A Study of the Optimal Displacement Analysis Algorithm for Retaining Wall Displacement Measurement System Based on 2D LiDAR Sensor (2D LiDAR 센서 기반 흙막이 벽체 변위 계측 시스템의 최적 변위 분석 알고리즘 연구)

  • Inclinometer has several problems of 1)difficulty installing inclinometer casing, 2) measuring 2D local lateral displacement of retaining wall, 3) measurement by manpower. To solve such problems, a 2D LiDAR sensor-based retaining wall displacement measurement system was developed in previous studies. The purpose of this study is to select a displacement analysis algorithm to be applied in the retaining wall displacement measurement system. As a result of the displacement analysis algorithm selection, the M3C2 (Multiple Model to Model Cloud Comparison) algorithm with a displacement estimation error of 2mm was selected as the displacement analysis algorithm. If the M3C2 algorithm is applied in the system and the reliability of the displacement analysis result is secured through several field experiments. Convenient management of the displacement for the retaining wall is possible in comparison with the current measurement management.

  • Most domestic fossil power plant have exceeded 100,000 hours of operation with the severe operating condition. Among the critical components of fossil power plant, high temperature steam pipe system have had a many problems and damage from unstable displacement behavior because of frequent start up and shut down. In order to prevent the serious damage and failure of the critical pipe system in fossil power plant, 3-dimensional displacement measurement system were developed for the on-line monitoring system. 3-D Measurement system was developed with using the LVDT type sensor and rotary encoder type sensor, this system was installed and operated on the real power plant successfully. In the future time, network system of on-line diagnosis for critical pipe will be designed.

The Development of 3D based On-Machine Measurement Operating System (3D 기반의 기상측정 운영시스템 개발)

  • This paper proposed efficient manufacturing system using the OMM (on-machine measurement) system. The OMM system is software based 3D modeler for inspection on machine and it is interfaced tool machine with RS232C. The software is composed of two inspection modules that one is touch probe operating module and the other is laser displacement sensor operating module. The module for touch probe has need of inspection feature that extracted it from CAD data. Touch probe moves to workpiece by three operating modes as follows: manual, general and automatic mode. The operating module of laser displacement sensor is used inspection for profile and very small hole. An Advantage of this inspection method is to be able to execute on-line inspection during machining or after it. The efficiency of proposed system which can predict and definite the machining errors of each process is verified, so the developed system is applied to inspect the mold-base(cavity, core).

  • The 3D absolute displacement monitoring system has been developed to analyze the tunnel convergence measured under construction of underground structures and to manage effectively the measured data. The system is comprised of the total station, the anchor-typed target pin and the 3D absolute displacement measurement and management program. In this paper, the types and specifications of the 3D total station were presented. The anchor-typed target pin, an improved model of traditional one, was developed and its sightable distance and measurement accuracy were checked by field tests. Also a 3D absolute displacement measurement and management program, TEMS 3D, was developed to provide some analysis tools including the trend and influence lines. L/C ratio, S/C ratio and the like. The developed system was applied the construction stage of a railway tunnel for testing purpose. It is verified that the developed system is capable of predicting weak zones ahead of tunnel face by comparing with results of TSP (Tunnel Seismic Prediction) survey.

  • In this study, a 3D coordinate measurement system equipped with a laser displacement meter for digitizing rock joint surface was established and the digitized data were used to calculate several roughness parameters. The parameters used in this study were micro avenge inclination $angle(i_{ave})$, average slope of joint $asperity(SL_{ ave})$, root mean square of $i-angle(i_{rms})$, standard deviation of height(SDH), standard deviation of $i-angle(SD_i)$, roughness profile $index(R_P)$, and fractal dimension(D). The relationships between the roughness parameters based on the digitzation of the surface profile were analyzed. Since the measured value varied according to the degree of reflection and the variation of colors at the measuring point, rock joint surface was painted in white to minimize the influence of the surface conditions. The comparison of the measured values and roughness parameters before and after painting revealed the better consequence from measurement on the painted surfaces. Also, effect of measuring interval was studied. As measured interval was increased, roughness parameters were exponentially decreased. The incremental sequence of degree of decrease was $SDH\; i_{ave},\; i_{rms},\; SD_i,\;and\; R_ p-1$. As a result of comparison of parameters from pin-type measurement system and laser type measurement system, all value of parameters were higher when laser-type measurement system was used, except SDH.

Study on the Thermal Deformation of the Air-conditioner Indoor Unit Assembly Using 3D Measurement and Finite Element Analysis (에어컨 실내기 사출 조립품의 열 변형 3D측정과 유한요소해석)

  • Thermal deformation, such as bending and twisting, occurs among the polymer parts of air-conditioner indoor units because of repetitive temperature change during heating operation. In this study, a numerical method employing finite-element analysis to efficiently simulate the thermal deformation of an assembly is proposed. Firstly, the displacement of an actual assembly produced by thermal deformation was measured using a 3D optical measurement system. The measurement results indicated a general downward sag of the assembly, and the maximum displacement value was approximately 1 mm. The temperature distribution was measured using a thermographic camera, and the results were used as initial-temperature boundary conditions to perform temperature-displacement analysis. The simulation results agreed well with the measured data. To reduce the thermal deformation, the stiffness increased 100%. As the results, the maximum displacement decreased by approximately 5.4% and the twisting deformation of the holder improved significantly.

  • Among the sensors mainly used for displacement measurement, there are a linear CCD(Charge Coupled Device) and a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) as a non-contact type. Their structures are different very much, which means that the signal processing of both sensors should be applied in the different ways. Most of the displacement measurement systems to get the 3-D shape profile of an object using a linear CCD are a computer-based system. It means that all of algorithms and mathematical operations are performed through a computer program to measure the displacement. However, in this paper, the developed system has microprocessor and other digital components that make the system measure the displacement of an object without a computer. The thing different from the previous system is that AVR microprocessor and FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) technology, and a comparator is used to play the role of an A/D(Analog to Digital) converter. Furthermore, an ATC(Automatic Threshold Control) algorithm is applied to find the highest pixel data that has the real displacement information. According to the size of the light circle incident on the surface of the CCD, the threshold value to remove the noise and useless data is changed by the operation of AVR microprocessor. The total system consists of FPGA, AVR microprocessor, and the comparator. The developed system has the improvement and shows the better performance than the system not using the ATC algorithm for displacement measurement.

  • Dynamic displacement of structures is an important index for in-service structural condition and behavior assessment, but accurate measurement of structural displacement for large-scale civil structures such as long-span bridges still remains as a challenging task. In this paper, a vision-based dynamic displacement measurement system with the use of digital image processing technology is developed, which is featured by its distinctive characteristics in non-contact, long-distance, and high-precision structural displacement measurement. The hardware of this system is mainly composed of a high-resolution industrial CCD (charge-coupled-device) digital camera and an extended-range zoom lens. Through continuously tracing and identifying a target on the structure, the structural displacement is derived through cross-correlation analysis between the predefined pattern and the captured digital images with the aid of a pattern matching algorithm. To validate the developed system, MTS tests of sinusoidal motions under different vibration frequencies and amplitudes and shaking table tests with different excitations (the El-Centro earthquake wave and a sinusoidal motion) are carried out. Additionally, in-situ verification experiments are performed to measure the mid-span vertical displacement of the suspension Tsing Ma Bridge in the operational condition and the cable-stayed Stonecutters Bridge during loading tests. The obtained results show that the developed system exhibits an excellent capability in real-time measurement of structural displacement and can serve as a good complement to the traditional sensors.
