This paper demonstrates the performance of industrial precise measurement using the digital close-range photograrmmetric system based on a off-the-shelf CCTV-type CCD camera. The system was constructed with a CCD camera and a PC with a frame grabber, coupled with digital image mensuration and self-calibrating bundle adjustment techniques. An artificial fish reef with cubic shape was taken as an object for the application test of the system and the digital images were acquired on multi-station convergent network around the object. The geometric calibration of the CCD camera and the phototriangulation of the entire surface of the object was carried out simultaneously by means of self-calibrating bundle adjustment technique. Also the system comprising a high resolution still-video camera Kodak DCS, which high accuracy potential has been already established, were employed in similar network condition. Then the results from two different camera systems were compared in the accuracies of phototriangulation.

This study recorded an object using a digital video recorder, and then tried to estimate 3-D positional information and to reconstruct an image. Firstly, the accuracy of measurement results from a video recorder was evaluated and tested for an applicability, then it applied to a real object to construct 3-D digital model. This study assumed that there is no lens distortion in a video recorder, and all bundles should precisely pass through the projection center of a lens. The image size for orientations is determined by the size of CCD chip and the number of pixels. The average squared error from the result by a digital video recorder and that by triangular survey from 1-second theodolite shows 0.0173m error in x,y coordinates. Without knowing the accurate information on the lens distortion and the coordinates of the projection center, this study reasonably produces acceptable results in the reconstruction of 3-D model. In consequence, this study found that the image from a digital video camera can be reconstructed 3-D model only from the information on a camera type.
The measurement of breakup length of viscous liquid jet in stagnant air was conducted by a 3CCD digital video camera. The nozzle diameters of 4, 6, 8mm with L/d=50 were selected and the dynamic viscosity of viscous liquid made of glycerine and water was in the range of $1.061\times10^{-6}m^2/s$ to $4.935\times10^{-5}m^2/s$. The critical velocity is decreased and the breakup length is increased with the increase of nozzle diameter at the same dynamic viscosity of liquid. At the same nozzle diameter, the breakup length and the critical velocity are both increased with the increase of dynamic viscosity of liquid. It is found in the theoretical analysis that the initial disturbance level is the main cause of occurrance of critical Reynolds number in the stability curve. The comparison of experimental critical Reynolds number and the empirical correlation by Tanasawa and Toyota reveals the relatively good agreement.

This paper describes automatic gain control circuit (AGC) design techniques for CMOS CCD camera interface systems. The required gain of the AGC in the proposed system is controlled directly by digital bits without conventional extra D/A converters and the signal settling behavior is almost independent of AGC gain variation at video speeds. A capacitor-segment combination technique to obtain large capacitance values considerably improves the effective bandwidth of the AGC based on switched-capacitor techniques. A proposed layout scheme for capacitor implementation shows AGC matching accuracy better than 0.1 %. The outputs from the AGC are transferred to a 10b A/D converter integrated on the same chip. The proposed AGC is implemented as a sub-block of a CCD camera interface system using a 0.5 um n-well CMOS process. The prototype shows the 32-dB AGC dynamic range in 1/8-dB steps with 173 mW at 3 V and 25 MHz.

Patient dose verification is one of the most important parts in quality assurance of the treatment delivery for radiation therapy. The dose distributions may be meaningfully improved by modulating two dimensional intensity profile of the individual high energy radiation beams In this study, a new method is presented for the pre-treatment dosimetric verification of these two dimensional distributions of beam intensity by means of a charge coupled device video camera-based fluoroscopic device (henceforth called as CCD-VCFD) as a radiation detecter with a custom-made software for dose calculation from fluorescence signals. This system of dosimeter (CCD-VCFD) could reproduce three dimensional (3D) relative dose distribution from the digitized fluoroscopic signals for small (1.0$\times$1.0 cm$^2$ square, ø 1.0 cm circular ) and large (30$\times$30cm$^2$) field sizes used in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). For the small beam sizes of photon and electron, the calculations are performed In absolute beam fluence profiles which are usually used for calculation of the patient dose distribution. The good linearity with respect to the absorbed dose, independence of dose rate, and three dimensional profiles of small beams using the CCD-VCFD were demonstrated by relative measurements in high energy Photon (15 MV) and electron (9 MeV) beams. These measurements of beam profiles with CCD-VCFD show good agreement with those with other dosimeters such as utramicro-cylindrical (UC) ionization chamber and radiographic film. The study of the radiation dosimetric technique using CCD-VCFD may provide a fast and accurate pre-treatment verification tool for the small beam used in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and can be used for verification of dose distribution from dynamic multi-leaf collimation system (DMLC).
With the advent of digital cinema, more and more movies are digitally produced, distributed via digital medium such as hard drives and network, and finally projected using a digital projector. However, digital cameras capable of shotting at 2K or higher resolution for digital cinema are still very expensive and bulky, which impedes rapid transition to digital production. As a low-cost solution for acquiring high resolution digital videos, we propose a hybrid camera consisting of a low-resolution CCD for capturing videos and a high-resolution CCD for capturing still images at regular intervals. From the output of the hybrid camera, we can synthesize high-resolution videos by software as follows: for each frame, 1. find pixel correspondences from the current frame to the previous and subsequent keyframes associated with high resolution still images, 2. synthesize a high-resolution image for the current frame by copying the image blocks associated with the corresponding pixels from the high-resolution keyframe images, and 3. complete the synthesis by filling holes in the synthesized image. This framework can be extended to making NPR video effects and capturing HDR videos.

