분말고속도공구강을 활용한 베어링 레이스 열간 단조 금형의 수명 및 기계적 특성 (Life and Mechanical Properties of Hot Former Die for Bearing Race using P/M High Speed Steel)

  • P/M high speed steel (1.26% C, 4.42% Cr, 6.54% W, 4.92% Mo, 3.21 % V, 8.77% Co, bal. Fe) was applied to hot former die. It showed that the die life became 2.7 times higher than that of cast/wrought SKH 55 tool steel which is commercially used. The increase of die life was corresponding to the improved hardness and transverse rupture strength of PM high speed steel due to the finer grain and carbide as well as the uniform carbide distribution. The P/M high speed steel with the promoted die life could be an alternative to the conventional SKH55.

장기간 사용한 12%Cr강 보일러 튜브의 산화스케일에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Oxide Scale of the Long Term Serviced 12%Cr Boiler Tube Steel)

  • The internal oxide scale of twelve superheater and reheater tubes were tested which were serviced for 30,000~120,000 hours in thermal power plants. The oxide scale was formed in three layers. The Cr-rich area was observed beneath the original metal surface. The hematite ($Fe_2O_3$) phase was formed on the outer surface. The intermediate layer was magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$). The thickness of Cr-rich layer was about half of the total scale. All layers grew during the operation hour of the plant. The thickness of thickest scale was 0.2mm in superheater tubes. This can increase the tube metal temperature about $7^{\circ}C$ more than initial state. $7^{\circ}C$ tube metal temperature can reduce tube life about 30%, but the boiler tube's design margin is big enough therefore it has been analyzed that it would not effect on the life span.

  • In this study, a super carburizing treatment was applied to improve roller pitting fatigue life. It produced excellent properties of surface hardness and temper softening resistance by forming precipitation of fine and spherodized carbides on a tempered marstensite matrix through the repeated process of carburization and diffusion after high temperature carburizing step 1. The cycle II performed two times carburizing/diffusion cycle (process) after super carburization at $1,000^{\circ}C$ had fine and spherodized carbides to subsurface $200{\mu}m$. In this case, the carbide was $(Fe,Cr)_3C$ and there was not any massive carbides. In the case of Cycle II, the roller pitting fatigue life had a 6.15 million cycles. It was improved 48% compared to normal gas carburizing treatment.

  • 본 연구에서는 제 1보에 밝힌 바 있는 용접 HAZ조직의 파괴인성에 영향을 주 는 PWHT 유지시간과 가열속도에 이어, 용접 HAZ의 불안정포성파괴에 미치는 용접잔유 응력의 영향을 상세히 밝히기 위하여 일층 용접을 실시하고, 이 용접재의 용접HAZ에 단축상태의 일정한 응력을 작용시켜 주면서 소정의 열처리를 실시함으로써 용접후 열 처리시 용접HAZ에 작용된 응력의 크기가 파괴인성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 COD파 괴인성시험, 미소경도시험, 파면관찰을 통하여 고찰하고자 한다.

  • The effect of tempering temperature on the three point bending fatigue behavior of a P/M high speed steel JYPS-23 (1.28% C, 4.20% Cr, 6.40% W, 5.00% Mo, 3.10% V, bal. Fe) was investigated. The number of cycles to failure of the specimen austenitized at $1175^{\circ}C$ drastically increased with increasing tempering temperature. As tempering temperature increased from 500 to $620^{\circ}C$, the volume fraction and average size of carbides (MC or M6C) did not significantly changed, while hardness decreased drastically. The reduced hardness is due to the softening of matrix, which increased the resistance of the fatigue crack propagation. For a practical application, powder compacting test were also conducted with the P/M high speed steel punches tempered at 500, 580, and $620^{\circ}C$. The number of compacting cycles to failure of the punches also increased with increasing tempering temperature.

  • In order to evaluate the effect of Nb on wear properties of high speed steel(HSS) by powder metallurgy, niobium-alloyed HSS have been prepared by adding 0%, 1%, 3% and 5%Nb to HSS of 6%W-5%Mo-4 %Cr-5%V-5%Co. Sliding wear tests were conducted at various sliding speed conditions under the constant pressure using a pin-on-disc type machine. The results of this study show that the wear resistance of HSS by powder metallurgy was increased by the addition of Nb within the range of sliding speed used in this experimental study. However, the amount of Nb did not improve the wear resistance. It may be due to the thermal stability of carbide and high temperature properties of the matrix containing Nb comparing to that without Nb.

  • Lean duplex stainless steels have been developed in Korea for the purpose of being used in the seawater systems of industry. There are also many important seawater systems in nuclear power plants. These systems supply seawater to cooling water condenser tubes, heat exchanger tubes, related pipes and chlorine injection systems. The flow velocity of some part of seawater systems in nuclear power plants is high and damages of components from corrosion are severe. The considered lean duplex stainless steels are STS329LD (20.3Cr-2.2Ni-1.4Mo) and STS329J3L (22.4Cr-5.7Ni-3Mo) and PRENs of them are 29.4 and 37.3 respectively. Physical, mechanical and micro-structural properties of them are evaluated, and electrochemical corrosion resistance is measured quantitatively in NaCl solution. Critical Pitting Temperatures (CPT)s are measured on these alloys and pit depths are evaluated using laser microscope. Long period field tests on these alloys are now being performed, and some results are going to be presented in the following study.

  • Super austenitic stainless steels shows the high PRE (Pitting Resistance Equivalent) number and the good corrosion resistance. This work controlled the Co contents in Fe-31Cr-1.7Mo-27Ni-0.25N alloys to elucidate the effect of cobalt contents on the biocompatibility and corrosion resistance. Increasing Co contents, the hardness of the annealed alloys tends to be reduced. In aged alloys, cobalt decreased the increments of hardness by aging treatment. Cobalt decreased the critical pitting temperature (CPT) in 6% $FeCl_3$ + 1% HCl solution, but improved the anodic polarization behavior in Hanks' balanced salt solution and artificial saliva solution. Repassivation rate in artificial body solutions was improved by increasing cobalt contents, but didn't show the linear relationship to PRE number of the alloys. The experimental alloys showed the non-cytotoxicity because of its high corrosion resistance.

  • Creep-fatigue crack growth behavior at the heat affected zone of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel weldment has been experimentally studied. Load hold times of the tests for trapezoidal fatigue wave-shapes were varied among 0, 30, 300 and 3,600 seconds. Time-dependent crack growth rates were characterized by the $C_{t}$ estimated with the equation proposed by the previous finite element analysis work. It was concluded that the $C_{t}$ values calculated from the properties of parent metal were quite comparable to the accurate $C_{t}$ values calculated from both of weld and parent metals.etals.

PREDICTION OF MARTENSITE START TEMPERATURES OF HIGHLY ALLOYED STEELS

  • We propose an empirical equation to predict the martensite start temperatures of highly alloyed steels containing more than 3 wt.% of Ni or Cr or 2 wt.% of Mo, W, or Co. The martensite start temperature calculated by the proposed equation was in good agreement with experimental data owing to not only the derivation from experimental data of alloy steels with a wide range of chemical compositions but also the interaction term between carbon and carbide-forming alloying elements.
