Visualization of three-dimensional data with virtual reality (가상현실을 이용한 3차원 데이터 시각화)

  • Various data visualization methods are utilized to analyze a huge amount of data. Among various methods, a three-dimensional image requires the rotation of the image to show a stereo image on a two-dimensional screen. This study discusses two methods of batch method and real-time method, which make it possible to construct of stereo images to improve the restriction of the three-dimensional image display with virtual reality. This investigation can be useful to better explore a three-dimensional data structure.

  • 전자문화지도는 지도를 인터페이스로 문화와 관련된 정보를 디지털화시켜 나타내는 시스템이며 공간데이터와 문화정보의 연계를 통해 다양한 정보를 제공한다. 이는 문화와 관련된 정보를 시 공간데이터와의 조합을 통해 유기적으로 연계된 형태의 정보를 효율적으로 검색할 수 있다. 기존의 전자문화지도는 2차원 지도(베이스맵)에 점, 선, 면 데이터를 활용해 정보를 표현하는 방법이 대부분이다. 이는 3차원 공간을 2차원 평면으로 표현하기 때문에 지리적 왜곡, 입체감 결여 등의 문제점을 발생시킨다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 구글 어스에서 제공하는 3차원 형태의 지도서비스를 활용하여 전자문화지도를 설계한다. 전자문화지도는 문화(주제), 시간, 공간 데이터를 조합하여 검색이 가능하며 이는 지역연구의 방법으로 활용할 수 있다. 또한 3차원 지도를 활용해 시각적인 효과를 높임으로써 사용자의 사용성 및 이해도를 향상시킬 수 있다.

Automation of Building Extraction and Modeling Using Airborne LiDAR Data (항공 라이다 데이터를 이용한 건물 모델링의 자동화)

  • LiDAR has capability of rapid data acquisition and provides useful information for reconstructing surface of the Earth. However, Extracting information from LiDAR data is not easy task because LiDAR data consist of irregularly distributed point clouds of 3D coordinates and lack of semantic and visual information. This thesis proposed methods for automatic extraction of buildings and 3D detail modeling using airborne LiDAR data. As for preprocessing, noise and unnecessary data were removed by iterative surface fitting and then classification of ground and non-ground data was performed by analyzing histogram. Footprints of the buildings were extracted by tracing points on the building boundaries. The refined footprints were obtained by regularization based on the building hypothesis. The accuracy of building footprints were evaluated by comparing with 1:1,000 digital vector maps. The horizontal RMSE was 0.56m for test areas. Finally, a method of 3D modeling of roof superstructure was developed. Statistical and geometric information of the LiDAR data on building roof were analyzed to segment data and to determine roof shape. The superstructures on the roof were modeled by 3D analytical functions that were derived by least square method. The accuracy of the 3D modeling was estimated using simulation data. The RMSEs were 0.91m, 1.43m, 1.85m and 1.97m for flat, sloped, arch and dome shapes, respectively. The methods developed in study show that the automation of 3D building modeling process was effectively performed.

  • 실내 공간 용용기술의 핵심은 3차원 실내공간데이터의 모델링 기법과 이와 연동 가능한 센서기술이다. 하지만 아직은 실내위치기반서비스를 위한 측위기술 및 공간데이터에 대한 표준과 활용방안이 제한된 상태이다. 본 연구에서는 실내 위치기반서비스에서 사용 가능한 간단한 공간 DBMS 기반의 3차원 실내 공간 데이터 모델의 구축방법과 이를 활용할 수 있는 방법론을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 모델은 2차원 기반의 multi-layer 구조를 가지며, 2차원 및 3차원으로 가시화가 가능하도록 하였다. 또한 제시한 3차원 실내 공간 모델의 실내 기반 서비스로의 적용을 테스트하기 위하여 CA(Cellular Automata)기반의 대피 시뮬레이터와 대피 경로 안내 시스템 그리고 실내센서(카메라)와의 연동 등 몇 가지 응용분야에 대한 테스트를 수행하였다.

  • A lot of the data currently measured is measured based on indicators, but since the height value of the measurement point is not used as basic data, difficulties arise when trying to use it in a three-dimensional geographic information system. Various methods can be used to create polygons by drawing points on the surface using topographic information or extracting the height value of each measurement point on the surface in order to display large quantities on the surface. Among the various types of data expression methods, this study attempts a data construction and display method to improve visualization performance of time series measurement data expressed on the surface, and examines its procedures and strengths and weaknesses.

  • Rapid Prototyping (RP) is a technology that produces prototype parts from 3D computer aided design model data without intermediate processing technology rapidly. CAD model data are created from 3D object digitizing systems but presented just as 2D data when they are printed as a hard copy or displayed on a monitor. However, Rapid Prototyping Technology fabricates 3D objects the same that CAD data because it transforms designed 3D CAD data into 2D cross sectional data, and manufactures layer by layer deposition sequentially. But most of all the small and medium scale companies which produce a toothbrush, a toy and such like provisions are in difficult situations to buy RP system because it is very expensive. In this paper, we propose a 3D control system adopting open source programs for implementing Rapid Prototyping Technology in order that RP system can be purchase at a moderate price.

  • In the paper, we proposed a new system to retrieve 3D wrinkle data based on stereo images. Usually, 3D reconstruction based on stereo images or video is very popular and it is the research focus, which has been applied for culture heritage, building and other scene. The target is object measurement, the scene depth calculation and 3D data obtained. There are several challenges in our research. First, it is hard to take the full information wrinkle images by cameras because of light influence, skin with non-rigid object and camera performance. We design a particular computer vision system to take winkle images with a long length camera lens. Second, it is difficult to get the dense stereo data because of the hard skin texture image segmentation and corner detection. We focus on semi-dense stereo matching algorithm for the wrinkle depth. Compared with the 3D scanner, our system is much cheaper and compared with the physical modeling based method, our system is more flexible with high performance.

  • This study aims to design a tunnel part model for underpass and subway lines that correspond to tunnel sector among the underground facilities(structure types) covered in the integrated map of underground spaces. For this purpose, we compared and reviewed the characteristics of international standards related to tunnel data models. As a result, it was found that CityGML 3.0 - Tunnel module was the most suitable for designing a 3D tunnel data model. Afterwards we reviewed the legal and institutional regulations to derive the standard elements of the 3D tunnel data model. Then we conducted a demand survey targeting experts in related fields to derive standard elements for addition and extension of underpasses and subway lines. Based on the above process, we designed and presented a 3D tunnel data model using UML. This study is expected to be meaningful as a basic study to improve the utilization of tunnel model in the integrated map of underground spaces.

3D Object Modeling for Laser Radar Simulation (레이저레이더 시뮬레이션을 위한 3차원 객체 모델링)

  • The improvement of the performance in laser radar simulation requires fast retrievals of the spatial locations and attributes of objects in response to the laser signals of the simulators. Since the data used in simulation are complex 3D objects such as terrain, buildings and vehicles, and are of large sizes, commonly used 3D modeling tools are not suitable for this use. We proposed a method to store such 3D objects in a database, perform required queries and integrate with visualization tools. We showed the processes for the data modeling based on 3D topological concepts and then building a spatial DBMS. Also, we illustrated the process for accessing and visualizing the stored data using VRML and performed test computations using some laser signal data. With further enhancement on data modeling and LOD problems in visualization, the proposed method will be practically applied in different situations including laser simulation.
