Wood powder as reinforcing fillers and polyethylene as a matrix have been used for wood plastic composites (WPC). In preparing WPC, counting agents (such as MA and MAOMS) were also used in order to improve the bonding force between matrix and fillers. In this study, the effect of wood powder, MA, MAOMS concentration on the mechanical properties and interface phenomena on the composites was evaluated The tensile strength of 3wt% MA-treated composites reached its maximum value of 25.91MPa while 3wt% MAOMS-treated composites attained the maximum value of 22.48MPa. The maximum impact strength of MA and MAMOS-treated composites were 44.38J/m and 36.09J/m, respectively, when 3wt% of coupling agent was introduced.
Total malonaldehyde(MA) in several dried fishery products (Alaska pollack, anchovy, white bait and squid) was determined by distillation and TBA reaction. In particular, MA in a water extract of dried anchovy was fractionated into bound and free MA on a Sephadex G-10 column. Among the three elution peaks, two peaks were found to be bound MA representing 94.5% of the total MA in the water extract and free MA constituted only a minor peak.
Objectives : To clarify the possible effect of Lycium chinese Mill (LC)., Morus alba L (MA)., and Lycium chinese Mill. +Morus alba L. (LC+MA), we have examined their influence on the development of pulmonary eosinophilic inflammation in the asthmatic murine model. Methods : Female Balb/c mice (5weeks) were immunized on two different days (21 days and 7 days before inhalational exposure) by intraperitonial injections of 0.2ml alum-precipitated Ag containing $100{\mu}g$ of OVA bound to 4 mg of aluminum hydroxide in PBS. Seven days after the second sensitization, mice were exposed to aerosolized ovalbumin for 30 minutes/day on 3 days/week for 8 weeks (at a flow rate of 250 L/min, 2.5% ovalbumin in normal saline) and, LC, MA, and LC+MA (500 mg/kg) were orally administered 3 times per a week for 8 weeks. Results : The suppressive effect of LC, MA, and LC+MA were demonstrated by the accumulation of eosinophills into airways, with the reduction of eosinophil, total lung leukocytes numbers. These were correlated with the marked reduction of IL-5, IL-13 and IL-4 levels in the BALF and serum. OVA-specific IgE levels were also decreased in serum and BAL from these mice. LC, MA, and LC+MA decreased eosinophil CCR3 expression and CD11b expression in lung cells. Conclusions : These results indicate that LC, MA, and LC+MA have high inhibitory effects on airway inflammation and hyper-responsiveness in the asthmatic murine model. The suppression of IL-5, IgE, eosinophil CCR3 expression and CD11b expression, and the increase of IFN-${\gamma}$ production in BALF seem to contribute to this effect. Hence, the results indicated that LC, MA, and LC+MA could act as a immuno-modulator which possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-asthmatic property by modulating the imbalance between Th1 and Th2 cytokines.
Various concentrations of malonaldehyde (MA) produced upon hydrolysis of 1, 1, 3,3-tetraethoxypropane (TEP) were reacted with 2-thiobarbituric acid (TBA)and th e contents of MA-TBA complex were measured both with spectrophotometer and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). As the concentrations of MA-TBA increased, their absorbances and the corresponding HPLC peak areas increased. The correlation coefficient between absorbances and HPLC peak areas of MA-TBA peaks from the other compounds and butanol extraction of the complex increased its recovery its recovery by 29.4% . Measurement of the content of MA-TBA complex for monitoring the development of lipid oxidation was proven to be successful with the use of high performance liquid chromatography.

U-Pb ages were determined from the granitic rocks from central and northeastern parts of Yeongnam massif. Porphyritic granite of Seosang-myeon, Hamyang-gun near the boundary with Anui-myeon shows age of $225.4{\pm}4.1Ma$. Foliated granodiorites of Anui-myeon, Hamyang-gun and Sinwon-myeon, Geochang-gun are $195.6{\pm}1.8Ma$ and $194.2{\pm}2.4Ma$ old respectively. Granites from Hari-myeon and Buksang-myeon of Geochang-gun show almost identical ages of $198.4{\pm}2.5Ma$ and $194.6{\pm}2.6Ma$ respectively, while foliated granodiorite of Yeongju shows an age ot $171.3{\pm}2.3Ma$. Combining with previously reported results, Triassic granitoids were emplaced almost identically at ca. 225 Ma throughout the areas of Hamyang and Sangju oi Yeongnam massif and Baengnok, Jeomchon and Goesan of Okcheon metamorphic belt. There were significant gap of non-magmatism before the resume of granitic activities over the large areas of Hamyang-gun, Geochang-gun, Gimcheon-si and Seongju-gun from Triassic-Jurassic boundary to early Jurassic, 200-194 Ma. Igneous activity within the Yeongnam massif of this period has not been reported from the Okcheon belt or Gyeonggi massif and may reflect distinct tectonic environment. Around 170 Ma, when Yeongju granodiorite was emplaced, there were active granitic magamtism throughout the Yeongnam massif, Okcheon belt and also Gyeonggi massif.
