3차원 원시모델을 이용한 태풍통과시 일본 북부 연안역에서 발생한 연안용승 연구 (A Three-Dimensional Numerical Study of Coastal Upwelling in the Northern Japanese Coastal Region with the Passage of Typhoon Oliwa)

  • A three-dimensional numerical model (POM) is implemented to examine coastal upwelling in the northern Japanese coastal region with the passage of Typhoon Oliwa in September 1997. Observed sea surface temperature (SST) decreased suddenly ranging from $-6\;to\;-7^{\circ}C$ in the coastal regions, and such a SST decrease state lasted for more than ten days after the typhoon passed. The model successfully reproduces the observation and gives a clear explanation, the sudden decrease of SST occurred in the process of coastal upwelling with Ekman dynamics. The model also describes the sea surface cooling in the open ocean with vertical velocity.

  • Three dimensional numerical analysis for the turbulent reactive flow and radiative heat transfer in the walking beam type of a reheat furnace in POSCO has been carried out by the industrial code FLUENT. Computations an based on the conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and species with the $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and mixture fraction/PDF(Probability Density Function) approach for the combustion rate. Radiative heat transfer is computed by the discrete ordinates radiation model in combination with the weighted-sum-of-gray-gas model for the absorption coefficient of gas medium. The predicted temperture distribution in the reheat furnace and energy flow fractions are in reasonable agreement with the measurement data.

  • In the present, The theoretical and numerical results of gas flow characteristics inside a swirl injector are presented. For this purpose a one-dimensional (theoretical) model and 2D/3D CFD models are proposed for use in the design of the injector. It was found that contradictory to the classical theory about the compressible flow, the swirl has a significant effect on the mass flow rate and the choking conditions. It was found that the one-dimensional model provides reasonably accurate results compared with the 2D/3D numerical results, and thus can be used at the initial stage of the swirl-injector design process.

Proposed in this study are one-dimensional (theoretical) model and 2D/3D CFD models for use in the design of the injector. It was found that contrary to the classical theory about the compressible flow, the swirl gives a significant effect on the mass flow rate and the choking conditions.   • Flow characteristics and contamination behavior in a three-dimensional room with the desk-type obstacle have been investigated numerically by the k-${\varepsilon}$ two equation turbulence model. The room model has one supply opening on the ceiling and two exhaust openings on the side walls. Thirty six sets of calculation have been performed for twelve contamination sources of $1{\times}10^{-4}kg_c/(m^3{\cdot}s)$ strength at different inlet velocities(0.1, 1, 10m/s). This study can conclude that the source points of contaminant are located near the obstacle edge of Z-axis, at which the maximum contaminant diffusion fields are occured.

  • The asymptotic solution using the Tailor series has been given explicit form for the solute concentration and overall solute removal in hemodiafilter using one dimensional model. The numerical solutions have been calculated within 0.001% error by the Romberg integration method. Compared with the numerical solutions, the oneterm asymptotic solutions were found to be within 3% error for the condition > 3.0 and three-terms asymtotic solutions were required for the condition >0.7 where denotes measure of convection over diffusional transport and a the ratio of blood flow rate over dialysate flow rate.

  • We parallelized the CFD_NIMR model, which is a numerical meteorological model, for best performance on both of distributed and shared memory parallel computers. This hybrid parallelization uses MPI (Message Passing Interface) to apply horizontal 2-dimensional sub-domain out of the 3-dimensional computing domain for distributed memory system, as well as uses OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing) to apply vertical 1-dimensional sub-domain for utilizing advantage of shared memory structure. We validated the parallel model with the original sequential model, and the parallel CFD_NIMR model shows efficient speedup on the distributed and shared memory system.

Experimental study and numerical investigation of behavior of RC beams strengthened with steel reinforced grout

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the behavior and the strength of SRG (Steel Reinforced Grout) externally strengthened Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams by using a nonlinear numerical analysis. The numerical simulation was carried out by using a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model. An interface element with a suitable damage model was used to model the connection between concrete surface and SRG reinforcing layer. The reliability of the finite element 3D-model was checked using experimental data obtained on a set of three RC beams. The parameters taken into consideration were the external configuration, with or without U-end anchorages, the concrete strength, the amount of internal tensile steel reinforcement. Conclusions were made concerning the strength and the ductility of the strengthened beams by varying the parameters and on the effectiveness of the SRG reinforcing system applied with two types of external strengthening configuration.

  • 최근 하천복원 사업은 과거 인공적인 부분을 개선하는 범위를 벗어나 격리차단된 구하도까지 복원하는 수준에 이르렀다. 구하도 복원은 하천 제방과 같은 종적 구조물에 의해 차단된 공간의 수리적 연결성 회복이 중요하다. 그러나 하천복원이 적절히 수행되었는지 관한 평가방법이 부족한 상황이기에 본 연구에서는 대상하천에서의 생태적 연결성 평가를 위한 수단을 제공하고자 한다. 이 연구에서 강우에 의한 유역유출 및 하도흐름 해석이 동시에 가능한 1차원 수치모형을 개발하여 청미천 유역에 적용한 바 있다. 특히 이 연구에서 1차원의 홍수추적 결과를 2차원의 공간분포로 변환시키고 시간에 따른 2차원의 수리특성으로부터 서식처적합도까지 산출하여 연결성 회복정도를 평가하는 수치모형을 개발하였으며, 이를 청미천 구하도 복원지역에 적용하였다. 복잡할 뿐만아니라 시간도 많이 소요되는 2차원의 분석을 수행하지 않고서도 1차원 수리특성 결과를 확장해서 2차원 수리특성을 쉽게 구할 수 있도록 한 것이 본 연구의 특징이다. 본 연구의 결과를 이용하면 구간별 대상종별 서식처적합도를 용이하게 산정할 수 있다.

  • Substantial losses behind axial flow rotor are generated by the wake, various vortices in the hub region and the tip leakage vortex in the tip region. Particularly, the leakage vortex formed near blade tip is one of the main causes of the reduction of performance, generation of noise and aerodynamic vibration in downstream. In this study, the three-dimensional flow fields in an axial flow rotor were calculated with varying tip clearance under various flow rates, and the numerical results were compared with experimental ones. The numerical technique was based on SIMPLE algorithm using standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model(WFM) and Launder & Sharma's Low Reynolds Number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model(LRN). Through calculations, the effects of tip clearance and attack angle on the 3-dimensional flow fileds behind a rotor and leakage flow/vortex were investigated. The presence of tip leakage vortex, loci of vortex center and its behavior behind the rotor for various tip clearances and attack angles was described well by calculation.
