  • In this study, the basic properties of cement paste with varying replacement ratio of micro-silica and fumed silica were analyzed to determine the suitability of nanomaterials for use as concrete admixtures. Referring to the ultra-high strength mix, the fluidity of cement paste was evaluated according to the nanomaterial replacement rate and the compressive strength characteristics were compared and analyzed. The related properties of the reactive nanomaterials to the cement hydrate were analyzed using SEM and EDS to observe the microstructure and identify the components of the hydration product. The reactive nanomaterials used in this study had tap densities between 0.061 and 0.264 g/cm3, which were lower than SF. Micro silica exhibited excellent compressive strength properties with increasing replacement ratio, but fumed silica, unlike micro white, obtained excellent compressive strength at replacement ratio of 0.01~0.1 %. The same trend was observed in the hydration characterization.

  • Extrusion concrete panel is made by extrusion of high viscosity paste. The high viscosity paste is made by mix of cement, silica, reinforced fiber and thickening agent in the dry mixer and wet mixer subsequently, extrusion in the extruder, and curing in the normal steam curer and high pressure steam curer subsequently. To increase a flexural strength of the panel, it is used inorganic fiber as like asbestos. But it was known that the asbestos was harmful to human being lately, in the domestic area it is restricted usage in the construction materials. So, it is demanded the alternative material for asbestos in the extrusion concrete panel. This study is to investigate that the sepiolite is possible to be the alternative of asbestos. The 3 types of sepiolite is applied to the extrusion concrete panel. To investigate the properties of the panel with sepiolite, it is compared the control with asbestos in the flexural strength, the specific density and the spot compressive strength. From the test results, it was found that the panel with sepiolite B is higher than the control with asbestos in the flexural strength and in the density.

  • This paper reports an experimental study into the rheological behaviour of Smart Dynamic Concrete (SDC). The investigation is aimed at quantifying the effect of the varying amount of mineral admixtures on the rheology, setting time and compressive strength of SDC containing natural sand and crushed sand. Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) in conjunction with the mineral admixtures was used in different replacement ratio keeping the mix paste volume (35%) and water binder ratio (0.4) constant at controlled laboratory atmospheric temperature ($33^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$). The results show that the properties and amount of fine aggregate have a strong influence on the admixture demand for similar initial workability, i.e., flow. The large amounts of fines and lower value of fineness modulus (FM) of natural sand primarily increases the yield stress of the SDC. The mineral admixtures at various replacement ratios strongly contribute to the yield stress and plastic viscosity of SDC due to inter particle friction and cohesion.

  • Cement concrete pavement has become more common in Korean highway systems. However, as its service period increases, there are some technical problems occurs and no clear solution is available primarily due to the lack of active researches. This research, hence, aims to develop a new mix proportion that may provide better strength and durability with extended service life. Based on a variety of literature reviews, the experimental variables were determined as unit cement content, S/a ratio and W/C ratio. From the experimental works, it is recommended to increase the unit cement content up to 375kg/$m^3$, 400kg/$m^3$ and 425kg/$m^3$. The target slump and air content were set 40mm and 5%, respectively. The maximum size of coarse aggregate was decided to be 25mm because of the easiness of supply in the field. The reduction of W/C ratio was necessarily required and decreased to 0.4 which was proven not to cause any mixing problem with the increased unit cement contents along with polycarbon-based high range water reducing agent. In addition, it was known that the S/a ratio could be reduced to 0.34. The lowered S/a might be possible because of the increased cement paste and hence increased cohesiveness and workability.

  • This study evaluated the storage stability of a variety of sauce products in the Korean market, determined primary quality indices for three typical products, and proposed functional relationships that are useful for determining shelf life at different temperatures. Most of the products examined were found to combine hurdles of low pH, low water activity, and the use of heat processing as methods for producing the required storage stability while maintaining the sensory quality of the products. For a meat extract solution produced for cold noodles (pH=4.3; $a_w=0.98$), the primary quality change determining shelf life was lipid oxidation, determined here by the TBA value. The primary quality index of a soybean paste seasoning mix (pH=4.0; $a_w=0.78$), which had a microbial load of 2.8 log (CFU/g), was a decrease in its pH. The primary quality index for a sandwich spread (pH=4.0; $a_w=0.88$) was changes in its surface color. The temperature dependence of changes in the primary quality indices can be described by the Arrhenius equation, which can estimate the shelf life at any arbitrary limit as a function of temperature. The activation energies for changes in the primary quality indices of the meat extract solution, the soybean paste seasoning, and the sandwich spread were 20.3, 27.2, and 43.5 kJ/mol, respectively.

  • purpose: This study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of Lithium Disilicate Glass-Ceramic by removable method of temporary cement on the abutment tooth. Material and Method: Sixty molar teeth of human with the occlusal surface up were mounted in acrylic resin blocks. The 45 specimens were prepared to exposure dentin by diamond bur and the eugenol-containing temporary cement($Cavitec^{TM}$ ($KERR^{(R)}$, U.S.A)was applied to the dentin surfaces. After initial removal of the cement with a dental explorer, the specimens were divided into 4 groups of 15 specimens each. The dentin surfaces of the specimens were treated by rotary instrument with as follow pastes: $Zircate^{(R)}$ prophy paste(Dentsply, U.S.A), Radent Prophy Paste(Pascal company, inc. U.S.A), and Dental pumice(Wip mix corporation,U.S.A). An adhesive resin luting agent(Variolink $II^{(R)}$, Ivoclar Vivadent, Leichtenstein) including Monobond-S and $Excite^{(R)}$ was applied to all specimens. The ceramic specimens were made with an A1 ingot of IPS Empress $II^{(R)}$ (Ivoclar Vivadent, Leichtenstein). After the specimens were stored in distilled water for 48hr, the shear bond strength(MPa) was measured by a Universal testing machine(Zwick 145641, Zwick, Germany) at a 1mm/min cross-head speed. The data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. Results: In all group, there were no significant differences in comparison with the control group(p>0.05). The pattern of most failure showed the mixed type of cohesive and adhesive failure. Conclusion: Resin bond strength of IPS Empress $II^{(R)}$ was not affected by removal method of the temporary cement.

