Power System Education System using 3-Dimensional Graphic Animation (3차원 그래픽 애니메이션을 이용한 전력계통 교육시스템)

  • This paper presents an efficient system for power system education using 3-D computer graphics animation in the PC environment. Several power system phenomena are simulated using Real-Time Digital Simulator. Results are transmitted through on-line communication line to PC for graphic animation, and simulated in the 3-D graphics animation. It can immediately reflect user control input and re-simulated this result. The proposed method was tested on both the sub-synchronous resonance phenomena and multi-bus system. It is expected that the proposed method would be helpful for the operator training as well as power system education.

A Method for Reproducing Stereo Images to Adjust Screen Parallax on a 3D Display (3D 디스플레이에서의 화면 시차 제어를 위한 입체 영상재생성 기법)

  • We present a method to reproduce in-between views from captured stereo images to control depth feeling that a user can perceive on a 3D display. The stereo images captured from a pair of cameras have a fixed viewpoint and a screen parallax which depend on the physical position and the distance between the cameras. In this paper, we produce stereo images of an intermediate viewpoint between two original cameras by a view interpolation on the input stereo images. Furthermore, the camera separation of the reproduced stereo images can be controlled by a linear interpolation coefficient used by the view interpolation. By using the proposed method, stereo images can be reproduced where the depth feeling and a three dimensional effect is suitable for the individual's eye separation or the characteristic of an application.

  • Graphical methods for the specification of the curvature as a function of two predictors are animated to see the effect of an added variable to the model. Through a 3D animated plot it might be difficult to find a sequence of interpretable plots. But examples demonstrate that useful information can be obtained by using rotation technique in 3D plot. Besides 3D plots, an example of 2D animated plot applied to the case of high correlation between predictors and an added predictor is also given. It implies that speed of the convergence to a certain image in a dynamic plot may be understood as an influence of collinearity.

  • With the advancements in the computer graphics sectors, the visual quality of the virtual clothing implemented by using the 3-dimensional digital clothing software system has been much improved during the past decade. Most of the cloth simulation procedures are complicated due to the multitude of parameters involved in the simulation in order to achieve the appearance of the actual textile fabrics or the movement of the actual clothing as close as possible. Bending properties affect the tactile and visual qualities of the textile fabrics along with the shear and tensile properties. In this study, dynamic bending properties, focused on the movement of the textile fabrics including damping ratio and amplitude, were measured by using a dynamic bending test system.

  • Though a demand for 3-D CG (Three-Dimensional Computer Graphics) drastically increases, traditional modeling system for virtual objects are very difficult to handle. Applying VR (Virtual Reality) technology is, however, able to make the modeling systems more efficiently and intuitively. In this paper, traditional modeling operations are analyzed and their problems are clarified. We discuss what can be improved with VR technology. Then, a guideline of merging VR technology into the modeling system is described. A new modeling system is proposed using a CAVE system which is utilized in the latest VR technology. This proposed system aids in creating 3-D objects with high immersion in VEs (Virtual Environments)

An Efficient Visualization Technique of Large-Scale Nodes Structure with Linked Information

  • This study is to suggest a visualization technique to display the relations of associated data in an optimal way when trying to display the whole data on a limited space by dealing with a large amount of data with linked information. For example, if you track an IP address through several steps and display the data on a screen, or if you visualize the human gene information on a 3-dimensional space, then it becomes even easier to understand the data flow in such cases. In order to simulate the technique given in this study, the given algorithm was applied to a large number of nodes made in a random fashion to optimize the data and we visually observed the result. According to the result, the technique given in this study is more efficient than any previous method in terms of visualization and utilizing space and allows to more easily understand the whole structure of a node because it consists of sub-groups.

  • This paper describes a development of system that enables the user to simulate the rockfall and landslide from slopes using physical engine. Until now, it will not be able to accomplish the virtual experiment of three-dimensional interpretation about slope informations, stability evaluation, the rockfall and landslide simulation, etc., because of absence of three-dimensional simulation systems which relates with slopes. With like that reason, this paper developed a simulator which is identical or similar the rockfall and the landslide where the possibility which will occur or occurred from actuality is high very actual condition from virtual experiment. For a simulator development, this paper uses the physical engine which is mainly used from computer game and animation development etc., And it will be show the process where the rockfall and landslide occurs with simulator. This simulator which sees the process where the rockfall and the landslide occur from three-dimension computer graphics theory and the physical engine, is a system which is the possibility of showing actual feeling. Therefore, the result of this paper is applied in vehicle travelling guidance system and intelligence traffic systematic etc., because of creates visual service and three-dimensional application of the slope information database which is developed in existing, and will be able to forecast the upgrade of user benefit planning and a service.

  • The word "cyber-space" was coined through the developments in communication technology and computers. It became possible to experience disembodied space in practice through a new kind of medium. this research aims to clarify the kansei stimulation elements as realistic sensed by users who use 3-dimensional expressions in cyber-space. The research was carried out by preparing 25 samples of computer graphics, and administering 3 questionnaires to 12 examinees. The Principal Ingredient Analysis method was used for its analysis and assessment. As a result of this research, it can be concluded that materials, reflection and shadow have the strongest effect on human beings' senses in cyber-space.

Multimodal Interaction on Automultiscopic Content with Mobile Surface Haptics

  • In this work, we present interactive automultiscopic content with mobile surface haptics for multimodal interaction. Our system consists of a 40-view automultiscopic display and a tablet supporting surface haptics in an immersive room. Animated graphics are projected onto the walls of the room. The 40-view automultiscopic display is placed at the center of the front wall. The haptic tablet is installed at the mobile station to enable the user to interact with the tablet. The 40-view real-time rendering and multiplexing technology is applied by establishing virtual cameras in the convergence layout. Surface haptics rendering is synchronized with three-dimensional (3D) objects on the display for real-time haptic interaction. We conduct an experiment to evaluate user experiences of the proposed system. The results demonstrate that the system's multimodal interaction provides positive user experiences of immersion, control, user interface intuitiveness, and 3D effects.

  • The Qis visualizational spreadsheet environment is shown to be extremely effective in supporting the organized visualization of multi-dimensional data sets. The Qis consists of the reconfigurative 2D arrangement of spreadsheet elements at run time and each spreadsheet element has a novel framestack. As the feature, it supports 3D data structure of each element on the Qis. It enables the visualization spreadsheet to effectively manage, rapidly organize, and compactly encapsulate multi-dimensional data sets for visualization. Using several experiments with scientific users, the Qis has been demonstrated to be a highly interactive visual browsing tool for the analysis of multidimensional data, displaying 2D and 3D graphics, and rendering in each frame of the spreadsheet.