In this paper, we propose a method to estimate pointing region in real-world from images of cameras. In general, arm-pointing gesture encodes a direction which extends from user's fingertip to target point. In the proposed work, we assume that the pointing ray can be approximated to a straight line which passes through user's face and fingertip. Therefore, the proposed method extracts two end points for the estimation of pointing direction; one from the user's face and another from the user's fingertip region. Then, the pointing direction and its target region are estimated based on the 2D-3D projective mapping between camera images and real-world scene. In order to demonstrate an application of the proposed method, we constructed an ICGS (interactive cinema guiding system) which employs two CCD cameras and a monitor. The accuracy and robustness of the proposed method are also verified on the experimental results of several real video sequences.

Structure-typed cultural heritage, objects of preservation are positioned as one of the very important heritage in the nation, and the preservation of prototypical structures become influential in national development and against natural disaster. For this reason, Digital Close Range Photogrammetry has recently been diversely used. Despite its popular use, the measurement has limits that make it unsuitable for photographing precise cultural heritage situated at high mountainous terrain or where people can not approach easily. These high gigantic stone statues are among the preserved structure-typed cultural heritage. In order to supplement the limits, when using the measurement, a camera tripod with +30m, a ladder truck and a shore should be equipped, which means additional equipment leads to it being a waste of cost and time. In this vein, a device was developed in detail, using a RC Helicopter installed with a CCD video camera with ease of control, safety, equipment, carrying, movement and approach, then checked image shot by a wireless modem at real time and considered the economical efficiency without re-photographing. Next, the author digitized the images of the nationally designated structure-typed cultural heritage, used materials on their restoration as the third dimension in order to construct the integrated management-information system for cultural heritage. Through the above processes, this study can provide specific information on 3D images and 3D CAD sections of structured-typed cultural heritage for both the public and specialists on the web. Moreover, it suggests the foundation to restore the damaged cultural heritage in the future by aiming for their effective management and preservation.
The beneficial aspects of applying emulsion fuels to combustion systems may be due to the changes of fuel properties which lead to the enhanced atomization characteristics. The spray characteristics of water/oil emulsified fuel injected from the pressure-swirl(simplex) atomizer using for oil burner were investigated. Four different water contents from 10 to 40 % by volume at 10% increment were prepared by mixing with the different contents of surfactants. Total amount of surfactant used was varied from 1 to 3 % by volume. This study demonstrates the influence of water and surfactant contents of emulsified fuel, injection pressure on the spray characteristics, i.e. Sauter mean diameter(SMD) and spray angle. The drop size distribution of the emulsified fuel spray was measured with a Malvem particle sizer. In order to measure the spray angle, the digital image processing was employed by capturing multiple images of the spray with 3-CCD digital video camera. It was evident that the addition of water and surfactant changes fuel properties which are the key parameters influencing the atomization of the spray. The increase in surfactant content results in the decrease of SMD and the increase in spray angle. The droplets decease with increase in injection pressure, but the influence of injection pressure in this experimental condition was less important than expected. The more viscous fuel with the increase of water content exhibits the larger droplets in the centerline of the spray, and the less viscous fuel in the outer edges of the spray. The increase in axial position from the nozzle causes the spray angle to decrease. The spray angle decreases with increase in water content. This is due to increase in viscosity with increase in water content.

As we perceive the world as 3-dimensional through our two eyes, we can extract 3-dimensional information from stereo images obtained from two or more cameras. Since stereo images have a large amount of data, with recent advances in digital video coding technology, efficient compression algorithms have been developed for stereo images. In order to compress stereo images and to obtain 3-D information such as depth, we find disparity vectors by using disparity estimation algorithm generally utilizing pixel differences between stereo pairs. However, it is not unusual to have stereo images having different intensity values for several reasons, such as incorrect control of the iris of each camera, disagreement of the foci of two cameras, orientation, position, and different characteristics of CCD (charge-coupled device) cameras, and so on. The intensity differences of stereo pairs often cause undesirable problems such as incorrect disparity vectors and consequent low coding efficiency. By compensating intensity differences between left and right images, we can obtain higher coding efficiency and hopefully reduce the perceptual burden of brain to combine different information incoming from two eyes. We propose several methods of intensity compensation such as local intensity compensation, global intensity compensation, and hierarchical intensity compensation as very simple and efficient preprocessing tool. Experimental results show that the proposed algerian provides significant improvement in coding efficiency.
