Numerical Simulation of Air Flows in Human Upper Airway for Free Flap Reconstruction Following Resection Surgery in Oral Cancer Patients (구강암 절제 및 재건 수술에 따른 기도 내 공기 유동 시뮬레이션)

  • Oral cancer surgery changes the morphologic characteristics of the human upper airway. These changes can affect the flow patterns. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations with transient solver were performed to numerically investigate the air flows in the human upper airways depending oral cancer surgery. 3D reconstructed models were obtained from 2D CT images of one patient. For the boundary condition, the realistic breathing cycle of human was applied. The hydraulic diameters of cross-sections for post-surgical model are changed greatly along streamwise direction, so these variations can cause higher wall shear stress and flow disturbance compared to pre-surgical model. The recirculation flows observed in the protruding region result in the relatively large pressure drop. These results can be helpful to understand the flow variations after resection surgery of oral cancer.

항로표지 시뮬레이터의 항로표지 가시화 속성 구현

  • 우리나라 항만 입출항 통항 선박의 대형화, 고속화에 따른 해양안전사고가 증가하고 있어 항만 연안 해역에서의 해상교통안전 확보가 절실히 요구되고 있는 실정으로, 최근 국제항로표지협회(IALA)에서 항로표지 설계와 배치계획에 대한 의사결정을 지원할 수 있는 항로표지 전문 기능 시뮬레이터의 개발과 주요 항로의 항로표지 설계 및 계획 등을 검증할 수 있는 시스템 필요성을 제기하였다. 우리나라 주요 항로의 항로표지 설계와 적정 배치 여부 등을 검증하고 보완할 수 있는 시뮬레이션 시스템에 대한 개발이 진행되고 있다. 항로표지 3D 모델에 대한 항로표지 종류별, 속성별 세부사항을 검토하여 다양한 조합이 가능하도록 DB를 구성하였다. 항로표지 3D 모델링 작업데이터에 대하여 각 항로표지 시설물별 조합 경우의 수를 고려하여 다양한 조합이 가능하도록 DB 분류작업을 수행하였으며 항로표지별 폴리건수에 따른 샘플형상을 비교하여 시인성이 양호한 최소한의 폴리건 수(안) 제시하는 등 항로표지 시뮬레이션을 위한 항로표지 3D 구현 방식을 검토하였다.

  • Data compression technologies enable us to store and transfer large amount of data efficiently, and become more and more important due to increasing data size and the network traffic. Moreover, as a result of the increase of computing power, volumetric data produced from various applied science and engineering fields has been getting much larger. In this Paper, we present a volume compression scheme which exploits Daubeches wavelet transform. The proposed scheme basically supports lossy compression for 3D volume data, and provides unit-wise random accessibility. Since our scheme shows far lower error rates than the previous compression methods based on Haar filter, it could be used well for interactive visualization applications as well as large volume data compression requiring image fidelity.

  • Recently, In Aerospace area the interest of open source software is increasing. One of examples is celestia that is used for visualizing space environment with 3D. Celestia that is open source software has many advantages. First is very easy to use, second is that it can extend new features easily with script language. It is very useful to extend with other systems. But, celestia has a few of remote control features from remote site. In this paper I describe design and implementation of remote control module using UDP communication protocol between celestia and GenSim that is satellite simulation software developed by KARI and describe the problem and solution items are found during development duration.

  • The Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) operates at ambient temperature as a low-temperature fuel cell. During its operation, voltage losses arise due to factors such as operating conditions and material properties, effecting its performance. Computational simulations of fuel cells can be categorized into 1D simulation and CFD, chosen based on their specific application purposes. In this study, we carried out an analysis validation using 1D geometry and compared its performance with the results from 2D geometry analysis. CFD allows for the representation of pressure, velocity distribution, and fuel mass fraction according to the geometry, enabling the analysis of current density. However, the 1D simulation, simplifying governing equations to reduce time cost, failed to accurately account for fuel distribution and changes in fuel concentration due to fuel cell operations. As a result, it showed unrealistic results in the cell voltage region dominated by concentration loss compared to CFD.

