  • This study concerns with comparing low-dimensional reactor kinetics methods with a three-dimensional kinetics method to be used for safety analysis of light water reactors in order to suggest means of preparing input parameters required for low-dimensional methods. For this purpose a one-dimensional finite difference two-group diffusion theory code ODTRAN and a third-order Hermit polynomial-based point kinetics code POTRAN are developed and used to obtain low-dimensional solutions to the LRA-BWR kinetics benchmark problem. The results are compared with a three-dimensional modified Borresen's coarse-mesh solution of the kinetics problem by CMSNACK code. Through this comparison some simple but practical means of preparing input parameters of low-dimensional kinetics analysis methods are suggested.

  • Most of the research on three-dimensional interaction field have showed different accuracy in terms of sensing, mode and method. Furthermore, implementation of interaction has been a lack of consistency in application field. Therefore, this study is to suggest research trends of three-dimensional interaction using meta-analysis. Searching relative keyword in database provided with 153 domestic papers and 188 international papers covering three-dimensional interaction. Analytical coding tables determined 18 domestic papers and 28 international papers for analysis. Frequency analysis was carried out on method of action, element, number, accuracy and then verified accuracy by effect size of the meta-analysis. As the results, the effect size of sensor-based was higher than vision-based, but the effect size was extracted to small as 0.02. The effect size of vision-based using hand motion was higher than sensor-based using hand motion. Therefore, implementation of three-dimensional sensor-based interaction and vision-based using hand motions more efficient. This study was significant to comprehensive analysis of three-dimensional motion recognition for interaction and suggest to application directions of three-dimensional interaction.

  • We analyzed the 3-dimensional discharge characteristic in plasma display panel(PDP) cell using the 3-dimensional emission distribution of 828nm light measured by scanned point detecting method(SPDM). The emitted light distributions on the ITO electrode show the stronger light intensity near to the electrode gap than outside. Also, 828nm light is widely detected outside of the bus electrode. We consider that measurement using new SPDM is effective to analyze the discharge physics and propose the new panel structures.

  • As an improvement on the isoparametric element method, the derivation presented in this paper is close to that done by Wang (1990) for the 2-D finite element. We extend this idea to solve 3-D crack problems in this paper. A new displacement modelling is constructed with local solutions of three-dimensional cracks and a quasi-compatible isoparametric element for three-dimensional fracture mechanics analysis is presented. The stress intensity factors can be solved directly by means of the present method without any post-processing. A new method for calculating the stress intensity factors of three-dimensional cracks with complex geometries and loads is obtained. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the present method. The accuracy of the results obtained by the proposed element is demonstrated by solving several crack problems. The results illustrate that this method not only saves much calculating time but also increases the accuracy of solutions. Because this quasi-compatible finite element of 3-D cracks contains any singularities and easily meets the requirement of compatibility, it can be easily implemented and incorporated into existing finite element codes.

  • The root pile system is insitu soil reinforcement technique that uses a series of reticulately installed micropiles. In terms of mechanical improvement by means of grouted reinform ming elements, the root pile system is similar to the soil nailing system. The main difference between root piles and soil nailing are due to the fact that the reinforcing bars in root piles are normally grouted under high pressure and that the alignments of the reinforcing members differ. Recently, the root pile system has been broadly used to stabilize slopes and retain excavations. The accurate design of the root pile system is, however, a very difficult tass owing to geometric variety and statical indetermination, and to the difficulty in the soilfiles interaction analysis. As a result, moat of the current design methods have been heavily dependent on the experiences and approximate approach. This paper proposes a quasi-three dimensional method of analysis for the root pile system applied to the stabilization of slopes. The proposed methods of analysis include i) a technique to estimate the change in borehole radium as a function of the grout pressure as well as a function of the time when the grout pressure is applied, ii) a technique to evaluate quasi -three dimensional limit-equilibrium stability for sliding, iii) a technique to predict the stability with respect to plastic deformation of the soil between adjacent root piles, and iv) a quasi -three dimensional finite element technique to compute stresses and dis placements of the root pile structure barred on the generalized plane strain condition and composite unit cell concept talon형 with considerations of the group effect and knot effect. By using the proposed technique to estimate the change in borehole radius as a function of the grout pressure as well as a function of the time, the estimations are made and compar ed with the Kleyner 8l Krizek's experimental test results. Also by using the proposed quasi-three dimensional analytical method, analyses have been performed with the aim of pointing out the effects of various factors on the interaction behaviors of the root pile system.