We present the K-Ar age dating results of <0.1㎛ fraction of the selected fault rocks from the Yangsan fault in the Yeonghae area. Based on the mineralogical characterization, the <0.1㎛ fractions were mostly composed of 1Md illite polytype, or I-S interstratified mineral, which should be formed by fault activation. Therefore, we determined the timings of fault activation events by analyzing K-Ar age-dating for the <0.1㎛ fractions. Accordingly, the activation timings of Yangsan Fault in the Yeonghae area were determined as 45.5±1.1 Ma, 50.9±1.2 Ma, 58.2±1.3 Ma, 60.8±1.4 Ma, 65.3±1.6 Ma, 66.8±1.5 Ma, 67.1±1.5 Ma, and 75.1±1.7 Ma. These results indicate that at least 5-times of major fault events occurred in the Yangsan fault from late Mesozoic to Cenozoic Era. In the outcrop, age dating results tend to be younger age from the location of the oldest sample(75.1±1.7 Ma) toward to the both sides. From the results, it suggests that the fault activation extends from the location of oldest age saple to both sides. This geochronological research of the multiple fault activation ages for the Yangsan Fault will provide crucial information for establishing the tectonic evolution model in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula.
Fabrication of soft magnetic composite powders for the $Fe_2O_3-Ca$ system by mechanical alloying(MA) has been investigated at room temperature. It is found that soft magnetic composite powders in which CaO is dispersed in ${\alpha}-Fe$ matrix are obtained by MA of $Fe_2O_3$ with Ca for 5 hours. Changes in magnetization and coercivity also reflect the details of the solidstate reduction process of hematite by pure metal of Ca during MA. The saturation magnetization of MA powders increases with increasing MA time and reaches a maximum value of 65 emu/g after 7 hours of MA. The average grain size of ${\alpha}-Fe$ in MA powders, estimated by diffraction line-width, gradually decreases with increasing MA time and reaches 52 nm after 5 hours of MA. It can also be seen that the coercivity of the 5-hour MA sample is fairly high at 190 Oe, suggesting that the grain refinement of already-produced ${\alpha}-Fe$ tends to clearly occur during MA.

Autophagy is a process of intracellular bulk protein degradation, in which the accumulated proteins and cytoplasmic organelles are degraded. It plays important roles in cellular homeostasis, apoptosis, and development, but its role during early embryo development remains contentious. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated the effects of 3-methyladenine (3-MA) on early embryonic development in pigs, we also investigated several indicators of developmental potential, including mitochondrial distribution, genes expressions (autophagy-, apoptosis- related genes), apoptosis and ER-stress, which are affected by 3-MA. After in vitro maturation and fertilization, presumptive pig embryos were cultured in PZM-3 medium supplemented with 3-MA for 2 days at $39^{\circ}C$ 5% $CO_2$ in air. Developmental competence to the blastocyst stage in the presence of 3-MA was gradually decreased according to increasing concentration. Thus, all further experiments were performed using 2 mM 3-MA. Blastocysts that developed in the 3-MA treated group decreased LC3-II intensity and expressions of autophagy related genes than those of the untreated control, resulting in down-regulates the autophagy. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) showed that the number of containing fragmented DNA at the blastocyst stage increased in the 3-MA treated group compared with control ($6.0{\pm}1.0$ vs $3.3{\pm}0.6$, p<0.05). Also, the expression of the pro-apoptotic gene Bax increased in 3-MA treated group, whereas expression of the anti-apoptotic gene Bcl-XL decreased. Mito Tracker Green FM staining showed that blastocysts derived from the 3-MA treated group had lower mitochondrial integrity than that of the untreated control, resulting in decrease the embryonic qualities of preimplantation porcine blastocysts. Then, the expression of the spliced form of pXBP-1 product (pXBP-1s) increased in 3-MA treated group, resulting increase of ER-stress. Taken together, these results indicate that inhibition of autophagy by 3-MA is closely associated with apoptosis and ER-stress during preimplantation periods of porcine embryos.
Objective : The purpose of this study is to find out the proper dosage of Ma-huang for clinical use of Shanghanlun(傷寒論) Methods : To achive the purpose of this study, web-databases(pubmed, naver, google) were searched with the keywords including 'dose of Ma-huang Ephedra Ephedrine','dosage of Ma-huang Ephedra Ephedrine', and 'water extract of Ma-huang Ephedra'. Muberry (Morus alba L.) leaves fermented with Hericium erinaceum mycelium (MA-HE) were assessed for the protection against oxidative modification of antioxidant enzymes, Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase(SOD) and ceruloplasmin(CP). MA-HE were shown to significantly inhibited oxidative modifications and inactivations of Cu,Zn-SOD and CP induced by peroxyl radical. Antioxidant activity of MA-HE evaluated using peroxyl radical scavenging assays. MA-HE showed 44.03% of peroxyl radical scavenging activity at $100{\mu}g/mL$. Thus, MA-HE protect the antioxidant enzymes from oxidative damage by the scavenging peroxyl radicals. The results suggested that MA-HE was effectively removed reactive oxygen species in cells, thereby protecting cytotoxicity caused by oxidative stress.
