The flow around a foil with waterjet was investigated using the two-frame PIV(CACTUS 3.1) system. After separation, unsteady recirculation & reattachment region was shown as a result at reading edge. Separation area was decreased to 1/3 more by waterjet system with coanda effect. Angle of attack and waterjet velocity was a variable in the experiment. Each parameters was controlled to $0^{\circ}{\sim}35^{\circ}$ and 0[m/s]${\sim}$9.2[m/s]. The separation of flow appearanced at first when the angle of attack is $17^{\circ}{\sim}18^{\circ}$. However, according to grew up of velocity, beginning of the separation was delayed. In this experiment, vortex and separation region was disappeared by blown when each parameters are low level, and separation controlled more certainly.

A new Stereoscopic PTV was developed using two CCD cameras, stereoscopic photogrammetry based on a 3D-PTV principle. Virtual images were produced for the benchmark test of the constructed Stereoscopic PTV technique. The arrangement of the two cameras was based on angular position. The calibration of cameras and the pair-matching of the three-dimensional velocity vectors were based on the Genetic Algorithm based 3D-PTV technique. The constructed Stereoscopic PTV technique was tested on the standard images of the impinged jet proposed by VSJ. The results obtained by the constructed system showed good agreements with the original data.

There are cofferdam and watertight wall to prevent of circulation or pollution during building of ocean structures like a dam and bridge in the harbors area and the sea. Inflow fluid and base of structure is important thing as one of the structural design factors for this interception wall like a cofferdam and watertight wall. In this study, it is revealed that at least 500 instantaneous velocity field data are required for ensemble average to get reliable turbulence statistics. The turbulent shear flow around a surface-mounted vertical wall was investigated by using the two-frame PIV(CACTUS 3.1) system and Mean velocity distributions have also been measured in the whole flow field.
The phase-averaged velocity fields of 3 dimensional turbulent wake behind a marine propeller measured by 2D PIV and stereoscopic PIV(SPIV) were compared directly. In-plane velocity fields obtained from the consecutive particle images captured by one camera in 2D PIV have perspective errors due to out-of-plane motion. However, the perspective errors can be removed by measuring three component velocity fields using SPIV method with two cameras. It is also necessary to measure three components velocity fields for the investigation of complicated near-wake behind the propeller for the suitable propeller design. 400 instantaneous velocity fields were measured for each of four different blade phases of $0^{\circ},\;18^{\circ},\;36^{\circ}C\;and\;54^{\circ}$. They were ensemble averaged to investigate the spatial evolution of the propeller wake in the downstream region. The phase-averaged velocity fields show the viscous wake developed along the blade surfaces and tip vortices were formed periodically. The perspective errors caused by the out-of-plane motion was estimated by the comparison of 2D PIV and SPIV results. The difference in the axial mean velocity fields measured by both techniques are nearly proportional to the mean out-of-plane velocity component which has large values in the regions of the tip and trailing vortices. The axial turbulence intensity measured by 2D PIV was overestimated since the out-of-plane velocity fluctuations influence the in-plane velocity vectors and increase the in-plane turbulence intensities.
The three-dimensional spatial structures of impeller flow created by a six bladed Rushton turbine have identified based on the volumetric velocity information from multi-plane stereoscopic PIV measurements. A total of 10 planes with 2 mm space with a 50 mm by 64 mm size of the field of view were targeted. To reduce the depth of focus, we adopted an angle offset configuration which satisfied the Scheimpflug condition. The distortion compensation procedure was utilized during the in situ calibration. Phase-locked instantaneous data were ensemble averaged and interpolated in order to obtain mean 3-D, volumetric velocity fields on a 60 degree sector of a cylindrical ring volume enclosing the turbine blade. Using the equi-vorticity surface rendering, the spatial structure of the trailing vortices was clearly demonstrated. Detail flow characteristics of the radial jet reported in previous studies of mixer flows were easily identified.

A flow field in a passage with periodically converging-diverging cross-section is investigated experimentally by PIV measurement. A tube with a sinusoidally wavy cross section is one of several devices employed for enhancing the heat and mass transfer efficiency due to turbulence promotion and unsteady vortical motion. While the numerical flow visualization results have been limited to the fully developed cases, existing experimental results of this flow were simple qualitative ones by smoke or dye streak test. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to produce quantitative flow data for fully developed and transient flow regime by the Correlation Based Correction PIV (CBC PIV) and to conjecture the analogy between flow characteristics and heat transfer enhancement with low pumping power. Another purpose of this paper is to examine the onset position of the transition and the global mixing, which results in transfer enhancement. At Re=2000, evidences of the global mixing are captured at 2.5 wavy module through the variation of RMS values and instantaneous velocity plot.
This experiment has been carried out to find the structure of turbulent boundary layer with instantaneous velocity fields obtained in stream-wall-normal planes using a stereo-PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) method. And it has been measured perpendicular plane and horizontal plane with hairpin vortex structure by Reynolds number change and made third dimension shape for section of horizontal plane through stereo-PIV. In the outer layer hairpin vortices occur in streamwise-aligned packets that propagate with small velocity dispersion. A streaky structure is composed of counter-rotating vortex. According as y+ increases, streaky structure's interval space decrease, and it shows that hairpin shape of prior research is vertified. The objective of the present research is to gain a better understanding of coherent structures in the outer of wall turbulence by experimentally examining coherent structures.
Flow rate measurement is one of the difficult problems in the industrial applications. Especially, flow rate in a partially filled pipeline is affected by many parameters such as water level, channel slop, etc. In the present study, prior to the development of a flowmeter, the flow characteristics has been investigated by particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements. Three-dimensional velocity distributions were obtained from sectional measurements of velocity profiles according to the water level. As a result, it is found that there is no similarity in the velocity profile when the lateral position is changed. In addition, the maximum velocity does not always occur on the free surface. It depends on the water level. In the aspect of flow rate measurement, the previous calculus based upon point measurement techniques is proved to be inaccurate because of the lack of whole flow information.