  • When electromagnetic wave transmitted from the radar antenna hits the target, a specific type of electric field is formed according to the electrical characteristics and appearance of the target, which is called an RCS pattern. There are various commercial programs that calculate the RCS of the target and plot the RCS pattern. For the analysis of large targets such as warships or ships, a program with a high frequency analysis method, which has a faster calculation speed than the low frequency analysis method is suitable. XGTD, a high-frequency analysis program, can quickly plot a two-dimensional RCS pattern for 360 degrees of a target, but a three-dimensional RCS pattern cannot be obtained. In this paper, it is proposed that a method of plotting two-dimensional RCS patterns of a target from various angles using XGTD, generating a three-dimensional RCS pattern using this, and converting it into a three-dimensional antenna pattern file.

  • The authors have investigated the acoustic field analysis using the Constrained Interpolation Profile(CIP) Method recently proposed by Yabe. This study has examined the calculation accuracy of the three-dimensional(3-D) acoustic field analysis using the type C CIP method. In this paper we show phase error of type C CIP method and the dependence on the wave-propagation direction in the type C CIP acoustic field analysis, and then demonstrate that it gives less-diffusive results than conventional analysis. Moreover, in comparison between type C-1 CIP, type C-2 CIP, type M CIP and FDTD, reports the memory requirements and calculation time of each method.

  • A panel method based on potential flow theory is developed for the steady/unsteady aerodynamic analysis of arbitrary three-dimensional Blended Wing Body aircraft. The panel method uses the piecewise constant source and doublet singularities as a solution. This potential based panel method is founded on the Dirichlet boundary condition and coupled with the time-stepping method. The present method uses the time-stepping loop to simulate the unsteady motion of the aircraft. The present method can solve the three-dimensional flow over the complex bodies with less computing time and provide various aerodynamic derivatives to secure the stability of Blended Wing Body aircraft. That will do much for practical applications such as aerodynamic designs and analysis of aircraft configurations and flight simulation.

  • Recently, the crossing tunnel has been constructed frequently to connect the separated area by highway and railroad. The construction of crossing tunnel must be progressed while maintaining the existing traffic of the highway as well as railroad. There are many cross funnelling methods such as NTR, TRCM, Messer Shield, Front Jacking, and Pipe Roof Method. The advantages of adopting RPS(Roof Panel Shield) method in crossing tunnel construction with comparing other existing cross funnelling methods are needed a little volume of concrete and easy to change the direction of cutting shoe during the construction of pipe roof, The 3-dimensional numerical analysis of RPS to consider the arching effect was performed for the application in the crossing tunnel under railroad. The earth pressure distribution and settlement were predicted when the RPS method was applied during the excavation for crossing railroad tunnel construction.

  • Frictional loss in turbulent regime is abnormally increased compared with in laminar regime. Thus the consideration of temperature rise across fluid film is significant in analysis and conventional isothermal theory loses its usefulness for performance prediction. This paper proposes to the three-dimensional thermohydrodynamic analysis of finite journal bearings operating under turbulent condition using two-equation model($\kappa-\varepsilon$ model) proposed by Hassid & Poreh. The equations are solved numerically by finite difference method. We make the analysis applicable even at large eccentricity when back flow of the lubricants occurs and axial flow is no longer ignored compared to circumferential flow.
