic microscope and present three-dimensional (3D) sensing and segmentation of biological microorganisms. When the individual microorganisms are inputted into the microfluidic channel, the holographic microscope records their holograms. The holograms are computationally reconstructed in 3D using Fresnel transform and the reconstructed phase images are used to search the position of microorganisms. Optical experiments are carried out and experimental results are presented to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed system.

  • Conventional imaging techniques such as ultraviolet, infrared, and X-ray are used mainly to diagnose the damaged parts of the painted cultural assets in Korea. These techniques, however, have limits in diagnosing damages of interlayer parts. We have performed and extensive study on the applicability of Terahertz(THz) analysis technique, introduced recently to this field of study on cultural properties in Korea, to diagnose painted cultural assets. The specimens, produced to imitate the damage types of Korean painted properties, were analyzed over their painting, supporting, and backing layers by terahertz pulse imaging technique. The analyzed results provided information about the cracks, the separated areas, and the separated distances between layers on the specimens. Our research, then, was extended to real painted cultural remains, Birojana Sam-shin Gwebul-do at Bongseon Temple in Namyang-ju, Korea National Treasure Number 1792, through which we have obtained 3D information about the extent and pattern of damages to the asset. These results demonstrate that terahertz 3D imaging technique has the capability of noncontact 3D diagnosis on painted cultural properties.

  • The terahertz wave (THz wave) is a band between infrared and microwaves and is defined as an electromagnetic wave having a frequency of 0.1 to 10 THz band. THz waves have the property of transmitting nonpolar materials, which the visible light cannot be transmitted, such as ceramics, plastics, and paper; and the photon energy is low, such as several meV. For this reason, non-destructive testing equipment based on THz imaging technology can be applied to the industrial field. Recently, THz imaging technology was applied in wide industrial fields, such as automobiles, batteries, food, medical, and security, and being actively studied. In this paper, we describe the research trends of terahertz imaging technology and experimental results. Furthermore, we summarize the recent commercialized terahertz camera. Finally, we present the research results in the field of the human security scanner system.

  • In this paper, we have designed a millimeter-wave passive imaging sensor that is able to use remote sensing and security applications. The brightness temperature distribution of a scene is measured with a antenna at an angular resolution of $3^{\circ}$. The sensor is controlled by a PC, achieving a fast performance by using a pan/tilter. The pan/tilter should be able to scan a 2-D image of the scene, with a linear raster scan pattern. The mechanical scans in azimuth and elevation whereby an image of $20{\times}20$ pixels is acquired within less than 400s. Raw images are immediately displayed and stored for postprocessing.