  • PC 그래픽스 하드웨어의 급격한 발전에 따라 과거 슈퍼컴퓨터 급에서나 가능하였던 대용량 데이터의 볼륨 렌더링을 일반 PC에서 수행하려는 시도가 계속되고 있다. 특히, PC 그래픽스 하드웨어의 꼭지점 및 픽셀 쉐이더는 기존의 고정된 그래픽스 파이프라인에서 벗어나 사용자가 렌더링 과정에 개입하여 프로그래밍을 할 수 있도록 하여 많은 각광을 받고 있다. 그러나 그래픽스 하드웨어의 텍스쳐 메모리의 크기보다 큰 볼륨 데이터의 가시화는 아직까지 충분히 빠르지 못하며 텍스쳐의 압축으로 인하여 영상 품질도 좋지 못하다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 그래픽스 하드웨어의 프로그래밍 기능 중 꼭지점 좌표 및 텍스쳐 좌프의 조작, 그리고 픽셀 쉐이더를 통한 퐁 쉐이딩 연산을 이용하여 그래픽스 하드웨어의 메모리 크기보다 큰 대용량 볼륨 데이터를 고품질로 가시화하였다.

  • 감온액정을 추적입자로 사용한 PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry)법이 온도장을 정량적으로 가시화하기 위하여 사용되었다. 이 방법은 전체 유동장과 온도장을 동시에 계측할 수 있는 방법이지만, 온도장의 온도는 온도에 따라 변화되는 액정의 색을 정량적 온도 값으로 변환시켜야한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 감온액정에 의한 온도장의 광학적 정보를 정량적 온도로 변환시키는 신경회로망 보정기법을 개발하여 그 타당성을 검토한 후, 수직온도구배를 가진 액체의 기포에 의한 대류유동에 적용하여 기포에 의한 온도혼합과정을 정량적으로 가시화하고자 한다.

Three-dimensional vortex structure near a corner of a translating plate (병진운동하는 평판의 모서리에서의 3차원 와류 구조 가시화)

  • Three-dimensional vortex structures in the corner region of translating normal plates are visualized experimentally with defocusing digital particle image velocimetry. Vortex formation processes for three plates with corner angle $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, and $120^{\circ}$ are compared in order to study the effect of corner shape on vortex formation. In all cases, the self-induction of the starting vortex and its interaction with the potential flow induced by the moving plate cause the vortex to change its form dynamically after the plate starts to translate. While the vortex near a corner follows the plate in the low corner angle of $60^{\circ}$, the vortex separates early from the plate and its forward motion becomes slow in the high corner angle of $120^{\circ}$. It is also found that the starting vortex can transport inward at the corner, which depends on the corner angle.

  • Recently, the 3D image of the geotechnical information has been constructed along with the 3D integrated underground space mapping project. Prior to the visualization of the 3D image of the geotechnical information, it is necessary to analyze and verify the accuracy of the geotechnical information. Previous studies evaluated the precision of collected geotechnical information DB to validate the quality of the collected DB and later studies on the 3D precision were performed to provide the basic data for the 3D integrated underground space map. In this study, practical application methodologies are suggested based on the previous studies to improve the accuracy of the applied geotechnical information and further to improve the reliability of the constructed 3D integrated underground space map.

  • In this paper, we used the color transfer function and the opacity transfer function for the internal 3D object visualization of an image volume data. In transfer function, creating values of between boundaries generally is ambiguous. We concentrated to extract boundary features for segmenting the visual volume rendering objects. Consequently we extracted an image gradient feature in spatial domain and created a multi-dimensional transfer function according to the GPU efficient improvement. Finally using these functions we obtained a good research result as an implementing object boundary visualization of the graphic hardware based 3D texture mapping.
