In this paper, to verify the field application of a displacement estimation technique based on the relationship between displacement and strain, static and dynamic field load test are performed on three-span continuous real bridge structures. The superstructure types of the test bridges are IPC girder highway bridge and steel box girder AGT bridge. LVDTs and strain gauges are attached to them; then, the responses due to test vehicle are measured. To obtain the displacement-strain relationship of the test bridges, the bridges are modeled as grillage system with 6 DOFs for the purpose of structural analyses. Static and dynamic displacements, which are estimated using both the calculated displacement-strain relationship and the measured strain signal, agree well with the values measured by LVDT. This study demonstrates that the displacement estimation technique using the strain signal can be effectively applied to the displacement measurement of bridge structures that cross rivers/roads/railways or have high clearance.
The behavior of steel curved bridges is more complicated than straight bridges, thus the analysis, design and construction process of curved bridges require much more attention. In design of curved bridges, the grillage analysis using general structural analysis program or special program is mainly used. Comparative study in coherence between these analytical results and actual behavior of curved bridges has been rarely conducted. To study the behaviour of curved bridges and verify the current design method, field measurements and analyses using general structural analysis program and 3-D refined analysis program were carried out for simple and continuous bridges in this study. The study focused on the behavior of curved steel bridges during construction. Measured and analytical results had quantitative difference mutually, but there were qualitatively similar. Stress variations in transverse direction of flange were observed and grillage analysis models yielded more conservative values than 3-D refined analysis models.
A method to calculate maximum dynamic deflection, which is close to the measured deflection, was proposed by comparing the real deflection with the claculated one in three span continuous highway steel bridge. From this, the pattern of variation of impact factors depending an vehicle speeds and weights was studied in simple and continuous bridges. From the numerical analysis, it was known that the maximum dynamic deflection which is close to the measured one could be obtained by using the transformed flexural rigidity of a bridge, and the factors are generally increased with increasing vehicle speed. However, it was thought that there are some problems in the code specification about the impact factors of the continuous bridges.
The general behavior of the curved girder including the warping effects can be presented as the series of differential equations developed by Vlasov. Generally, bending moment is the most important factor for engineer to decide the section of the girder. In order to accommodate easiness of the structural analysis for the curved girder bridge, this paper suggest the ratios of bending moment of curved gilder to that of straight girder. These ratios are presented by an approximate formula setting central angle ${\theta}(L/R)$ as a variable. The approximate formula of the maximum bending moment ratios and influence lines of all stress resultants can be used to design the three-span curved girder bridges.

A dynamic analysis procedure is developed to provide a better estimation of the dynamic responses of bridge during the passage of high speed railway vehicles. Particularly, a three dimensional numerical model including the structural interaction between high speed vehicles, bridges and railway endures to analyse accurately and evaluate with in-depth parametric studies for dynamic responses of various bridge span lengths running KTX railway locomotive up to increasing maximum speed(450km/h). Three dimensional frame element is used to model the simply supported pre-stressed concrete (PSC) box bridges for four span lengths(40~25m). Track irregularity employed as a stationary random process from the given spectral density functions and irregularities of both sides of the track are assumed to have high correlation. The high-speed railway vehicle (KTX) is used as 38-degree of freedom system. Three displacements (Vertical, lateral, and longitudinal) as well as three rotational components (Pitching, rolling, and yawing) are considered in the 38-degree of freedom model. The dynamic amplification factors are evaluated by the developed procedure under various traveling conditions, such as track irregularity camber, train speed and ballast. The dynamic analysis such as Newmark-${\beta}$ and Runge-Kutta methods which are able to analyse considering the dynamic impact factors are compared and contrasted.