  • A variety of polycarboxylate ether (PCE)-based superplasticizers are commercially available. Their influence on the rheological retention and slump loss in respect of concrete differ considerably. Fluidity and slump loss are the cardinal features responsible for the quality of concrete. These are related to the dispersion of cement particles and the hydration process which are greatly influenced by type of polycarboxylate ether (PCE)-based superplasticizers. On the backdrop of relatively less studies in the context of rheological retention of high strength self-consolidating concrete (HS-SCC), the experimental investigations were carried out aiming at quantifying the effect of the six different PCE polymers (PCE 1-6) on the rheological retention of HS-SCC mixes containing two types of Ordinary Portland Cements (OPC) and unwashed crushed sand as the fine aggregate. The tests that were carried out included $T_{500}$, V-Funnel, yield stress and viscosity retention tests. The supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash (FA) and micro-silica (MS) were also used in ternary blend keeping the mix paste volume and flow of concrete constant. Low water to binder ratio was used. The results reveal that not only the PCEs of different polymer groups behave differently, but even the PCEs of same polymer groups also behave differently. The study also indicates that the HS-SCC mixes containing PCE 6 and PCE 5 performed better as compared to the mixes containing PCE 1, PCE 2, PCE 3 and PCE 4 in respect of all the rheological tests. The PCE 6 is a new class of chemical admixtures known as Polyaryl Ether (PAE) developed by BASF to provide better rheological properties in even in HS-SCC mixes at low water to binder mix. In the present study, the PCE 6, is found to help not only in reduction in the plastic viscosity and yield stress, but also provide good rheological retention over the period of 180 minutes. Further, the early compressive strength properties (one day compressive strength) highly depend on the type of PCE polymer. The side chain length of PCE polymer and the fineness of the cement considerably affect the early strength gain.

  • In this study, a mix design for self compacting concrete was based on Okamura's method and concrete incorporated just a ground granulated blast furnace slag. Replacement ratio of slag is in the range of $20-80\%$ of cement matrix by volume. For the optimal self compactability in mixture incorporating ground granulated blast furnace slag, the paste and mortar tests were first completed. Then the slump flow, elapsed time of 500mm slump flow, V funnel time and filling height by U type box were conducted in concrete. The volume of coarse aggregate in self compacting concrete was in the range of $50-60\%$ to the solid volume percentage of coarse aggregate. Finally, the compressive and splitting tensile strengths were determined in the hardened self compacting concrete incorporating ground granulated blast furnace slag. From the test results, it is desirable for self compacting concrete that the replacement of ground granulated blast furnace slag is in the range of $40-60\%$ of cement matrix by volume and the volume of coarse aggregate to the solid volume percentage of coarse aggregate with a limit of $55\%$.

  • In the cement industry, in order to reduce CO2 emissions, technology for raw materials substitution and conversion, technology for improving process efficiency of utilizing low-carbon new heat sources, and technology for collecting and recycling process-generated CO2 are being developed. In this study, we conducted a basic experiment to contribute to the development of CSC that can store CO2 as carbonate minerals among process-generated CO2 capture and recycling technologies. Three types of CSC clinker with different SiO2/(CaO+SiO2) molar ratios were prepared with the clinker raw material formulation, and the characteristics of the clinker were analyzed. As a result of analysis and observation of CSC clinker, wollastonite and rankinite were formed. In addition, as a result of the carbonation test of the CSC paste, it was confirmed that calcite was produced as a carbonation product. The lower the SiO2/(CaO+SiO2) molar ratio in the CSC clinker chemical composition, the lower the wollastonite production amount, and the higher the rankinite production amount. And the amount of calcite production increased with the progress of carbonation of the CSC paste specimen. It is judged that rankinite is more reactive in mineralizing CO2 than wollastonite.

  • In this study, the rheological properties of cement paste composites applied with carbon-based nano-materials were experimental analyzed. Flow table and rheological properties, compressive strength were measured in the cement paste using graphene oxide asqueous solution and carbon nanotube aqueous solution. When carbon nano-materials was mixed in an aqueous solution, flow decreased and plastic viscosity and shear stress were increased. In particular, graphene oxide rapidly increased the plastic viscosity and shear stress. In the case of carbon nanotube aqueous solution, when less than 0.2 % was mixed, the increase rate was low compared to graphene oxide. This is because the specific surface area of graphene, which is in the form of a plate, is large. The compressive strength showed a small amount in strength increase when graphene mix, and CNT had a strength about 112 % of OPC. Carbon-based nanomaterials, is considered that CNT are suitable more to be used construction materials. However, extra studies on the surfactant to be used for mixing proportion and dispersion will be needed.
