  • Of all the rapid tooling (RT) methods currently available, thick-layer laminated tooling is the most suitable for large-scale, low-cost dies and molds. Currently, the determination of a lamina's contour or profile and the associated slicing algorithms are based on existing rapid prototyping (RP) data manipulation technology. This paper presents a new adaptive slicing algorithm developed exclusively for profiled edge laminae (PEL) tooling PEL tooling is a thick-layer RT technique that involves the assembly of an array of laminae, whose top edges are simultaneously profiled and beveled using a line-of-sight cutting method based on a CAD model of the intended tool surface. The cutting profiles are based on the intersection curve obtained directly from the CAD model to ensure geometrical accuracy. The slicing algorithm determines the lamina thicknesses that minimize the dimensional error using a new tool shape error index. At the same time, the algorithm considers the available lamination thicknesses and desired lamina interface locations. We demonstrate the new slicing algorithm by developing a simple industrial PEL tool based on a CAD part shape.

  • The objective of this study is to compare flood inundation models for small stream basin. HEC-RAS model was used for the analysis of one dimensional hydraulics and HEC-GeoRAS, Ras Mapper and RiverCAD models were applied for the flood inundation analysis in Gum Chung stream. Flood inundations are to simulate by flood inundation models using observed data and rainfall on each frequency and to compare with inundation area based on the flood plain maps. The results of this study are as follows; Area of flood inundations by HEC-GeoRAS model is similar to that of flood plain map and appears in order of RAS Mapper and RiverCAD model. Flood inundation area by RiverCAD model is to estimate lager than that of RAS Mapper and HEC-GeoRAS model in flood area on each frequency and the results show that they have a little difference in models of flood inundation analysis at small stream. Comparing the area of flood inundations by flood depth, the results of three models are relatively similar in flood depth as 2.0 m below, and RiverCAD model shows a significant difference in flood depth as 2.0 m or more.

  • Higher current-rating and improved thermal performance are being sought for existing medium-voltage vacuum circuit breakers(VCB) in order to meet market needs which require to be compact and downsized. In this paper, thermal performance of medium voltage vacuum circuit breaker was investigated through experiments and numerical analysis. We changed several major parameters of current-rating and heat sink affecting on thermal behaviors in the breaker and observed the results. To predict the temperature distribution in complex three-dimensional (3-D) VCB components and gas, the commercial package was used to simulate conjugate heat transfer. Although some assumptions and simplifications were introduced to simulate the model, results from the computational model were in good agreement with actual temperature rise measurements obtained from experiments.

  • This study is on a mathematical model of profile shifted involute gear, and this model is based on Camus's theory. Gear is general mechanical elements that used for power transmission between two shafts that interval is comparatively short. and it delivers bit power as accurate ratio of speed. The profile of Spur gear which is the most basic factor is divided into Trochoidal fillet curve and Involute curve. Involute curve is used a lot of a shape curve of machine parts such as a gear, a scroll compressor and a collar of centrifugal pump. However, It is poor to study the modeling of Trochoidal fillet curve and the three dimensions model shaped mathematical curve. So we draw three dimensions gear have accurate mathematical function using ADS(Automatic Drawing system), VisualLISP. To check accuracy and perfection, we make a program of checking Interference. and use for this study.

  • In this paper, the structure of traffic lights removed the wire for the completion of urban aesthetics is analyzed. The finite element model consists of shell elements from three-dimensional CAD model of actual traffic signal. Traffic light pole, horizontal stand shape, thickness, stiffeners, etc. are considered in this study. Analysis of stress and deformation is performed by applying wind load. When the wind load is applied, the result on traffic signal is analyzed. This study is to perform the basic tasks for improving the design.

  • Solid modeling refers to techniques for unambiguous representations of three-dimensional objects. Feature recognition is a sub-discipline focusing on the design and implementation of algorithms for detecting manufacturing information such as holes, slots, etc. in a solid model. Automated feature recognition has been an active research area in stolid modeling for many years, and is considered to be a critical component for CAD/CAM integration. This paper gives a technical overview of the state of the art in feature recognition research. Rather than giving an exhaustive survey, I focus on the three currently dominant feature recognition technologies: graph-based algorithms, volumetric decomposition techniques, and hint-based geometric reasoning. For each approach, I present a detailed description of the algorithms being employed along with some assessments of the technology. I conclude by outlining important open research and development issues.

  • It is very important to understand the 3-dimensional movement of a robot manipulator in developing a robot manipulator system. The robot design software package is required to test the specification. Usually these robot simulators are turn-key based and not possible to be used on the other robot system. The aim of this paper is to develop a general purpose robot simulator. AutoCad is selected for the developing environment to avoid the difficulties of building a cad system from the scratch. Because Autocad provides a semi-open structure to a Lisp programmer, it is quite successful to achieve the goal of building the simulator. At the moment the kinematic analysis is possible on the package. Further study will be advanced to the application and analysis of dynamic area, which would not be that difficult to be implemented, considering the many third party tools available for Autocad.

  • A CAD program has recently been introduced that can be directly developed into a three-dimensional human body shape and made into a pattern. It is possible to fabricate a bra that reflects the volume and surface area of the breast; however, it still needs to be verified. This study investigates the average size and shape of 20 big-breasted women and designs a brassiere pattern for women with large breasts using a 3D Flattening function of OptiTex PDS v15.6. In addition, the study verifies the reliability of the proposed method compared to a conventional brassiere pattern. The study results are as follows. First, the three dimensional measurement values were smaller than the direct measurement dimensions when the three dimension measurement dimensions of the subjects were compared with the direct measurement dimensions, the replica measurement dimensions and the three dimensional measurement dimensions. Second, the 3D flattening pattern reflects the actual shape, length, and area of the actual breast when comparing a brassiere pattern using a 3D shape and pattern reflecting the direct measurement.

  • During a wearer's movement, the apparel fabric layers collide each other in a highly complicated manner. The collision involves cloth-cloth, and cloth-body collision. The diversity of the textile fabrics, including silk, wool, cotton, and other synthetic fibers, together with the complex details of the apparel construction, makes the collision and other calculation procedure involved in the 3-dimensional clothing software system much more complicated. Therefore, there is a need to measure the behavior of the fabrics during the fabric collision cycles. In this study, as a first step, static measurements pertinent to the factors governing the appearance of the apparel fabrics were implemented. The drape profile, stiffness(Sd and Sf), tensile properties, thickness, and the air permeability were measured. The correlation between the parameters were calculated and reviewed. It is found that there is a high correlation of 0.97 between the actual fabric drape parameters and the 3D virtual fabric drape parameters. The measured drape coefficients of the fabrics show relatively good correlation with the measured fabric stiffness.