The cables in cable-stayed bridges are under high stress and are very sensitive to vibration due to their small section areas compared with other members. Therefore, it is reasonable to evaluate the cable impact factor by taking into account the dynamic effect due to moving-vehicle motion. In this study, the cable impact factors were evaluated via moving-vehicle-load analysis, considering the design parameters, i.e., vehicle weight, cable model, road surface roughness, vehicle speed, longitudinal distance between vehicles. For this purpose, two steel composite cable-stayed bridges with 230- and 540-m main spans were selected. The results of the analysis were then compared with those of the influence line method that is currently being used in design practice. The road surface roughness was randomly generated based on ISO 8608, and the convergence of impact factors according to the number of generated road surfaces was evaluated to improve the reliability of the results. A9-d.o.f. tractor-trailer vehicle was used, and the vehicle motion was derived from Lagrange's equation. 3D finite element models for the selected cable-stayed bridges were constructed with truss elements having equivalent moduli for the cables, and with beam elements for the girders and the pylons. The direct integration method was used for the analysis of the bridge-vehicle interaction, and the analysis was conducted iteratively until the displacement error rate of the bridge was within the specified tolerance. It was acknowledged that the influence line method, which cannot consider the dynamic effect due to moving-vehicle motion, could underestimate the impact factors of the end-cables at the side spans, unlike moving-vehicle-load analysis.

Cross sections of steel-plate girder bridges are divided into three cross sections of non-composite, partially composite, and fully composite sections, according to their composite characteristics. The Korean provision for the partially and fully composite sections specifies general usage of the stud of shear connectors, whereas the one for the non-composite section specifies empirical usage of slab anchors. However, the actual behavior of the cross sections of steel-plate girder bridges using slab anchors is close not to the non-composite action, but to the partially composite action. Therefore analytical and experimental studies on partial composites of steel-plate girder bridges using slab anchors are performed in this study. Intial stiffness of the slab anchor is obtained by the experimental study for the first time, and the composite characteristic of simple-span and two-span continuous steel-plate girder bridges is investigated by the finite element analyses for the second time. Based on the obtained initial stiffness, the reduction effect of tensile stresses in the concrete-slab on the intermediate support of the continuous bridge is also considered herein.

Recently, the construction of curved bridge has increased, thus researchers perform the analytic studies on PSC curved bridge. However, the grid analysis method that are mostly used in the construction industry is not adequate to acquire the precise behavior evaluation of curved PSC briges. Therefore, the precise finite element analysis considering the effective variables were performed to establish the basis for the design method of curved PSC bridge by using 3D elements and bar element. The evaluated variables in this analysis were the number of girders, loading point, section figure, change of prestressing force. The results show the load carrying capacity of the 3 girder type bridge is 200% of that of the 2 girder type, and that applying load on outer girder makes the load resistance capacity and the deflection deviation of 2 girders smaller. The structural capacity of the bridge is improved when the section size is increased, but the efficiency of it is not sufficient enough compare to that of the change of prestressing forces. The change of prestressing forces shows that the camber and the load carrying capacity are linearly increased as PS force is increased. Moreover, when the PS force applied on outer girder is increased than that of inner girder, the deviation of deflection the girders decreases, thereby the stability of the bridge is enhanced.

The composite two plate-girder bridges are generally defined as a non-redundant load path structure because the bridge can collapse if one of the two girders is seriously damaged by a fatigue crack. In this paper, a numerical study on the evaluation of the after-fracture redundancy of the composite two-girder bridges was accomplished. The evaluation has been performed on the simple and three-span continuous bridges with I-section cross beams which serve as transverse bracing, and with or without the bottom lateral bracing system. The load carrying capacities of the intact and damaged bridges with or without lateral bracing were evaluated from material and geometric nonlinear analysis, respectively and the redundancy was evaluated for each case. It was acknowledged from the analytical results that both simple and continuous intact two-girder bridges have sufficient redundancy even without lateral bracing, but it takes an important role to improve the redundancy of damaged bridges.
This study applied elastic supports in order to evaluate load carrying capacity using measurement data obtained from load tests actively and utilizing various evaluation methods. In order to confirm the adequacy of structural analysis based on elastic supports and to improve the reliability of experiment results, we conducted a deflection test with flexural beams prepared as overhanging beams and, based on the results, performed precision safety diagnosis for real bridges under public service for improving the load carrying capacity evaluation method for bridges under public service. In the results of the bending test, compared to deflection calculated by the existing method, deflection obtained by applying elastic supports was closer to the actually measured deflection. In the results of evaluating load carrying capacity for a 3 span continuous steel box girder bridge just after its completion, load carrying capacity by elastic supports was smaller by up to 39% than that by the existing method. When the load carrying capacity of bridges is evaluated by the existing method the results vary among engineers due to lack of guidelines for evaluation such as the application of stress modification factor. This study was conducted as an effort to solve this problem through active research.
