  • Optimal designs of a 3-point and a 4-point engine mount system are presented for reducing the idle shake of a Front Wheel Drive(FWD) vehicle. Design variables used in this study are the locations, the angles and the stiffness of an engine mount system. The goal of the optimization is minimizing the transmitted force without violating the constraints such as static weight sag, resonant frequency and side limits of design variables. The Augmented Lagrange Multiplier(ALM) Method is used for solving the nonlinear constrained optimization. The generalized Jacobi and the impedence method are employed for a free vibration analysis and a forced response analysis. The trend of analysis results well meet that of the experimental results. The optimization results reveal that the 4-point system transmits less torque than the 3-point system. It is also found from the design sensitivity analysis that the vibration characteristics of the 4-point system is less sensitive than those of the 3-point system.

  • In this paper, size dependent bending and free flexural vibration behaviors of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams are investigated using a nonlocal quasi-3D theory in which both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects are introduced. The nonlocal elastic behavior is described by the differential constitutive model of Eringen, which enables the present model to become effective in the analysis and design of nanostructures. The present theory incorporates the length scale parameter (nonlocal parameter) which can capture the small scale effect, and furthermore accounts for both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects by virtue of a hyperbolic variation of all displacements through the thickness without using shear correction factor. The material properties of FG nanobeams are assumed to vary through the thickness according to a power law. The neutral surface position for such FG nanobeams is determined and the present theory based on exact neutral surface position is employed here. The governing equations are derived using the principal of minimum total potential energy. The effects of nonlocal parameter, aspect ratio and various material compositions on the static and dynamic responses of the FG nanobeam are discussed in detail. A detailed numerical study is carried out to examine the effect of material gradient index, the nonlocal parameter, the beam aspect ratio on the global response of the FG nanobeam. These findings are important in mechanical design considerations of devices that use carbon nanotubes.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the bending, buckling and free vibration of functionally graded sandwich beams resting on elastic foundation by using a refined quasi-3D theory in which both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects are included. The displacement field contains only three unknowns, which is less than the number of parameters of many other shear deformation theories. In order to homogenize the micromechanical properties of the FGM sandwich beam, the material properties are derived on the basis of several micromechanical models such as Tamura, Voigt, Reuss and many others. The principle of virtual works is used to obtain the equilibrium equations. The elastic foundation is modeled using the Pasternak mathematical model. The governing equations are obtained through the Hamilton's principle and then are solved via Navier solution for the simply supported beam. The accuracy of the proposed theory can be noticed by comparing it with other 3D solution available in the literature. A detailed parametric study is presented to show the influence of the micromechanical models on the general behavior of FG sandwich beams on elastic foundation.

  • A free vibration analysis and wave propagation of triclinic and orthotropic plate has been presented in this work using an efficient quasi 3D shear deformation theory. The novelty of this paper is to introducing this theory to minimize the number of unknowns which is three; instead four in other researches, to studying bulk waves in anisotropic plates, other than it can model plates with great thickness ratio, also. Another advantage of this theory is to permits us to show the effect of both bending and shear components and this is carried out by dividing the transverse displacement into the bending and shear parts. Hamilton's equations are a very potent formulation of the equations of analytic mechanics; it is used for the development of wave propagation equations in the anisotropic plates. The analytical dispersion relationship of this type of plate is obtained by solving an eigenvalue problem. The accuracy of the present model is verified by confronting our results with those available in open literature for anisotropic plates. Moreover Numerical examples are given to show the effects of wave number and thickness on free vibration and wave propagation in anisotropic plates.

  • This paper employs differential quadrature method (DQM) and nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) for studying free vibrational characteristics of porous functionally graded (FG) nanoplates coupled by visco-elastic foundation. A secant function based refined plate theory is used for mathematical modeling of the nano-size plate. Two scale factors are included in the formulation for describing size influences based on NSGT. The material properties for FG plate are porosity-dependent and defined employing a modified power-law form. Visco-elastic foundation is presented based on three factors including a viscous layer and two elastic layers. The governing equations achieved by Hamilton's principle are solved implementing DQM. The nanoplate vibration is shown to be affected by porosity, temperature rise, scale factors and viscous damping.

  • A fluid-structure-isolator interaction program was developed in this study. The behavior of liquid regions are simulated by the boundary element method, and then the technique of analyzing the free surface motion in time domain is developed by using the nonlinear free surface boundary condition(NFBC) and the condition of interface between the structure and the fluid. Structure regions are modeled by the finite element method. In order to construct the governing equation of the fluid structure interaction(FSI)problem in time domain, the finite elements for a structure and boundary elements for liquid are coupled using the equilibrium condition, the compatibility condition and NFBC. The isolator is simulated by equation proposedin 3D Basis Me. In order to verify the validity and the applicability of the developed fluid- structure -Isolator interaction program, The horizontal forced vibration analysis was performed. The applicability of the developed method is verified through the artificial seismic analysis of real size liquid storage tank.

  • In this work, quasi three-dimensional (quasi-3D) shear deformation theory is presented for bending and dynamic analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates. The effect of varying material properties and volume fraction of the constituent on dynamic and bending behavior of the FG plate is discussed. The benefit of this model over other contributions is that a number of variables is diminished. The developed model considers nonlinear displacements through the thickness and ensures the free boundary conditions at top and bottom faces of the plate without using any shear correction factors. The basic equations that account for the effects of transverse and normal shear stresses are derived from Hamilton's principle. The analytical solutions are determined via the Navier procedure. The accuracy of the proposed formulation is proved by comparisons with the different 2D, 3D and quasi-3D solutions found in the literature.

  • KSR-III(Korea Sounding Rocket - III), which is being developed by Space Technology R&D Division of KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) will be launched in late 2002. It is a three-stage, liquid propellant rocket which can reach 250 km altitude and will carry out observation of ozone layer and scientific experiments, such as microgravity experiment, and atmospheric measurement. KSR-III is believed to be an intermediate to the launch vehicle capable of carrying a satellite to its orbit. Space Test Department of KARI performed GVT(Ground Vibration Test) fer KSR-III EM at Rocket Test Building of KARI. GVT is very important for predicting the behavior of rocket in its operation, developing flight control program and performing aerodynamic analysis. This paper gives an introduction of rocket GVT configuration and information on test procedures, techniques and results of It. In this test. to simulate free-free condition, test object hung in the air laterally by 4 bungee cords specially devised. For the excitation of test object, pure random signal by two electromagnetic shakers was used and total 22 frequency response functions were achieved. Polyreference parameter estimation was performed to identify the modal parameters with MIMO(Multi-Input-Multi-Output) method. As the result of the test, low frequency mode shapes and modal parameters below 60Hz were identified
